And Big Rob was healthy not coming off a season long injury like this guy. Edwards will do just fine IMO, might be a PS guy because we'll carry 8 on the 53 man with one being inactive weekly.

I would not gauge OL'ers heavy by their bench numbers. When your chest & shoulders are wide as a door & your arms are as long as a B-52 wing span ......the distance that a wide upper chest & extra long armed person has two big negatives to overcome in benching when going up against players like Greg Gaines.

The distance the bar will have to travel from start to finish is considerably more & much different than let's say a RB who is less wide @ the shoulders & short-armed. However, the long leverage that can be utilized by these long-armed & wide broad top shoulder players from the OT position is the key to a successful block. I do not put much merit on how much an OT prospect can bench.

He hurt his shoulder, that will put any lifting on the shelf and it takes some time to get back into it.
Edwards looks like OL #8, behind Demby & Evans, ahead of Williams & Neary. Should settle in as the backup on the right side. Expect him to be on the 53, not active on gameday unless an injury occurs.

Edwards is about potential. The injury probably lower his draft status. He has the size to get stronger and gain some weight. Seems like a good pick late in the draft.

The Rams Had a great need for a good Right Tackle prospect to back up starter Rob Havenstein. Recently the Rams released 4 yr veteran back up RT Kyle Murphy. Leaving just WWC Darrell Williams as the only reserve OT on the roster once Noteboom moved to starting LG.

Last years 6th rd pick Jamil Demby was drafted as an LT but early in TC his rookie season Kromer moved the 335 lb OL'er inside to both interior OG posts. At that time Rams had Saffold & Brown as starters with Brian Allen, Austin Blythe, Joe Noteboom, Aaron Neary & others as reserve OG's. The OG room was crowded. The OT reserve room was empty.

Now both our 2018 initial starting OG's have departed to bigger greener $$$ fields/teams. How these two 2019 OG posts come out this season might be a big surprise to everyone. Snead as usual has done a great job!:bow:

P.S. Demby, by 2018 season's end lost a good amount of that extra sized tire he had around his mid section. I would think we will see a much different Jamil in TC & pre season.

Highly doubt that Blythe relinquishes his right guard spot to either Evans or Edwards. I don't care how badly Blythe played in the Super Bowl; he was excellent on the season and deserves the benefit of the doubt when it comes to his starting role.

I do think that Demby, Evans, and Edwards fight for two of the guard positions after the 2020 offseason (Noteboom sliding over to Whit's spot, Blythe not being re-signed), but Blythe is the man right now. And if he's ineffective, I think Demby gets first crack at the spot.

I'm sorry I disagree wholeheartedly about Blythe. With him being a turnstile at the SB I won't look at him any other way. At times last season he got overpowered as well, guy isn't doo doo but he isn't great either.

I can hear Demby being the front runner but Edwards has that upbringing at OL U. I could see him asserting himself the first 4th of the season over Blythe and Demby. Also, having Havenstein being a teammate and from OL U he'll take Edwards under his wing.

I'm sorry I disagree wholeheartedly about Blythe. With him being a turnstile at the SB I won't look at him any other way. At times last season he got overpowered as well, guy isn't doo doo but he isn't great either.

Edwards is still raw, had a severe shoulder injury, and played worse against amateurs than Blythe played against professionals. I don't care that Edwards came from Wisconsin; Blythe is from Iowa, who puts up just as many good offensive lineman as Wisconsin.

If Blythe struggles, it'll be Demby who replaces him, not Evans or Edwards. I have nothing against Edwards; I think he was a good pick in the fifth round. But he's clearly not ready to play in the NFL, if you've watched enough of his tape from last year.
