Totally agree with you on movies, and now video games too. WTF.

I totally flipped out over the Dragon’s Lair game, but only had the chance to play it a dozen times or so. The game never seemed to be around at the local mall—only when I’d go on vacation somewhere would I see it. A buddy of mine and I got a chance to watch a guy get all the way to the Dragons Lair at the end, and we thought he was a video game Demigod.

Just watched the whole damn video you posted... takes me back!
Ha. Just because we're on opposite ends of the political spectrum, doesn't mean we have to be mortal enemies. I have quite a few liberal friends and we have some decent conversations. They're always wrong, but that's okay. lol.

Our local mall had Dragon's Lair, but there was always a stack of quarters on it from people who had next. You had to get there when they just opened up in the morning to get any decent time on it, so that's what I did. I would practice all morning, day after day (summer break) until I had every move memorized. The black knight checkered floor thing was the most difficult to memorize and pass, but once I did - it was gravy. Totally frustrating game though, because there are about a thousand ways to die if your timing was off. But once I had it down, I would go at night and do a play-thru without dying, and like you said ... I felt like a Demigod. "Holy shit dude! How'd you do that!" Chicks would whip their tops off and throw themselves on me... it was awesome. Except for that last part, which was just how it played out in my head as I rode my bike to the mall.

I remember when I was a kid in the late 80's and early 90's the cool thing to do was go to Skate-a-Way. Everyone skated. You would also hit the arcade there and the suspect food court.

I was addicted to two machines. My mom would give me $10 every time. I would get my pretzel with cheese and the rest went to these two.

T2 was my main game. Also played a TMNT game. Cruisin USA I used to play at the local bowling alley. My step dad was on a bowling league every Monday night and I would get a cheeseburger and money for the arcade. Money went to racing cars and air hockey.

Two that I can remember from when I was younger. Daytona USA and Virtua Striker. I was superb at both obviously.

For me it was GORF, I would win a banana split for the weekly high score every week at the ice cream parlor near my home. Defender was another favorite of mine but I wasnt real good at that one.
Damn, son. I thought I was the only one who had an ice cream shop that did that. I used to win 2 chocolate malts a week after posting the high scores on Zaxxon and Popeye. It was either a sundae or a malt (same price), and the lady who made the malts made them like nobody else has before or since.

I was always partial to Donkey Kong III because it was basically like playing Galaga (was/am a big fan of the shooters).
