Xavien Howard was not good last year. I think he hit that falling off point and will be 31 before start of next season. I'm sure he will garner a decent contract offer from a desperate team, I just hope its not us.
Agreed we need a draft pick and a vet that will establish good to great coverage for the next 3+.

I've watched a bunch of his games and have never seen this. Sorry maybe it's just me but I missed this aspect of his game. He had the 3rd most runs and 2nd most yards rushing of every QB last year. The year before he was only 5 rushes behind Jalen Hurts and had almost 400 yards more than Lamar Jackson. I'm not sure how you can't call him a running QB.
Yeah he definitely has the ability to run but he has become a lot more efficient in his passing game even with the offensive scheme change.

IMO it’s a lazy take that most people label a black QB but not someone like Josh Allen who runs, is inaccurate, and throws crazy picks at times.

Also, I think the definition is vague as some define a running QB as someone with ability to run and others use it as a disparaging remark against a certain QB to your inability to pass.

I actually like this, a lot. Get to LA and sit behind Stafford a year or so, learn from Stafford, and McVay + Scheelhaase and LaFleur.

A fresh start would do wonders. Kid has a lot of talent and could get out of the toxic Jets.

He’s on the last year of his contract.
It would make literally no sense for the Rams unless the Jets waived him.
The only way Wilson belongs on an NFL roster is as a 3rd string. He is incapable of playing right now.

This is my view as well. His cap hit is way, way too big for what he brings. And especially to be a backup.

If Wilson is available as a free agent once his contract is up, however, I'd be fine giving him a shot. He might not be my 1st choice, but it would depend who else is out there. He is still young, so if it works out, you might find yourself a solid backup for many years. You don't get drafted that high without any arm talent, and the Jets are a mess, which also became somewhat toxic for Wilson's confidence and mental game this season. A fresh start might do him a world of good and maybe McVay can revive him. Even with Wilson's middling play to date, he has shown he can win some NFL games in short spurts, and with a meh Jets offence too. That's about all you can ask for in a backup.

Don't give a fuck that he's black. But a player that runs as much as he does from the QB position is a running QB. You can't watch his game and not say he's a running QB. He's a mediocre passer at best but he's a good runner.

I disagree, Fields is from Georgia, IMO, it is a perfect fit for the Falcons as I still believe Fields can be an upper tier signal caller, he just needs to harness some of his running & trust his reads.
And he’d have a lot more weapons to work with in Atlanta.

I’m good with his upside, but still concerned about leadership and maturity.

I’d be fine if McVay wants him as our backup.
Well, he certainly would have inside knowledge with Lafleur who coached him for a year.

For those who start "NFL Rumors", the LaFleur/Wilson/Jets connection is a start (may be all it is) and it makes people say, "oh, yeah, I can see that". I remember one back in 2021, that Aaron Donald was going to retire. And one after 2022 that McVay was going to hang it up. At least those two were based in some facts. Having said that, I imagine McVay can get more out of an offensive player than almost any coach in the league.

Considering how many Higgins style receivers are in this draft, I’m surprised by this.

I guess Boyd will be free to sign elsewhere if he chooses
I'm not surprised at all. They are keeping the band together as much as they can. That's what their QB wants.

You might not but many do, optics keep people thinking a certain way.

Mahomes and Lamar ran quite a bit their first few years. I'd love to have a discussion with anyone now if that's what they are.

His first year with that shit line he had to TBH. I think he'll develop just fine when he gets traded, IF, he gets a offensive HC to help him out. If it's Atlanta he might be in trouble. It'll be interesting to see to see the least.

Mahomes had his career high in rushing attempts this past season. His 2 lowest rushing attempts was his first 2 seasons.
Aaron Rodgers ran a lot when he first started, so did Steve Young.. Nothing to do with color.
Lamar is still more of a threat with his legs than his arm.
Fields isnt a good passer. Sure he has a cannon when he lets it rip, but I dont know if he cant read defenses or is just too slow to process. Wont be the last guy with all the talent in the world but doesnt have what's between the ears to make it big.
Mariota, Z Wilson, Wentz etc and personally, I'm thinking Trevor Lawrence doest have it either

If the most effective part of a QB's game is running the ball then chances are pretty good he's a running QB. Apparently you think that's an insult it's not meant to be. Jackson also IMO is a running QB. I happen to think he's far ahead of Fields as a thrower but then I don't think Fields is a very good thrower. I'd not want my team to trade for him. I've said in the past though if he were cut I'd like to sign him but I doubt that ever happens. I think he needs to be taught to be a better thrower but he never got that in Chicago. I would like to see what McVay and before he left Robinson could have done with him. Not sure though if I were a Falcons fan I'd want to trade for him.
