IDK I would give up a 3rd Round for Jimmy Garoppolo and let's not forget he was 6-0 lifetime against the Rams before the NFC Championship game. Teams like the Panthers, Commodes, Broncos & now Buccaneers would be glad to have him. In fact, as many of you roll your eyes I wanted the Rams to draft Jimmy Garoppolo back in 2014 and if they did it might have saved Jeff Fisher IMHO or maybe it would have killed Garoppolo, however, Fisher was thought he was being so cute moving up ahead of the Titans to take Lamarcus Joyner, so glad Jeff Fisher is in the USFL.

Overall, Garoppolo has a quick release and can get very hot and carry a team, he's not elite, he also can get very cold and make a bad play to hurt his team, but not unlike other quarterback. Again, I would take Garoppolo over Bridgewater, Winston and the rest of the cast of castoffs and I guarantee he can take to deep in the playoffs and even a Super Bowl, but he needs to be surrounded by good players again JMHO.
100% agree. That’s the rub of a player like him. A team who hasn’t been in the post season for years or does not want a dry spell will trade for Garoppolo. Your examples are spot on. Pay millions for a QBs who will continue to fall short or catch lightning in a bottle for a chance at post season play. He wins when’s he’s on the field, even without eye catching numbers.

Makes all the sense in the world to me. IMO once his surgery has been completed with reports on its success he’ll get traded.

I think the 69ers would have beaten the Bengals if we hadn't taken them out. So I mean, the guy is a good QB, doesn't make a lot of mistakes, and plays well when he's healthy. That's his only problem really.

60% completion 4 touchdowns 6 interceptions
Those are his career playoff numbers and he was barely above 50% in the NFCCG vs us and vs the Packers in that NFCCG he threw the ball 8 times because he was carried by a 4 TD game from Moesert. I'm not saying he's a bad QB, I'm saying he's just an average QB. Nothing special not bad either but he can't stay healthy. He's played a full season one time in five years as the Niners QB, are you really good if you can only start 45 of 81 games?

He's like a Ryan Tannehill QB. Will do well in a good/great environment, but isnt a franchise maker.
If you have no QB, like Carolina, Denver, Pittsburgh etc, why not trade for him?

Maybe but if they were able to stop the run against them like they did us then the Bengals win

I would put Jimmy G as a decent stopgap QB. I keep changing my mind as I read through this thread. He will cost around $26M this year. If he does well he will command a long-term deal. I don't think he is a QB to build a franchise around. I can see teams trading for him as they have no other alternative at QB. The problem is there aren't enough QBs to build a franchise around. It could be your damned if you do and damned if you don't. I don't see it as a winning move.

Some team will trade for him with I guess a 2nd-3rd pick. Could be a performance deal and not only a playing time deal. Just look at the Colts and Wentz deal. That ended up costing the Colts a first-round pick and likely no Wentz moving forward.

@den do you rate Garoppolo above Goff?
I don’t see it.
would appreciate your opinion.
That’s tough as I have never been a huge Goff supporter, however, I rate them about the same across the board giving Goff a slight edge because of age & durability.

His playoff record is good when his running game and defense could carry him there are a lot of QB's that can do that hell Dilfer won a SB that way. When he's got to win the game with his arm he hasn't been able to, that makes him average even unspectacular.
Yeah you basically have a small group of QBs who can do it at that top level and then a big group of wannabe's who are in various stages of development. Some will never get there. Not sure about Jimmy G but I think he's probably what he's gonna be now.

Honestly the older I get in football fan years the more I go back to the best QB prospects being the ones who are a little cocky maybe even arrogant in some ways. Just seems like in a league where you need to have cajones to throw into the teeth of these defenses and shake off the failures the "how big are your balls" question really factors in to getting to that end stage where you have shit mastered.

I know some desperate team will be dumb enough to give up a second round pick. Chances are that dumb team's pick will be higher in the second round.

Take a close look. The 49ers were generally considered to have a championship roster. They were a quarterback away according to most experts. What does that tell you?

The 49er offense was the perfect setup for a guy like Garoppolo. It relied heavily on the run game and short controlled passes. Jimmy GQ could play that game. They had the personnel for it. Would a team like Denver have that? Ask him to do more is asking for trouble. Ever watch him try and complete the deeper sideline passes? He's usually off target. In our game he had a wide open Aiyuk down the sideline and he threw an uncatchable ball.

Wherever he goes I seriously don't think he'll do well at all. I hear Denver has a good roster and only needs a viable quarterback. If they make that trade I have a feeling it won't work out for them.

I agree on health absolutely, but his playoff record is actually good and granted it was more the defense & running game, but as the saying goes, you are what your record says you are and Garoppolo's playoff record is actually 4-2 and that's alright, when you're rocking & a rolling on a Livingston Saturday Night.
Love the Buffett reference!!

Because "he's a winner".
This is the exact reason why wins should not be a QB stat. I said the same thing a year ago after the Stafford/Goff trade. People were using wins to credit Goff and knock Stafford. The value of a QB should be based solely on talent/merit but the circumstances around them (ie overall team talent and franchise) may affect wins.

Jimmy is an average at best QB in the NFL, to me he's slightly below average. There are some teams though that have horrendous QB situations and he would be an upgrade over what they have. But no way in hell I'd ever give up a high pick for him.

He also makes some really untimely INTs. And it seems like every time he rolls out to his right, he throws it to the other team. Did it against the Cowboys, did it against the Packers and did it against the Rams, though Ramsey dropped it. He's just incredibly bad when rolling out and throwing.
