Me, "defense wins championships while offense put the butts in the seats". Thing is most of the hits shown here now would be personal foul penalties. I love seeing a big hit, as long as it is not against a Rams player then it is an "Oh Shit Moment".

I remember a hit/tackle/sack that Brockers did on a QB that was trying to run up the gut like a RB and Brockers was waiting for him. It was a text book tackle, but he legit hit him full force to the ground. Maybe it was driving the QB into the ground? I was so upset at the time and still think a QB is an actual football player and should not be overly protected. The same hit on a RB would not have been a penalty, imo.

I don’t. It was fun but once the CTE stuff started coming out the excitement of big hits totally lost its shine for me. Now I see them as unnecessary and dangerous.

As always you bring up great points and I feel similar. Funny how one evolves and this game we love has evolved in so many ways over the years.

I miss that era. I played in it, and it hurt at times. I am totally good with the rules today though. You don't have to get killed just to play a game. It's still fun to watch today, just as the Nick Scott hit exemplifies.

I always thought the "big hit aspect" of football was more for the juvenile enjoyment.

Certainly, one part of NFL football that makes it possibly the greatest sport is the courage it takes to put yourself out there and in danger.

However, the tactical/strategic infinite possibilities in football is what makes it the greatest.

I'm torn between the big hits (cool) and the injuries that result (not cool). But the worst part is that the referees are not always consistent when making the calls. Even that hit on Deebo could have been called "hitting a defenseless receiver". I guess as long as they use their shoulder it's ok? I never liked seeing players get their heads knocked off though. Some of those highlights were brutal.

yeah, but the issue is "just letting them play" results in serious/lifelong brain trauma.

But big some hits are going to happen and no amount of reffing will ever make it completely safe.

And that dirty lions player should have definitely gotten flagged for hitting Higbee in the knee. That guy knew he was hitting Higs in the knee area and that almost always results in a significant injury. In fact, they should start suspending for 3 games. I wonder what the players actually think about these "hits".

I miss flags not being thrown for every big hit. Not every big hit is illegal. For the ones that are, the refs need to be more consistent in calling them vs swallowing the whistle. The sport is full of physical freaks. If you have a field full of them, collisions with injury are always going to occur.

I believe that was against Breese near the goal line. It was text book. I was so pissed.

seeing players get hit on the head was never enjoyable. or the blindside hits. they were horrible. but all those legal hits in that video were fantastic and why we all watch the sport. the only downside is defenders can't hit qbs like that anymore. the qb hit is best play in football. i used to love seeing those guys get pummelled by the defense.
