Yes, very short-lived Joe Willie's L.A. tenure. I actually feel lucky to have witnessed Joe's last pretty good season as a 1974 Jet.
I don't remember him actually playing for the Jets. The earliest I remember was I think he was hurt and not playing with the Jets. Then I remember him coming to LA, and that Monday Night game against Chicago, when I believe he was benched for Haden.

Yeah, I said allegedly, because I dont remember ever choosing to be a Rams fan, just that I have always been. Apparently I had an affection for JN due to the NFL Film "Joe and his magic Bean" and the Brady Bunch episode lol
Alas, in a lifetime filled with bad decisions at least I made one good one!

If we're going QB late in the Draft, this is the kid I like (if he checks out medically):

Hmmm... Small QB with back and knee injury history. What is the special you see in him? He seems to have skills but none of them that really set him apart from many others IMO. And yes... I'll admit I don't know much about him other than a few highlight videos I've watched.

I'm not expecting special at the end of the draft (6th/7th round). I'm looking for traits---bang for your buck. Daniels has the traits. Good athlete. Plenty of zip in the intermediate range. Compact release. Elusive. And while he's streaky, his accuracy is quite good when he's on.

I see the skillset of a good backup, maybe even a fringe starter. Think Tyrod Taylor. Not quite as fast as Taylor was coming out of VT imo, but similar in a lot of other respects. Assuming Cole Payton is now pushing for Day 2 consideration, I don't see another Day 3 QB who has the complete package he does in terms of traits, outside of Drew Allar. And Allar's instincts at QB just aren't good.

I like Allar
Allar reminds me of Blaine Gabbert. That's not a compliment. He has the body of a NFL QB. He has top-shelf arm. He's even a good athlete for a guy his size. But he's not good at actually playing QB. Bad instincts. Makes mistakes he's too experienced to make. Struggles with post-snap reads. And misses too many layups.

Just like Blake Bortles?

Allar should be different from Gabbert in that he'll be a budget QB option. Nobody will take him up high.

But I also have to say I never thought much of Franklin and still don't. And I don't like how Allar was used in that offense, though it is certainly possible that's the best they could do with him. In other words I don't want to make excuses for the player not figuring it out.

Yeah, but that's beside the point for me. I wouldn't have been excited about Gabbert as my team's backup either. Franklin is not a good QB developer. And the QB coaching on his staff was atrocious. But the issues I see in Allar's game are bigger than coaching. I understand why some people like him. They see 6'5" 235 with a big-time arm and some mobility. They think about what's possible if he figures it out. I see fool's gold.

I'm sure some folks will say that spending a fifth round pick on a guy with Allar's tools and upside is worth the gamble. I don't feel that way. I'll spend a Day 3 pick on Cole Payton's tools and upside. You can genuinely say that lack of experience is a big problem for him. It's easy to believe he can improve with time. Allar isn't inexperienced, but he continues to play like he is. That's why I'll take Jalon Daniels in the late 6th or 7th round over Allar. Daniels doesn't have Allar's size or arm strength, but he's better at playing QB. Plus, I'd love to have an athletic QB behind Stafford.

He's got all the traits and does nothing g positive with them. Looks like Tarzan plays like Jane. Actually that's an insult to Jane she can probably hit a TE over the middle.
