This probably won't interest a lot of people , but I could sit at look at these photos all day long , I'm such a huge History buff , and one of the era's that interest me the most was the 1930's , the great depression , prohibition , the great dust bowl , gangsters and bank robbers , Bonnie & Clyde , Al Capone , etc ,,

And now Yale University has released 170,000 photos from that era , They have the photos broken down on a interactive map of the U.S. so you can find photos from your area , pretty cool

LOVE this kind of history.

I'm more a civil war, WW2 guy, but love to look back and think about what they were going through.

I'm almost sad I won't be seen by future generations in black and white stills. So much more interesting than today and they had way better style.

I for one find it fascinating, it's a very interesting period of history to study. Thanks for posting.
 
It's a interactive map , all the photo's are broken down by county , you have to click on a certain county to see all the photos that were taken in that county

Just tried it on my phone , it works , you just have to zoom in on a specific county , then click on that county

Ken Burns and PBS has a pretty good documentary on prohibition so if anyone has a couple of hours to kill , it's well worth checking out

 
I'm more interested in the coastal cities. Farms have looked like farms for ever.

but I would love to walk down a street in 1935.

check out a football game knowing the team that lost was because they took a dive for money.

see all the stupid industrial inventions.

Hard to tell. It wasn't a big deal for workers to have a couple at work. Even back in the 80s, I was allowed to have two beers at lunch when I was in the USAF.
 
Does it say what year the photo was taken , prohibition ran from 1920 - 1933

But it's probably just some of Granny's rheumatism medicine

that one along with others in the series are from 1939

I went looking for photos of my grandfather in that area..no luck yet
 
This is the one closet to where I live ,

Two-room home of Clifford Blum farm, one hundred thirty acres. Rents farm from active farmer. Crop share lease, half corn, two-fifths small grains. Owner intends to add on to house next year. Buildings are kept up. , 1936

I'm guessing Clifford Blum was pretty young when this photo was taken , when I grew up in the late 70's , early 80's , Clifford Blum had retired and lived here in town and owned a pretty good size taxidermy shop along the highway , where you could also buy all your fishing hunting supplies , we used to go in there all the time as kids , either just to look at all the stuffed animals our to buy all our BB's , ;)
