Cam Akers was born after the Rams won the Super Bowl.

This guy is real friggin young, he can develop into something special I think, especially looking at what he did in college without much help.

That made me feel really old. Thanks
I did a quick check and think Akers was born just before the start of the Rams’ 1999 Championship season. Still makes me feel old. Again, thanks.

Oh shit, I thought I saw he was born 2000, but you're right 1999... So he was born right before the first championship run.

Sounds like he's the perfect guy to have for our second run then.

The loser of this pick is clearly Johnny Hekker. Akers is going to take his emergency QB duty.
Yet again .. .another "wrinkle" that can be added to the play book!!(y) And if Ernest Edwards some how makes the team .. he can throw TD's of jet sweeps too!! :zany::explode:

We ran TG into the ground .. and have paid the price in doing so. Having multiple guys that are talented and that you can count on to be able to put in at anytime is a great thing. Just like we did with the WR group. And now the TE group as well. If we all reflect back a bit...what happened towards the end of 2018 and even more so in 2019? My answer (other than injuries) was the fact that teams started to figure us out. It was even confirmed at the end of 2018 when opposing players acknowledged that the Rams offense didn't do anything that they were not expecting. then in 2019 we have the injuries and it was even more so. I don't know how many times i heard the phrase from the guys calling the games "they are basically running the same 5 plays over and over". And we were. And we got stuck on personnel groupings that almost gave away any chances of surprise element. TG got a little bit gimpy. Reports that DH also got nicked up early. Cooks got a bit "cooked" by concussions. the OL had to use very young guys with not much continuity and ... there ya have it. Not enough talent, continuity, trust to change things up and get creative.
Agreed and i've been banging on this the entire offseason like a broken record. I think(hope) the Rams know it and the primary reason they didn't press the panic button in terms of rehauling the OLine is because even if you've got 5 all pros up front, they will look like shit when your scheme is compromised. DC's are too good. McV needs to evolve.

Couple all that ^ with a gimpy TG and it was disastrous.

.

to be honest i'm not sure why people were freaking out after he was picked first by the rams. maybe it's because i like reading ff forums about the players coming out of college and akers was always in their top 5 rbs this year.

Here is what I find is stupid. Rams get criticized for drafting Akers as RB is not perceived as biggest need. Meanwhile Ravens (the best running team in the NFL) get and A for drafting Dobbins three spots later. And Ravens have serious secondary issues. Makes no sense.

I see he wears #3 in college the numbers most similar to that in the NFL are #33 and #30. It will be weird AF seeing #30 out there and it not being TG.

A lot of people comparing him to Faulk and I don’t see it. Faulk is THE complete back. The only one in the current era deserving to be in the same conversation as him is CM22.

This kid is more Shady McCoy with a little more of a mean streak...Maybe a little Ray Rice (on the field). Either way, he’s a stud and is a fit.
I see some Thurman Thomas

I see Leveon Bell. He is very patient. Presses the hole. Strikes the crease if it is there or jump cuts to another hole. Smart runner.

Maybe Akers throwing to Hekker.
We sure could have used him in the last SB. 3rd and 2 ,send Goff to the sideline and hike the ball directly to Cam under center as a trick play. How do you defend? Nice option now if we want to open things up.

Lots of options with this kid - pro ready, former QB, etc. etc.

I've said I love the player but we coulda picked him up later; however, good point about how the Ravens got Dobbins a few picks after us.... who's to say THEY weren't coveting Akers?? Maybe Dobbins was their #2 back as well??

I think this will be a great draft for us. Picking high-competence players who work hard to excel at their craft at their respective positions vs. drafting for "needs" will pay off I believe.... and as we keep piling up guys like that, we'll see depth at every position -- INCLUDING the OL.

I think our first two picks are going to be home runs, the way a lot of people were talking about them being underrated guys before the draft, paired up with McVay they're going to do good things.

I think we drafted some high character guys that will mesh well in a McVay system, both in terms of talent and in terms of personality. Lots of smiles watching videos from these guys.

If I am not mistaken this guy is a former High School Quarterback. Mcvay seems to really like guys that have formerly played the QB position.
