True, but that may really illustrate that Benny and Mason are really complimentary backs and once we have Gurley that it all comes together.
Oh, and Gurley is a pass catching fiend. That guy catches like he's got stickum. Was watching him during TC and he was more natural than every WR except Bailey.
Not. Kidding.
I dunno that Gurley changes everything from his first snap, but he has that POTENTIAL. I mean, he breaks tackles and he's as fast as Tavon. Literally. Dude's just sick fast. So when they run him on some sweeps, guys may keep up with him in the first quarter, but in the last 2nd? Whole 4th? That's when a big, fast back like Gurley will overwhelm a defense.
If you look at some of the top Gurley plays, they aren't even TDs, they're 18 yard runs where he hits a super small crease, bounces through, breaks like 4 tackles and drags guys for 9 more yards to extend the drive.
Neither Benny nor Mason are ANYTHING like that. They are very nice backs, don't get me wrong, but Gurley has the potential to be one of the truly elite backs in this game.
And I really, really, REALLY don't say things like that unless I mean it and I've seen enough tape that I think there's evidence to support what I'm saying.
This OL will struggle, but if you watched the Green Bay game, that OL wasn't all that great in Pass Pro. Aaron Rodgers sure helped them out a ton as did their running game.
In our case, someone like Gurley can help the young OL out a bit until they gel and get that run blocking down. Foles is pretty dang good in the pocket and with the run game working, things open up pretty nicely. We've seen it. Heck, it doesn't even have to be slammin', just working. That said, once Gurley's really integrated, I expect the run game to finally click.
