RAS numbers are gym stats in no-pads. Are people still treating RAS like gospel?

I'll stick with my previous position on RAS:

RAS means shit when it comes to on field explosiveness. If it meant anything, Stephen Hill would be a household name. Branch gets a significantly higher score because of height, weight, and bench reps. Watch the tape.

I could keep going…
No need to go on. We just have a different definition of explosive.

My opinion was based upon what I saw on video. The RAS comparison was only listed to show the difference in what are typically considered the explosive measurables. Not the overall score.

It's not only garbage you'd think by their comments the Rams do t use it. They pay attention to so.e of the metrics but RAS as a whole they don't seem to.

RAS is fine as long as you realize that it’s a tool, not a rule. The NFL is littered with Underwear superstars that don’t see the field. Then there’s a bunch of guys that have mid to low RAS that show there’s more to explosiveness than running fast and jumping high without pads on.

Steve Smith (7.75) and Cooper Kupp (5.00) had pretty unimpressive RAS scores, but are two of the four triple crown winners in the modern era.

Adonai Mitchell had a higher RAS than Julio Jones…

Just the way I used it before you assumed otherwise.:sunglasses:

Gee. I don't see Ted Ginn Jr. at all. He was just a straight line speed guy to me.

Branch has great speed, but is also very shifty and jitterbug like. He's more like a stronger, more explosive Tavon Austin. But instead of being a tiny RB trying to learn to be a WR, he already is one.
I was comparing him to Conceptcieon (sp?). So my mistake if you were talking about Branch. I responded to a post about Conceptceion

When I first saw Concepcion his running style reminded me of Robert Woods.

I just can’t see how anyone could watch Zachariah Branch and then watch Tavon Austin’s college tape and come away with Branch being more explosive. If you took Branch’s all purpose yards for his best statistical season, it’s 818 yards…Tavon had 2/3 of that in one game…

I can't see your point of view either.

Did Austin get all those yards as a WR? And in the SEC or even the PAC 12?

I still think it's Lemon, unless he goes earlier than 13. But I like Omar Cooper, Jr., very, very much.
Agree. All things being equal, I think Lemon will be the pick.
Should Lemon go before #13…then things get interesting. I mean all of our draft opinions, wishes, and banter become possibilities. Real possibilities.

Okay, purely at WR Tavon had 375 more yards than Branch in year 3, averaged 1.3 yards more per catch, had 2 more touchdowns.

Referring to the conference they play in, Branch had over 50 yards four times (out of 6) against ranked opponents (0 100 yard games, whereas Tavon had only had three (out of three) but they were 187 (against the number 2 ranked LSU, who also played in the natty that year), 126, and 123…

Thats just junior year for junior year. Statistically, Tavon was far superior coming out. There’s a reason Tavon was a sure fire first round pick and Branch is not. Tavon didn’t pan out, but what he did in college isn’t anything short of amazing.

Never said what he did wasn't amazing. I just compared their explosiveness.

But, surely you can see the differences in the offenses and personnel around each player.

Tavon. NFL QB in Geno Smith and Steadman Bailey at WR. Team 4,509 receiving yards.

Branch. Potential future executive at QB and the next player had about 50 fewer receptions. Team 3,085 receiving yards.

Shoot. A pretty good TE in Oscar Delp only got 20 receptions for goodness sakes.
