Thursday night was the last opportunity for players to stand out and make a final push for the 53-man roster. Quite a few helped themselves with strong performances, while there weren’t any especially bad showings against the Texans.
The Rams have some difficult decisions to make in terms of final cuts, and the game against Houston didn’t do anything to make those calls easier. Here are our winners and losers from the 22-10 win.

Winners
QB John Wolford
There’s something about Wolford that makes him an interesting player. He has a compact delivery, good mobility and a strong arm, displaying great accuracy to all levels of the field. If not for two drops, his numbers would look even better.
As it is, he threw two touchdown passes, both of which were highlight-reel plays by the young quarterback.

Wolford showed this preseason that he deserves another shot in the NFL and should be signed to the Rams’ practice squad if/when he’s waived.

RB Justin Davis
Davis certainly made a strong final impression against the Texans, rushing for 78 yards and a touchdown on only 16 carries. He ran with power along the goal line and was shifty finding holes behind his blockers.
His biggest run was a 28-yarder, and while he did drop a pass over the middle, it was his best performance of the preseason.

WR KhaDarel Hodge
Hodge probably won’t make the team, but he showed once again he deserves to be on an NFL roster – or at the very least, on the practice squad. He caught five passes on five targets for 76 yards, consistently winning against one-on-one coverage.
Cutting Hodge is going to be tough, but when the Rams do, they have to hope no one claims him off waivers so they can sneak him onto the practice squad.

OLB Ogbonnia Okoronkwo
Okoronkwo has risen faster than just about every player on the roster this preseason. He had two more sacks and two tackles for loss on Thursday night, forcing a fumble on his first sack. He’s in no danger of being cut despite it seeming that way just a few short weeks ago.
Okoronkwo still has plenty of room to grow, but he’s explosive off the line, has a refined pass-rush repertoire for a second-year player and even though he’s undersized, he doesn’t get swallowed by blocks in the running game.

DL Boogie Roberts
Roberts flashed a few times on Thursday night, including a sack late in the fourth quarter. He really showed up as a run defender, which is important for a player at his position. He won’t most likely won’t be on the Week 1 roster, but given the Rams’ lack of depth on the defensive line, he could be a practice squad call-up at some point if the Rams sign him to the 10-man group.

LB Dakota Allen
Allen was all over the field against Houston, showing why he deserves to make the regular-season roster. He plays with outstanding physicality, always bringing the hammer on his tackles. He goes full speed from whistle to whistle, which is something Sean McVay loves to see.
Allen finished with five tackles in the game and filled holes nicely against the run. That’s something the Rams need from their strongside linebacker, which will likely be Bryce Hager to begin the year. Allen could eventually become a starter, though.

LB Ketner Kupp
Kupp led the Rams with nine tackles and also had an interception called back due to a penalty, but that doesn’t take away from his performance in this one. Kupp is a candidate for the practice squad, especially after putting together a nice showing in the final preseason game.

Losers
Brandon Allen

Allen’s numbers weren’t bad (12-for-17, 120 yards), but he did have two interceptions on poorly thrown balls. His first was a terrible attempt at a check down, overthrowing Austin Proehl over the middle as it was tipped into the hands of the defender.

Allen doesn’t have a chance to make the 53-man roster, and at this point, he probably won’t be signed to the practice squad, either.

CB David Long Jr.
It wasn’t a terribly bad night for Long, but he was in coverage on two third-down completions, both of which went for first downs. Both plays came with him covering the slot, which is certainly not his forte.

He did look good in coverage a few other times, but those two plays stood out because of the situation.

Sums it up nicely.
Big dilemma in trimming down RB and WR positions.
Davis made the decision hard if we are to keep only 4 backs.

I am done with the preseason stud Justin Davis. Never seen anything useful in the reg season, always banged up.
Brown offers us a solid vet, Kelly and Henderson have more upside.

No way I let Nsimba "The Flyin King" Webster get away.
I would start Dakota Allen in Kisers place.
I would trade Bortles for a good interior o-lineman and go with the young Wolf. If we lose Goff or any o-line we are fucked any way sooo.....
Mr. Snead, make it so

Oko showed really well.
2 tackles, a hold call drawn and a forced fumble in the early going.
Having another guy step up from the LB Corp as a pass rusher would be huge for this defense.
Really frees up a lot of stuff.
Am very interested to see if Oko can translate his preseason play into the reg season vs starters and with limited snaps.

A few weeks ago I thought for sure he was going to be a cut casualty because of the injuries. But he really impressed me when he finally got on the field. He was a 5th round pick but he has earlier round talent. I believe some draft sites had him going in the second round.

Ya I heard his name a lot as a possible early round 2 pick last year. Was shocked he fell so far & we got him in the 5th. I think that might light a fire in him to get after it & prove he was deserving of an earlier pick (which it looks like now that he was).
I've been anxious to see him on the field, and it's hard to tell from highlights but I can tell he bends the edge & gets low & makes it really tough for the RT to contain him. Something I haven't really seen with Samson E., and something I haven't seen a Ram OLB do since Quinn.

I'm thinking when its all said and done, Edwards might end up a better player than Evans.

