I’ll just agree to disagree.

Rock’s been talking shit about Jada for a long ass time and this was the last straw. I guess people don’t know how hard Will has worked to stop the piling on for years…

I’m sure Will Smith will deal with any consequences, but no way the dude who produced “Good Hair” didn’t understand the ramifications of talking about Jada’s hair situation in front of her husband (their relationship isn’t anyone’s business) in front of a global audience.

Yep their relationship is no one else’s business outside of the millions who watched the shows, specials, and clips about their relationship. :laugh1::laugh3:

Come on man, Jada’s well known fetish for having singers dicks in and around her mouth is legendary, and even self admitted.

Also, I wanna say….I think it was staged. That looked like some WWF shit. @Angry Ram break it down

The key is selling the slap. If Chris Rock would've fallen back more, made his head turn, or even a snap of his body. Observe:

Now this one is real. I didn't see Will pull his slap. Chris Rock stumbled back a bit, but not overly back.

Also the way Will looked walking back. He just looked like a mix of being satisfied and "oh shit what did I do".

We’ve all been there… maybe we quit a job instead of slapping someone or maybe we moved some furniture when someone went too far, but all this pearl clutching and whatnot is amusing to me. Normally I’m on the other side of these issues… it’s kinda weird, to be honest.
No shit Mack. Very un-you like, but in this case you're 100% wrong. Plus, you make a lot of assumptions re Rock and his motives.
Smith could have made his point from his chair. Total chicken shit move on his part - Rock was clearly the adult in the room.

I fully expected to be alone on this.

This wasn’t the Apollo, this was the Oscars and Chris got personal. He’s been doing it for a minute. And that whole “talk shit on page one, apology on page 47 under the want ads” doesn’t cut it.

It’s done, but I get it. I get why Will did it and I also get and appreciate why Chris didn’t press charges.

By the way, I also get why folks think it was fake since now that “Only Headliners” tour that’s 5 straight days in venues around north Jersey/NYC is coming up, that ticket is 10x the must see that it was before…

Well now all the guys know. You can screw Jada. Just don't say anything about her hair.

I’m sure Will Smith will deal with any consequences, but no way the dude who produced “Good Hair” didn’t understand the ramifications of talking about Jada’s hair situation in front of her husband (their relationship isn’t anyone’s business) in front of a global audience. Chris Rock’s from Brooklyn. He had to know…

Let’s put this in football terms. Jim Everett dumped Jim Rome on his ass for nothing more than calling him “Chris” and most Rams fans cheered and backed Everett. I know I sure as hell did. Rome was talking that shit to his face and found out.

We’ve all been there… maybe we quit a job instead of slapping someone or maybe we moved some furniture when someone went too far, but all this pearl clutching and whatnot is amusing to me. Normally I’m on the other side of these issues… it’s kinda weird, to be honest.

Ultimately, it was a minor interaction that will be settled at some point. I fully expect them to have a sit down and hash it out. I’d be surprised if they didn’t.

If only it could just be an Oscar footnote… like how they gave Polanski an Oscar in 2003… 26 years after he was found guilty of child rape and fled the country… seems like a bigger deal to me… Casey Affleck…Woody Allen…Harvey Weinstein…Keven Spacey… and that’s the short list. No Oscars returned, and only Polanski was expelled and that wasn’t until 2018.

I support Jim Everett… take from that what you will.
There’s quite a lot of violence in football and a lot perpetrated by players outside of football as well. Everett should have laughed it off as there’s really no way to win this thing for him. Rome basically dared him to come on and back up his tough talk and he was backed into a corner and Rome was probably hoping for some reaction.
I don’t see a lot of similarities in the Oscar situation, this happens every year. Some comedian goes too far, so you don’t like the jokes? Punch him.
It’s shitty sometimes but athletes and entertainers have to hear stuff no one should have said about them, it’s not right but it’s part of being in the public eye. If you go to a comedy show and don’t like being made fun of, don’t sit in the front row.
Maybe Will had just had it with all the jokes and I get that but you know who doesn’t get lame jokes about them? How bout Denzel? Cuz there’s nothing to joke about, nobody knows what goes on it Denzel’s life. I try to tell my kids don’t live your life on social media and you won’t care so much what is said about you.

And every Oscars has its share of presenters roasting people in the crowd, it's part of the show
Violence is never the answer
Exactly, if the academy wanted to eliminate jokes in bad taste they could easily, but awards shows are dull and ratings are falling so every year some comedian goes at some actor and it gets some buzz. I can’t believe they didn’t tell him to go home and get his head on straight.

In my opinion, some of the criticism of Will Smith in this thread is over the top and carrying things too far (like calling him a POS, etc.)

Did Will Smith make a huge mistake that he regrets? Yes, and he's admitted as much and apologized to Chris Rock.

But when Chris Rock made that joke about Jada's alopecia, Jada was visibly disturbed by it. I guarantee that the alopecia has caused Jada a huge amount of stress and embarrassment and worry, I bet she's cried many tears over having to live with this condition. So yeah, when Will Smith saw his wife get visibly upset over a joke about her medical condition, he snapped and then did something really stupid.

If someone made fun of your wife's medical condition, wouldn't you consider acting pretty harshly ti defend her?

Again, I'm not defending Smith's actions. They were wrong and he's owned up to it. I'm just saying I empathize with his anger when someone says something shitty about his wife that clearly upset her.

Celebrities: listen to and respect my opinions on every subject that I wish to preach about because I’m famous and, therefore, special.

Celebrities when they fuck up: I’m just a regular person with feelings. Feel sympathy for me.

Their lives seem to be an open book as they have shared, some would say overshared, a lot of what some would say is personal. This is just another example, Jada has alopecia which causes her hair to fall out, she decides to embrace it and maybe inspire others by talking openly about it and even shaving her remaining hair on instagram. Part of educating people is going to be dealing with the stupid jokes and if he and Jada had got up and walked out Chris Rock would be the one apologizing today. This kind of macho posturing has landed plenty of dudes in jail defending someone’s honor and probably regretting their actions like Will seems to be today.

I mean the show itself is boring, and the movies that win are also boring with rare exception, i.e., Gladiator.

I'm still amazed Encanto won best animated movie.
