Colin Kaepernick never had a chance. After Rams linebacker Mark Barron hit him in the chest during the seventh sack in the game in the second quarter, Kaepernick is out for a significant amount of time with broken ribs. Backup Blaine Gabbert didn't fare any better as the Rams' front four pressured him into another seven sacks and four interceptions. Both San Fransico quarterbacks finished with a combined seven interceptions, including a pick six by Lamarcus Joyner, as the Rams rolled to a 55-0 shutout. Rookie phenom Todd Gurley rushed for 210 yards and three touchdowns, Tavon Austin added a punt return for a touchdown along with another touchdown on the ground, while underrated Cory Harkey picked up a touchdown through the air. Aaron Donald finished with a career high three and a half sacks, Robert Quinn chipped in another three and a half, while big Michael Brockers had two sacks. Eugene Sims, William Hayes, and Ethan Westbrooks each picked up a sack, along with Barron and T.J. McDonald. Janoris Jenkins had two picks, Trumaine Johnson, McDonald, Joyner, Barron, and James Laurinaitis all had interceptions.
