yeah, the stats tell a story of that season for sure. The QB's combined for almost 700 drop backs, and there were many games he only got a handful of carries because they gave up so many points.Look at his stats for 95.
Lowest yardage of his career except for his final year.
Then he goes to Pittsburgh and gets come back player of the year award.
I wasn't in the coaches meetings there or anything but that was the perception by several people around the league.
And to me personally, it didn't look like he was playing very hard compared to his two previous seasons where he won Rookie of the Year, etc.
First 4 games of season, when the D only gave up 16 PPG, he was averaging 17 yards a carry (including game 1 where he got banged up and only carried 7 times)
Conversely, in his last 6 games he only avg 6 carry a game, while the D gave up 36 ypg and the qb's were dropping back 50+ times per
I watched every game that year in a sports bar, and while he looked salty because they got crushed a lot, I dont recall him ever dogging it. The way I saw it, Brooks just wanted to throw it all over the joint and Bettis wasnt his kind of back
