During his first stint with the Rams IMO there was more lowlights than highlights. Most people were glad to see him go.

Why was he successful this go around?

His old body was much fresher imo

I think it was more so he wasn't out in coverage is much. IIRC he got exposed in coverage, and this time around it seemed like he played downhill more.

Of course I'm drinking and might have beer and COVID brain.

He had absolutely nothing to lose. He was comfortable in the defense and locker room. He is a leader.

Trading Peters and Talib (guys who he worked with all training camp) and bringing in Ramsey, changing the defense on the fly probably had something to do with it.

But don't forget too that our defense was roughly a top 10 unit that year. Arguably the best under Wade weirdly enough:

9 pts to the Saints
13 to the Browns
20 to the Niners
10 to the Bengals
10 to the Steelers
7 to the Cardinals
6 to the Seahawks
13 to the Falcons
7 to the Bears

The really bad games against the Bucs, Cowboys, Seahawks (first game) and Ravens color the mediocre games such as the Panthers, Niners (2nd game), Cardinals (2nd game)

They were wildly inconsistent, looking like the best in 8 or 9 games, mediocre in 3, and horrible in 4.

But overall they were a good defense.

Didn't he say in that long ass SI article that he didn't have to save himself for the next game or next season so he was able to play harder than ever before? I remember reading that somewhere from him.

I think you are right, more read react. Working in less space with a better defensive philosophy
for his strengths

Read and react.. the exact things Rapp can’t do.

I don’t want to rag on Rapp too hard but this defense played so much better in his absence.

I will admit that I was hoping he wouldn’t be playing in the SB.

Gorilla Glue. Great way to Feed the Head.
My head feels like watching the SB again. I haven’t watched a replay yet so I might give it a watch.

My attention span is pretty limited right now so I might skip right to the 4th quarter. Ha

I seen the Stafford one… was there another?

If that’s the one, I lie, I seen the replay a dozen times.
There's an NFL one that's about 40 minutes long from both teams, the whole game. It's amazing.
