Why do YOU think our passing offense is terrible?

I wonder what those two guys would look like in this scheme. Being asked to run deep sideline routes and not much more. Britt is targeted at least 3 times a game but yet isn't asked to run a slant utilizing his size and strength. Say what you want about either Quick or Britt. You use them the same way Palmer uses Fitzgerald and Floyd and I think you might be shocked at the results.
This I just don't get either.
We have these big bodies, yet were not even trying to work the middle of the field.
Our pass protection today, was better then I've seen in a very long time. Yet Foles still held onto the ball to long.
Our passing game needs work. Neither Cigs or Foles is doing a good job at the moment.

You guys have got to be kidding!! This is a GROUND AND POUND OFFENSE! Play good defense and run the ball, this is what Jeff Fisher wants and he's getting EXACTLY that! Foles is not being asked to do too much and that's the point. Take the short passes if you have to, hand the ball off, and setup play action. He's making most of the throws he's supposed to, I don't get what the complaining is about. If you want a top 5 QB fine complain all the way, but he's not being asked to carry the team, he's facilitating the offense. Britt dropped a beauty deep ball (which stinks), Bailey dropped a ball (wow weird saying that), ok it happens you have to play through SOME adversity. Foles missed a few throws, which honestly it's fine, he didn't turn the ball over. I will say tho, he MUST improve on 3rd down... We cannot have the defense bailing the offense out this much, and Foles must take advantage of the 3rd and short passes because honestly... the offense has been TERRIBLE on 3rd down, and a lot of the responsibility falls on him sadly. But for the most part, he's easily doing what he's supposed to: handing the ball off, protecting the ball, and being effective on play action passes. He can make the big play throws, which is nice because we NEED that to take the top off the defense, or have the defense believe we can take the top off the defense.

And now when team's start stacking the box to defend against the run because the RAMS have no passing game to speak of, where does the team go from there?

A good passing game sets up the run.Until the OL, WRs and Foles show some consistency, teams will start defending the run and Gurley will get overused just like SJ39 was.

i can agree with that, but at the same time. It doesnt matter, because i hope we draft people to replace both of them.
And what does that do to help THIS YEAR?

And once again another " let's draft someone" cuz it's guaranteed that a rookie will be better. Oh wait. That seldom is the case.

The pass blocking isn't the issue until Foles had to look for something other than his first option. That Shen he tends to get panicky and usually bales on the pocket.

Again. If this is such a concern then the best way to minimize the negative impact is get the ball out quick. Slants and swing passes. Not five step deep fades or drag routes that force him to hold the ball.

If you're talking about today, alright perhaps. Most of the games this season the man has been under constant pressure. Throws the ball and gets hit immediately, and its been a constant problem. Not good for you QB. Idk the stats or the amount of pressure he's faced, but early on this season I'd argue he might be one of the top QBs in terms of taking hits. Idk, could be wrong. I know he's not playing great football, but I don't find him to be THE problem big picture. We'll see tho, he very well might be. Just glad we got the W today, my weeks been made!

I recall a few quick slants drawn up earlier in the season. I also vividly recall a DB being draped all over Britt's back and tight coverage every time. Nothing there. They seem to have gone away from it since Gurley emerged.
Having said that, i agree the middle of the field needs to be exploited more often.

The problem for me is I'm seeing the same issues 7 games Into the season as I raised throughout training camp. Jittery in the pocket when his first read isn't there. And forced throws into coverage. And an overall lack of accuracy.

He has to shoulder a lot of the blame for th number of hits because he tends to hold the ball too long when the first read isn't there. And often the hits he takes are when he bails on the pocket

Look I'm not trying to say there haven't been issues in the offensive line. But just because a QB takes a hit doesn't automatically mean it's on them OLINE.

I say bring it! I trust Foles off the play action, if there is something he's good at, it's play action. You're not going to hit all your deep passes, but there are times you MUST take advantage. Britt dropped a deep pass today, otherwise it's a solid 30 to 40 yard gain. Also Foles' TD was a play action pass. Although it was short pass and many QBs would make that throw, this is the kind of ability he brings to the table. It's like CoachO said, he'll usually hit his first read and that's critical for play action. We'll see how he does when teams really stack the box to stop the run, but I think Foles will find a way to make a few plays. Might not be a ton like the Seattle game, but it'll be good enough for this offense, ala the ground and pound offense.

Sorry if I'm giving any of you guys a headache. You guys very well may be right, guess I'm pretty passionate about what I've seen. Guess I'm a bit more optimistic when we win, cause I'm in a good mood.

Forsure it doesn't mean its the OL's fault, but that's why I'm putting the blame on everyone on offense (ok besides the Gurley haha) more so then on Foles'. Having 2 rookies on the OL? Feel like that could be a problem, especially since Robinson is still learning how to play LT. Idk man, I feel like the OL in general hasn't helped his image. He's taken a beating most of the season, idk how many can trust this OL. Perhaps its jelling now, idk. We'll see what happens with more time, hopefully he gets better.

We can't try and mimic other teams that have had success against the team we are to play. Cutler has been playing very well the last two games and so has Jeffrey today. We have thrown a few slants with success this season. One to Tavon Austin for a TD against the cards and have not seen that pass thrown again since. I wonder on exactly what and the real goal coach Sherman has with the group we are working with.

We don't know Nick Foles' keys and why he targets one guy over another. Unless we had the coaches film to watch we can't fairly break down Foles on what he is seeing and when and what he is OBVIOUSLY missing. We have such a GREAT "D" and with such depth and the running game I've seen some clips of the coaches tape (from today) and Gurley had some great holes to run through and on some plays he had holes to choose from also. This OL IS GELLING . Will it be in time to make the Playoffs? Next week carries TOO MUCH WEIGHT for my tastes. I think I'm glad we ran Tre' Mason instead of GurleyII in the 4th.

