In all likelihood, Akers will be a Ram in 2023, Henderson wont. Akers was a miracle to hit the field last year in such a short time, but it doesnt erase that his injury will still hold him back, even if just mentally
Interesting, I kind of like that metric of expected yards per carry. It appears out of Akers, Henderson, & Richardson only Henderson exceeds his expected yardage while Akers and Richardson both fall a half yard+ shortCam Akers turning into Trent Richardson?
Cam Akers has been disappointing since returning from injury. Is he turning into Trent Richardson?

Guess it doesn't matter anymore. He has played his last down in horns.I see the same. But then again if you remove the negative plays caused by rushers in his face what does his day look like. Do you remember the Bettis era? The OL eroded his confidence and he was a different back, well, that plus poor coaching that unnecessarily blamed him.
Obviously Cam is not in Bettis' class. But RBs are like QBs in that linemen in the backfield can kill their confidence and Cam's at a point where they are trying to rebuild his confidence.
Henderson has value for us as the change of pace and I like how McVay used him in that game. The problem was the ground game did not get going, and that's what has to change to help McVay climb out of this shit. Because when he runs the ball his OL starts to fire off and we see better protections all around.
You can go all pass in this league if you have elite protections. But we're not there. So he has to run the ball and Henderson in that equation I see as a distraction, because he wilts or gets hurt with too many carries into the pile. Some day they're going to find a gene that corresponds to being able to be the bell cow on the ground for an offense. I'm kidding of course but many RBs do lack that ability to eat carries and get stronger as the game goes on. These are rare traits that the Rams need to seek in the draft instead of passcatchy RBs that are evaluated almost solely on agility. That is not working so change it up.
That my friend is the exact same thought I had.Trent Richardson had one of the worst field vision I have ever seen. Akers just seems to have lost desire.
Yeah it's a shame. Still feel he was the best option of this RB group via subtraction of the others but you can't piss McVay off in this town and survive it. Assuming he pissed McVay off which I think is reasonable as assumptions go.Guess it doesn't matter anymore. He has played his last down in horns.
He either isn't happy or the Rams aren't.
I just wished we would draft bigger backs. The kind that can move piles and run pyhsical.
but that's just my armchair opinion
This. We can only speculate, but Akers' problems seem to be at least in some capacity mental right now. I think it is a combination of frustration at less production and explosiveness post injury, low confidence as a result of those things, poor offensive line play that would sabotage any RB's hopes for a successful season, fumble issues.... it's a deadly recipe for things to snowball... nobody knows for sure, but that all must be very frustrating for Cam, and potentially leading to some depression, frustration, and other mental challenges. It all might be getting to Akers, also manifesting in poor attitude. Who knows. I am just spit balling here. But I do know Akers was seeing running lanes just fine in his rookie year, or at least, well enough to have some very strong productivity. I have not watched enough All 22 tape on Akers to know if his vision is a weak point vs. strong point in his game (that screenshot is painful, but every RB misses a big hole at some point). What I do know is that Akers' vision should not be precluding him from producing a productive running game. It never has before, at any level, including in the NFL, and you don't lose vision over night.Trent Richardson had one of the worst field vision I have ever seen. Akers just seems to have lost desire.
Bumping myself here.I just wish McVay would get next-level creative with the run game.. he's already doing some fun stuff.. Brandon Powell has been effective on runs.. get him the ball more.
This week could see a lot of jet sweeps.. let's see Skow and Robinson get one.
I think they should have some fun with a 2nd TE. I would absolutely LOVE to see them put Hoecht in that spot.. and in the backfield. He's kind of limited as a pass rusher.. but is a big athlete. Having him be a lead back on some runs.. or almost a 6th lineman in the backfield during tough times sounds like a fun gimmick.
