Which QB should the Rams draft next year and where?

I'm not sure Fergy's future is inline, probably F. I'm excited to keep Parkinson for another year (finances willing) as he's shown after a year in this system he can execute the Y spot at a high level (I mean, he's no blue chip player or even Higbee in his prime but still quite good).

I do think we should be looking to draft a future Y/inline TE this year or next for sure.

If Fergy ascends, our offense will continue to look a lot like it's been previously but Fergy will take the place of Kupp/big slot and we'll truly be playing more 12 personnel than 11 (or 11+ as people called it).

I would argue that TE is a harder position to adjust to in this system than receiver is. Just look at Parkinson’s production last year compared to this year, and he’s a vet.

Definitely think we should add another TE. I don’t see Higs back, and could see him maybe hanging it up if the rams hoist the Lombardi.

Sadiq would be very nice.

That would be best case scenario. Ferg has been very good in his blocking, all the TEs have really for the most part and that probably relates to our TE coach having an OL background. So I think worst case Ferg is our future as an all rounder TE. Or for another way to put it I think inline TE is his floor.

But yes hopefully he is more than that and can own the slot for us and be a big chain mover with some seam threat.

Adams and Nacua at wideout, with Ferg showing a jump in potency in year two would be a very potent pass game lineup. It would be a very potent 12 set with Parkinson handling the inline duties.

So if a classic X beast falls into their laps in the draft, it would mean an offense that shows more 11 sets as he progresses, with Ferg and Parkinson rotating as the TE. The offense would be more capable of absorbing the loss of one of the weapons as well.

By the way this also is why I think X is not as big a need as a CB1. Corner is by far our biggest need and that should grow as Durant and McCreary depart. But it just so happens that there's a wealth of big weapons in the early going and I don't think McVay will be able to pass on them.

I sorta get where you're going here but I want to add more to my thinking. Part of why I don't think Fergy's future is at Y is I think you waste a lot of his talent there. There's a significant but limited route tree he can run from Y and you want to have his pass catching ability to be maximized instead of hamstrung.

Of course, he can always flip back and forth from Y to F to boundary but I don't think you want him living in Y unless you need to because if he develops on his best course, you absolutely want him at F, offset the line, on the move, split out and at the boundary far more than inline. Also, I don't think his blocking will probably ever fully develop to the point where you want him doing all the very specific blocking at Y.

I don't see inline as his floor, I see it as forcing a player into a position where you don't maximize his talents. I see us needing a Y in the future to fully unlock Fergy.

The clue is what McVay said when they drafted him. He said he reminded him of Jason Witten who played and in-line Y TE. Like you say, even though I can’t recall, I would guess Witten also played from multiple alignments including being in motion

Hey I could be wrong! There is a world where he takes over Y and is a weapon from there for sure but it doesn't quite feel like it would be the best use of his talents IMO. Still early though. And again, it's like where does he live? Does he live at F and vacations at Y? Mostly I'm just talking about where he spends the majority of his time.

Witten also happened to be an option route monster. Great instincts in reading the defense. If you can do that you can play as long as your body holds up.

Not in that last game. I'm not sure how many snaps he got but he completely whiffed on at least two blocks. One of them, the guy ran right by him and blew up Stafford. He was in the middle of nowhere looking for someone to block while his guy ran free.

I'm a Ferguson fan but he really needs to learn his blocking assignments at the line. He seems to do a pretty good job downfield, but missing a downfield block isn't going to get your QB killed or a run stuffed for a loss.

Yeah he got schooled a bit in the last one. But he's a rook and he'll learn from it.

Probably and I caveat this with not having watched him much at all but I wouldn't love taking him in the 1st as I see him as a prospect in this moment. If I'm betting, I think he goes in the first though due to position inflation.
