While stationed at Edwards, AFB, I worked part time at a stereo store called TriStar Stereo in Lancaster, CA. I did warranty repair work on all the stereo equipment. One of the Manufacturers was JBL and because I was one of their "employees" I was able to purchase their speakers at only 55% of retail. In addition to that perk JBL allowed me to buy a set of their 4315B studio monitors that they normally only sold to studios. I'm still enjoying the incredible sound they produce, although the woofers have understandably lost some of their tightness due to a slight deterioration of the materials. Unlike all the Japanese speakers (and most other manufacturers) their studio monitors produced an extremely flat sound with no emphasis on any of the frequencies. Every record I played on my Conrad Johnson turntable sounded exactly like the group intended. I had to set up a small anechoic chamber in a tiny bedroom using special wall tiles, furnishings and my DBX Dual Graphic Equalizer. There was only room for my stereo equipment, my speakers, two bean bag chairs and me plus either my wife or a friend. Heaven.

I know, pretty geeky eh?

I'm glad you decided to up the stakes with 11-20 PT. (y) You and I are probably two of the few who are familiar with the Tubes. :)

JBL speakers are the bomb.

Lol, I forgot about owning bean bag chairs. I spent many nights passed out in those things. Might explain my back problems today.

Yeah, pairing up Stevie Winwood with Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker was a brilliant idea. Too bad they only came up with one mediocre album.

Yeah, I love me some Traffic. Learned to hate "Mr. Fantasy" due to having to play it so many times at gigs. It's three chords repeated over and over again. Come to think of it, much of blues and rock is exactly like that but that song drove me nuts.

"Heaven Is in Your Mind," "Coloured Rain," "Pearly Queen," "Pearly Queen," "Feelin' Alright," "Freedom Rider," "John Barleycorn Must Die," "The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys." Put that on an album with "40,000 Headmen" and you got yourself a greatest hits collection.

On Blind Faith - they did come up with one great lyric - "And I'm tired and I'm wasted and I can't find my way home."

thirteen28 with something that requires closer listening:
I wish I could find the live version of this in a single video. Two will have to do for now:
Great stuff thirteen! I'll have to listen to this stuff again later tonight when I'm in a better "mood". (y)

Prime Time feeling burned out:
Yeah, I love me some Traffic.
The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys is one of my favorite albums when I want to get really laid back. Steve Widwood told a story about someone coming up to him and saying something like: You're that guy who plays that slow stuff aren't you? Shortly after he came out with this:

Taught that guy a lesson eh?

Good song R&G! I'd love for you to post some of your great local bands that haven't made it across the pond. Probably some great stuff available. (y) :)

Some of my all time favourite local bands, you've probably heard of some of them, they're all pretty big:

(pretty much the same band as above, one of the above committed suicide, and was replaced forming this band)

I've never been "enhanced" listening to Night by Gazpacho, but I'm sure it's awesome. That album requires uninterrupted listening fro start to finish.

That's why I had to listen to it again so I could catch what I missed the first time. (y)

Favorite Albums - #21-25

#21 - Takin' It To The Streets - The Doobie Brothers

Although they were a local band I never cared much for them until Michael McDonald joined. Unfortunately only this album got my attention.

Favorites: "It Keeps You Runnin,'" "Takin' It To the Streets," "For Someone Special."

#22 - Born To Run - Bruce Springsteen

Springsteen produced this album along with John Landau who was a music critic. The song 'Born To Run' made it legendary but there are other good tunes on here as well. Along with his excellent band and his passionate singing style, this one is a classic.

Favorites: "Thunder Road," "Born To Run," "She's The One," "Jungleland."

#23 - Pretenders - The Pretenders

This album came along while I was in the early stages of figuring out how to live life one day at a time without drugs and alcohol. I was just getting ready to turn 30 and had a girl friend from Boston who was 19. Yeah, I know, wth was I thinking. She turned me on to this band and played this record all the time.

Chrissie Hynde came from Ohio and since everyone there ignored her she ventured over to England, met Ray Davies of the Kinks and the rest is history.

Favorites: "Precious," "Brass In Pocket," "Stop Your Sobbing," "Private Life," "Kid."

#24 - Future Games - Fleetwood Mac

After the loss of guitarist Peter Green the Mac hired Christine McVie on keyboards and American guitarist Bob Welch and moved towards a more pop oriented sound.

Favorites: "Woman of 1000 Years" "Sands of Time," "Sometimes," "Show Me a Smile."

#25 - Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd - Lynyrd Skynyrd

This is their debut album and what a way to begin a career. Produced by Al Kooper who played organ on Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" and pops up on an extraordinary amount of hit songs over the years, this album is a must for anyone who loves kick-ass rock and roll.

Kooper has said that this was the most well organized, rehearsed band he's ever worked with. Every guitar solo was planned out ahead of time and played note for note. Kooper played mellotron on "Free Bird."

Favorites: "Free Bird," "I Ain't The One," "Tuesday's Gone," "Simple Man."
