1. Gabriel - him and the horns hooked me into the Rams in 1971
2. Warner - would be first if he didn’t hate the Rams so much
3. Goff - He pulled us out of a long drought
4. Stafford- needs another high performance year for Rams to pass Goff

No one going to mention Kyle Boller or Brock Berlin? And where's Buddy Humphrey?

Sticking with Superbowl era qb's I'd go:

1. Warner
2. Gabriel
3. Stafford

Sticking with qb's who played while I was old enough to watch football:

1. Warner
2. Stafford
3. Bulger

Each qb has to be judged in context of their eras, but they don't hand out MVP's for just being very good. If you were able (through time travel) to have all these great qb's (in their primes) on the same team competing for one starting QB job, I think Stafford gets the nod.

From those I have seen ... five stand out - Everett, Warner, Bulger, Goff, Stafford.

Everett - 107 games - 23738 yards (222 ypg) - 142 TDs - 123 INT - 8 GWD
Warner - 53 games - 14447 yards (273 ypg) - 102 TDs - 65 INT - 4 GWD - 2 SB - 1 SB WIN
Bulger - 96 games - 22814 yards (238 ypg) - 122 TDs - 93 INT - 16 GWD
Goff - 69 games - 18171 yards (263 ypg) - 107 TDs - 55 INT - 8 GWD - 1 SB
Stafford - 26 games - 6973 yards (268 ypg) - 51 TDs - 25 INT - 4 GWD - 1 SB - 1 SB WIN

1. Kurt Warner
2. Matthew Stafford
3. Jared Goff
4. Marc Bulger
5. Jim Everett

When Stafford leads us to a win in SB LVIII he will surpass Kurt. :fistbump1:

Really interesting to see the TD/Int comparisons.

Bulger + 29 TDs, averaged 1.27 TDs per game
Warner + 37 TDs, averaged 1.92 TDs per game
Everett + 19 TDs, averaged 1.32 TDs per game
Goff + 52 TDs, averaged 1.55 TDs per game

since 1976:

1. Stafford (2021-)
2. Warner (1999-2001)
3. Everett (1988-89)

4. Goff (2017-2018)
5. Ferragamo (1979 playoffs-1980)
6. Bulger (2002-2006)

I really liked Haden (1976-78) but after the 1978 NFCCG I began having doubts.

I liked Bradford, he's a what if situation, imagine if he didn't get hurt so often.

I saw Bradford when he was a freshman playing against Mizzou twice (once in the Big Twelve Championship. He beat us both times). I thought then that he was going to be a number one overall pick. If only the injuries hadn't happened.

I don't think a healthy Bradford would have been better than his best season with Minnesota. He had a completion avg of 71.6%, but had less than 4000 yards. I don't think he would have pushed the ball down the field more often than he did.

I find it interesting that so many people hated on Goff while he was a Ram but now have changed their tune. Goff was held back by McVay and has now hit his stride as a very good QB with the Lions who built their offense around Jared's skillset, something McVay didn't do.

Now I'm hearing the same thing about Mayfield. You can only judge a QB in the context of the team around him and system he played in. Under McVay, Goff never had a losing season but McVay like so many fans didn't think he was a franchise QB. Yet two years removed from the Rams, with a good offense and offensive scheme in Detroit he has blossomed into a very fine QB. People tend to think that the Rams couldn't have won a Super Bowl with Goff. The Rams don't win their last Lombardi without Stafford. That said, over the long run are the Rams better off?

Now I'm hearing the exact same stuff about Mayfield. I for one say that the Rams can win and be a contender with Mayfield offensively, every bit as much as they could have been with Goff. Both Jared and Baker are equivalent talents, and both are good enough to get to and win a Super Bowl if the team around them is also good enough. Like Jared, Baker would IMO keep the SB window open much longer than Stafford.

Matt's arthritic arm inflammation last year is a huge warning sign of his career trajectory. There is no question in my mind that Stafford is on the downside of his career. IMO the Rams would be foolish to allow Mayfield to walk because it would be foolish to believe that Stafford can even finish out the remainder of his current contract. To think Stafford can play at a high level for the next 4 years is a bad bet. Matt has earned is right to get one more year to try to win a second ring. But starting in 2024 the Rams need to be looking at a new starter, and right now Mayfield has shown to me that he can be a capable starter in the right system and a decent OL in front of him. Most of all he hasn't cost them multiple first round picks.

There is no doubt in my mind that Baker would stay if he knows he will be the Ram starter in 2024. This year will be his understudy year to learn the offense, the WRs and polish his technique. The Rams underestimated the QB that they had in Goff. They can't afford to make the same mistake twice. As someone who has a severe arthritic condition, I can say frankly, that Stafford's arthritis will only get worse over time not better. We saw how badly it affected his ability to throw deep with accuracy. To bank on an aging QB with an arthritic arm is not a good bet. Not when they have a potentially better option in front of them.

If the Rams didn't hesitate from moving on from a completely healthy Goff, when offered an opportunity to get Stafford, what makes anyone seriously doubt their willingness to do likewise with Mayfield already on the team? In fact I think they have already decided upon doing so. IMO it was a major factor in Sean not retiring. McVay was overjoyed to get a QB of his choice to run his offense with Stafford. I see the same dynamic with his looking at Mayfield and seeing the same kind of scheme fit but with a younger, more mobile QB. The Rams carried a huge dead cap when they moved on from both Gurley and Goff so that obviously wouldn't scare them to do likewise with Stafford. Like I've pointed out in previous posts, the Rams would have to carry Stafford this season because of the contract structure. Next year despite carrying a $36M dead cap, they can actually clear $13.5M off the cap making room for Mayfield and that could be much more if spread over two years.

They can sign Mayfield to a cap friendly amount for two years until the Stafford dead cap is paid off so affording Baker isn't really an issue. In terms of cap management Stafford is due to make $50.5M. But if the Rams are only carrying about $18M then the savings is even greater. That $50.5M cap hit for an active Stafford is why I've always felt that the odds were that the Rams would be looking at another QB for that 2025 season. So I think signing Baker as their next QB starting in 2024 is only advancing the schedule by only one year.
