Simpson isn't my top choice at #13 either, but I don't see any real validation for the critique that because he sat for three years and stuck with his team, he's not competitive. And yes, I know Simpson isn't Burrow, but Burrow also sat for three years. So that alone can't be the reason Simpson lacks competitiveness.
One does not equal the other necessarily. So let's agree to disagree.

Extremely unlikely we are going to be in play for even the top 3 quarterbacks of next year's draft. Having said that, Ty Simpson is right in there with quarterbacks 4, 5, and 6 of next year's draft. And remember last year Nussmeier, Allar, and Beck we're supposed to be part of this year's FIRST round, not day 3 where they are going. So a lot can change in a year and right now that second tier of quarterbacks next year is being way overhyped. Like I said earlier , I will put Simpson up against the Sellers, Mateer's and Sorsby's of the world.
Personally, I have a ton more faith that next years QB class is going to produce a lot of higher end prospects. Several of these could have come out this year and been 1st rounders, and will come out next year:
D.Moore
Manning
Sayin
Maiava
Sellers
Carr
Mestemaker
Leavitt
Mateer
Sorsby
Chambliss

Not even including:
Lagway
Raiola (can't see him coming out after transferring behind Moore)
Iamaleava
Mensah

Some of those guys will not be great this year, but some of the QB's not mentioned will surprise. That class is going to be LOADED at QB. There is going to be more QB talent then teams needing to spend a high pick on a QB, which is why I think we can get a trade up package. At any rate, I know the Rams brass knows if they like any of those guys already.

And I'm a guy that thinks Simpson is going to be pretty good. I want no part of him at 13 however.

Could we say the same for Simpson snd McVay? Perhaps Arizona is an OK spot for him too
I mean, it's a possibility - yes.

But there are two HC's who are absolute QB whisperers and that's Payton and Reid. I put Shannahan right below them but he still has to have a certain type of QB even if they don't have a dominate athletic profile.

McVay comes in 4th or 5th to me after that. He's a top 2 playcaller and offensive coordinator nee HC in the NFL but I don't think he's as good as those guys at QB development and management.

No don't get me wrong, I can't really say I want Simpson at 13 either. You're probably right if there are truly that many Quarterback prospects in next year's draft it's better to wait. For me, Simpson is a "like to have," not a "have to have."

That is not one of your strongest posts! I would say it was the other way around!
Hard disagree but don't think I have the strength to go deep on this one.

All I'll say in addition to this is that I think Bo Nix would be on a prove it year with just about any other team right now (after two years in the league) and it's been remarkable what Payton has been able to do with him which is pry open a lane for him to be productive in the face of some major deficiencies in his game and possibly even giving him a runway to improve as a deficient prospect year over year in the grind house of the NFL to the point where he may be a top 15 QB consistently in a few years.

I'm fairly convinced the Rams are going to let someone else take that chance and move heaven and earth to grab one of the studs next year. Perhaps that even includes trying to trade for a proven vet. Guess we should kind of hope that the Bengals have a down year and their notoriously cheap owner is open to moving an expensive player like Burrow.

All I'm asking for is an explanation. If it's not the sitting for three years (and it can't be because Burrow, Brady, Warner, etc.), what is the basis for your view here? Is it because he played worse down the stretch? I'm asking for a clarification. Then, I'll happily drop it.

Boston at 21 sounds great. Kinda where I'd slot him.

Ends up being a wonderful complimentary receiver for a long time. Never a blue chipper but really productive.

Compliment to who? His game is exactly what we have in Puka, but at a lower level. The two inch height difference isn’t enough for me

If you require me to explain it after already explaining it, that's where disagreement is best reached.

If it wasn't the three injuries in one year, I would probably be okay if we traded down and use the higher second round pick for Simpson.

I wouldn't go NOOOOOOOOOO during the draft but because of those injuries, I just would not take a chance on him before the 4th round. And even then - I would be iffy.

Right, well since he's going a MINIMUM of 2 full rounds (and possibly more) before your estimation of MAYBE taking him in the 4th, and if you're being honest, you KNOW this, shouldnt you just say you're NOT Drafting him??? I mean, is the histrionics of WHEN you would take him necessary???

Nope - that's where i would rate him right now if I had a big draft board.

Every club has their own draft board. Why not me as a fan?

Stop with the condescending BS. You know better than that.

He was a 5 star recruit. The fact he stuck around on that roster is something that I fucking guarantee you teams will ask him about. They're going to want to get to the bottom of that. So quit being naive and acting like teams don't check that shit. They absolutely check it as compete is a top concern and it's something you have to use the history of the player to piece together a picture.

Not saying it's perfect or that he's a shitter for sticking around at Bama. But as a top recruit for him to sit on the depth chart like that is something you want to get to the bottom of. And when he rattles off the "I'm so loyal" BS a smart team will keep digging. From there if you're happy with his approach, cool. But stop acting like it's some shit you just accept.
Hey Merlin how is it going ?
Actually I do not know a thing about his time in Alabama. I know zero about any NFL teams checking "that shit", never given it even a thought. I do not watch any NCAA football, none.
You mentioning this is the first I have heard of it as I have no care factor for it.
I simply do not want him to be a Ram because I want our QB to not be some smallish dude without a rocket for a right arm.
No Brock Purdy types for me.
I watch the Rams and who they are playing, prime time NFL, the early game when the Rams play at 1 and playoff games, not much else.
I spend enough time just watching the Rams, if I watched college football like I do the Rams I would not get anything done. Not enough hours in the day.
What I know about the draft is what I read here. And I want no part of Simpson even in round 3. I have been passing over posts about him for awhile here.
Get a OT or a WR and lets rock.

I'm going to laugh my ass off if we draft someone no one here is really considering. I want Tyson, I'd surely take Love, everyone is mentioning different players, watch the Rams take none of the above ...... hey that rhymed hahahaha

There was talk among draft commentators that Verse was better suited to playing end in a 4:3. I was certain we were going TE or CB. Boom, we took the best defensive player in the draft! Let’s show the NFL how to do it yet again :-)