I have a feeling this "D" and Team is gonna climb on GURLEYS' BACK like a pack mule next week . Deep into the game to the end. We need an AWESOME week of planning and Travel as we have Green Bay game to think about as we play this one and face two more tough ones in Baltimore and Cincy. We have some tough QB's yet to play. Can Gurleys success rub off on Britt & Quick? I'll be keyed up for next week for sure. Foles will not have the time he had today to throw. Nick has to have a fast start and quick read and releases unless its a PA pass and he has clear pocket. Can't have any drops.NO INJURIES!!! Cook have an awesome week and redeem this year and your contract:homercrawl::homercrawl::homercrawl:

To me? It's the receivers. When Bradley Marquez has more catches in a game than Stedman Bailey and Kenny Britt combined, you know that there's a problem. Aside from Austin, I don't trust any of them. No, not even Quick. I personally think that he's damaged goods.

Receiver should be the target in next year's draft. One in the first round, at least.

Foles is not the problem. #1 issue is WR. No one that can consistently beat his man and also hold onto the ball. No one that can go up and fight for a ball.

#2 issue is Oline.

I see other QBs able to make use of worse WRs. The WRs aren't doing Foles a ton of favors...but he's not doing them any favors either.

Rodgers holds the ball too long. Takes hits. He sucks.

Is it Nick Foles?
Is it pass protection?
Is it play call?
Is it that our receivers cannot get open very often?

What's your take on this?
1. It's Nick Foles sometimes...but most of the time he's being hurried. This OLine is learning every week and they are getting better.

2. Yes! It's pass protection...but today, I saw Foles get better protection. It's a work in progress.

3. Definitely! The Rams are just flat poor at changing up the play at the LOS. I don't know if they don't trust Foles to audible. The Rams need to really examine this and give Foles more leeway to change the play based on the defense.

4. The Ram WRs are good enough...BUT...the Rams are not plying to the strength of anyone but TA and Cook at this point. at this point. As I watched the game at the Ed today I can't believe how unimaginative the WR routes are. You have big WRs like Britt and Quick...(I keep saying it...and I'll continue to keep saying it). They don't throw any hitch routes, or quick slants. or quick outs where these guys can catch the ball and make a play with their size. Doing so would enable them to use their size breaking tackles and getting YAC.

The Niners were playing off Quick and Britt all game but the Rams threw only one "quick out" pass that went to Quick. The rest of the time they were running mid to deep routes or blocking. When it comes to Bailey they just flat don't use his talent properly. Bailey is probably the best route runner of all the WRs, but for some reason they can't incorporate him properly.

The Seattle game really gave me some hope at the passing game...but somewhere along the line it seems the passing attack changed. Foles threw for 297 against Seattle and the Rams kept them off balance because they were more diversified with the pass attack. Since then..."lackluster" is the perfect word.

The need to get to work on this and make it better!

You're avoiding the point completely. We don't know what kind of "talent" they have because they aren't being put in the position to utilize that talent.

Again. Tell me how good Fitzgerald would be of asked to run the same routes as Britt is being asked to run and ONLY those routes.

My guess...still pretty darn good.

The Ol's pass protection is affecting the playcalling, limiting what Cigs can call in the passing game. The only time Foles gets time is on play action. When teams know he has to throw, Cigs knows it has to be a quick drop and get rid of it. So that limits the playbook, but hopefully they get better and they can open the playbook a bit more.

However, I will also add that for the passing game to be playoff caliber, Quick has to begin resemble his play from last year because Britt looks lost or disinterested or just done.

I'd argue he's playing around the 16 - 20 range. Not impressive, but he's doing what he's supposed to be doing, running Jeff Fisher style football! I think he'll improve with time, then again I'm usually optimistic about this kind of stuff.
hmm...not sure about some of these...

Dude, he's like in the bottom 5.....and no other reason to explain it but he's been awful....

Atlanta look like playoff teams
Not anymore....but damn that offense is playoff-ready....I sure like the way Matty Ice feeds his beasts....New OC knows where his bread is buttered.....

When Bradley Marquez has more catches in a game than Stedman Bailey and Kenny Britt combined, you know that there's a problem.
Exactly Mento....and who's fault is that? Are you trying to imply that Bradley is better than Britt or Sted?

Everyone is trying to defend the obvious...A bunch of NFL watchers are trying to tell you what is painfully apparent...There is a concern...The Washington game was the first clue...There is no way this team loses to GB the way the defense was turning the ball over....The play against bottom feeder defenses has left no doubt in MY mind.....Yeah, coaches draw up the script...QB's can change it...We just went through the Bradford years....And Sam had his own demons...This is the best team we've had since 2004....easily....There is ONE position holding us back...It will surface in big games...

28. Nick Foles: The trade of Foles for Bradford has turned out to be a swapping of bottom-five quarterbacks. The only reason the Rams are really benefiting from having Foles isn't because he replaced Bradford, but because he replaced Austin Davis. Any of the guys below Foles on this list are better than Davis and Shaun Hill.
And I'm just going off my eyeballs....these just confirm what my eyeballs are seeing....week after week.....And my last impression.....Davis couldn't have been worse than this....

I will say, he played better yesterday...but with the amount of protection, he should have played much better.

I would be very curious to know what the Rams coaches think right about their QB play right now.

Weinke, Fisher, Cigs - surely they are seeing what we are seeing.

The thing is - the passing game doesn't have to be great - it has to be competent. Don't turn it over, don't take big sacks. And having Gurley back there is the best gift a QB could ever ask for. Play action passes should be child's play in this O.

They may do well just to re-simplify the entire offense. Forget tricking people - just don't trick yourselves. You are god enough to run right over their asses - just go do that.
