Watch Lance's 25' highlight tape. Then you see all the big passes thrown to him by Payton. Of course you don't see Payton's negative issues on those plays.

Payton's highlights have him making throws that make you think what the fuck. The dude is a freak.

But when you watch full games... It's a bit different. This is why I say I love him as a fit for LA to put on the bench but he's a big time project. Big dropoff from several of the smaller QBs in this draft to him in terms of ability to run a real passing savvy offense.

True, but a lot of QBs struggle when they get hit a lot.

I would say his highs are higher now and his lows are not as low as they used to be either. He has gotten better overall.
I disagree.

Reason I disagree is because he's had an elite offense around him since they restacked that Lions offense under Brad. And he hasn't done a goddamn thing with it in the playoffs. And one of the reasons the Lions are capped in the playoffs is Goff. Because defenses know if you move him off his spot your chance to win the snap takes a big jump.

He's the same dude. Maybe wiser, ok certainly. Older and more focused I would hope so. But the same traits as a QB. He's an assassin if he's got protections and weapons. And when he's got a run game weapon like he has in Detroit it takes a very good defense to get to him without getting roasted.

I disagree about the playoffs because he played very well against SF. If Reynolds doesn't drop two 4th down passes, they win that game and go to the superbowl.

He would have gone to the SB in 23' if his coach had a brain and kicked a FG and if his WRs just caught passes that hit them in the hands. One turned into a game changing INT. They blew a lead because of those two issues.

Well you're the master of the participation trophies so I'll let you handle those.

And I could play the "IF game" with Ferragamo. But in the end the better QB was the dude who "couldn't spell cat if you spotted him the 'C'." :laugh2:

Nah, not like in that game. Ferragano missed a wide open WR in the endzone and instead threw a pick.

...we saw how highly this front office valued Goff when we shipped him off as a throw in to get a QB with true elite talent in Stafford.
Reports were that McVay felt that Goff had mentally plateaued. The Goff of today would be a top 2 pick if not #1.

At the time McVay was right. But Johnson did something McVay couldn't which was build Goff back up and develop him into a drop back passer (of course one cannot discount the oline and the pass catching talent he had/has in DET).

You could see when Goff had to drop back and didn't have PA to rely on he just wasn't processing things well here, could maybe get to 2nd read but easily flustered after that and unclear of what he was seeing when PA wasn't cleaning things up for him. This was also true of his disaster of a first season in DET.

One criticism of the McShannahan sxs is how little drop back passing gets practiced since it's mostly run and PA stuff. Goff got shipped off to Detroit where he ran and still runs far more drop back than in LA and has gotten fairly good at it due to Johnson's work (you can still hurry him with a pass rush but he's a statue, what are you gonna do).

What's funny is that once Stafford got here we turned into a big drop back team (well shotgun and some drop back) and that's how we won the Superbowl. Now we've become a Duo/PA/drop back team. Because Stafford is so well versed in drop back before he got here it's not such an issue that we don't practice it as much cause he doesn't really need as much practice in it.