There was a play he was bending around the LT and slipped to one knee. He was able to regain his balance and stand up while still being engaged by the LT. He has impressive functional power. That club move on the RT was nasty. He knows how to use his hands. Thinking he can be part of the pass rush rotation and contribute 3-5 sacks this year.

Winners
UDFA- OG/OC Vitas Hrynkiewicz- demonstrated solid pass blocking & run blocking @ OG.

ER- UDFA rookie Landis Durham has great size & speed could easily play DE in place of John Franklin-Myers or Morgan Fox.....neither JFM or Fox have done anything of substance this preseason but Durham has!

Loosers
*#3rd round selection CB David Long showed nothing. The Rams will cut at least two much better playing corners than rookie Long today & tomorrow. He has not earned a position on this team.

*All three of the rookie TE's.

DL- John Franklin-Myers- took several step backwards from his rookie season

Los Angeles Rams preseason week four: Stock up, stock down

The offensive trio of John Wolford, Nsimba Webster, and KhaDarel Hodge continue to contribute. Could any make the roster?

Los Angeles Rams v Houston Texans

Preseason week four has officially ended, wrapping up the “pretend” games and shifting our focus to the kickoff of the 2019 NFL season. The Los Angeles Rams finished the preseason with a 2-2 record as they defeated the Houston Texans 22-10 on Thursday night.
Let’s have a look at the players who trended upwards, as well as their counterparts who’re headed in the wrong direction. Note: Lots of players were held out of this contest.

Stock Down

QB Brandon Allen
In what has seemingly become a theme this preseason, Brandon Allen put forth quite an awful performance. Allen went 12/17 for 120 yards passing and two interceptions, sailing multiple passes once again. There was no point this preseason where Allen played like he deserved a roster spot, and he surely wont get one over John Wolford (whether that’s on the 53 or practice squad).

Stock Up

QB John Wolford
On the opposite end of the spectrum, John Wolford played lights out once again as he went 8/15 for 105 passing yards and two touchdowns. Wolford looked calm, cool, and collected all game once again. His composure and ability to use his mobility/make throws on the run is highly impressive. Not only that, but Wolford maneuvered within the pocket marvelously on Thursday night. Wolford has an outside shot of sticking on the 53-man roster, though it’s more likely the Rams try to stash him on the practice squad.
WR KhaDarel Hodge
KhaDarel Hodge was the best skill player on the team as he reeled in all five of his targets for 76 receiving yards. Hodge stands out every preseason game as a playmaking receiver ready to be rostered on the 53-man active roster. Whether or not he makes it is question. Hodge has 100% earned the opportunity to be rostered though, as he’s done nothing but impress rep after rep this preseason.

WR Nsimba Webster
Like Hodge, Nsimba Webster has separated himself as an undrafted free agent receiver this year. Webster does most of his work in the short-to-intermediate part of the field, showing great awareness by sitting between zones, strong hands that pluck the ball with ease, and the toughness to head upfield for extra yardage. Webster had a fantastic catch in the right corner of the endzone from Wolford. Webster was targeted six times, managing to bring in four of those balls for 38 yards and a touchdown.
RB Justin Davis
Justin Davis didn’t get a ton of run this preseason, though he’s always been a productive zone scheme runner for the Rams, with that trend continuing on Thursday night as Davis toted the rock 16 times for 78 yards and one touchdown. Davis’ skillset fits the offense well, and though he wont be a factor in the offense during the regular season, he could develop on the practice squad.
EDGE Ogbonnia Okoronkwo
Ogbo continued his string of strong performances with a six-tackle, two-sack, and two tackles-for-loss contest. Ogbo looked potent off the edge once again. The only nitpick is Ogbo has a lot of rushes that are stale and end up with him losing his balance/ending up on the turf, though he produces regardless.

You had me agreeing until this line lol. McVay wants that playoff experience in his backup just in case.

Wolfy is more a question of do they think he can be a primary backup. Would you be able to win games with him in there? He won the QB3 job clearly but that doesn't mean they see him as a long-term answer. Put him in there with the 1s for five or six games and you'll know for sure (i.e. we don't know right now) but with Bortles we do know he can win games and that is very valuable.

Yeah I'm not sure I was serious but he is the most tradeable piece and I want another lineman more than I want a so-so QB and a weak line.

You Lol'd ... did you really? You maybe pushed air out of your nose but I doubt you laughed out loud.
Maybe you did, maybe you sit around on the internet just laughing out loud like a madman at everything....

SOME people use "lol" as just a cocky way to be rude when disagreeing with someone online who can't kick your ass for it.
That's how I use it anyway, lol.

 Farr Be It insider news: Mundt makes the team. Grampa has Sean’s ear. Unless one of the rooks outplayed him bad, it was his spot to lose.

None of the rookie TE's outplayed the water-bottle-boy/girl this preseason. Mundt won the 3rd TE spot mostly by default.

Mundt could be one of the players that the Rams might use to wiggle the initial 53 roster to keep sneak players off & on with. Mundt will not generate much interest in the NFL if he were to be released. Rams could later in the week add him back to the 53 MR without too much gamble.
