What's the deal, are we using ARob correctly?

I am doing close this week but when I get some free time I am going to watch every pass play and see where Robinson is during the game against the 49ers.

I want to see if it is Robinson or if Stafford is not taking advantage of Robinson being open and going to Kupp or Higbee instead.

And it will be a long post. I will list each pass play and what happened on that particular pass play.

I was watching a show the other day and it said Allen Robinson was ranked 144 out of 145 WR in separation on his routes run. I think he is washed.

Or is it just taking AR longer to adapt to playing in this offense than we had hoped?

Sure, he's still a reciever and has to get open and catch the ball like every other.... but McVays offense demands so much more from it's starting WRs that it probably wouldn't be unfair to compare it to learning an entirely different position.
Learning a new play calling lingo can take some time before it sinks in but learning a new playbook and new teammates, coaches, facilities, culture - all that would make any head spin. Add the weight of SB expectations to his shoulders.... that's a lot to digest mentally before he can stop thinking and just play fast with confidence.
Nothing will make a healthy player appear slower and sloppier than playing with uncertainty...

I remember a lot of people citing all sorts of shit to convince us that OBJ was washed-up in CLE and that the Rams were crazy for signing him and they were just adding big names for the star power to attract attention in LA, he would be a distraction and is a bad teammate.... it was all a bunch of puffed up bullshit.
Did OBJ get faster or become a better athlete by playing in horns? Did his hand-eye coordination improve in the California weather?

AR might become a huge addition for us or he might be as disappointing as Drew Bennett was for us - I have no idea. But I do think evaluating him after a dozen or so games makes a lot more sense than declaring him washed up after a dozen or so targets...

At 6'2 210, ARob has good size. I think you have to get him the ball in the 7-10 yard range and let the guy run and break tackles when he can.

Once again I'm gonna say this....it doesn't appear the Rams have any sight adjust plays...BUT THEY NEED THEM So Stafford and the WRs can quickly take advantage of some defense alignments!

We are pretty much married to ARob by contract. It's as bad as Gurley's contract, with no feasible opportunity to waive him until 2024 and no trade partners expected on the horizon. Gotta figure a way to make it work somehow.

The Rams offense is known for its complexity for the pass game weapons due to shit like sight adjustments based on the defensive structure. So it is entirely possible that Robinson doesn't have the offense down just yet.

Right now we're at the "get the OL unfucked" stage of things and getting Stafford back into form because his accuracy is dogshit and he looks like he spent the offseason drunk. And the defenses don't get any easier in the next month.

Next four games include Dallas (3rd in scoring defense at 15.5 ppg), Tampa (5th in scoring defense at 17.0 ppg), and the Shitters (1st in scoring defense with 11.5 ppg). Only Carolina has a less than 10th ranking in scoring against and they're 13th at 21.3 ppg. This offense needs to figure their shit out.

Get ARob going. He might not be great at running the Rams variety of screen but do it anyway on early downs. Get him the ball in space early. Design some of their bunch stuff to spring him loose on a quick throw. McVay can certainly scheme ARob some early quick throws. I think he does it this week.

In the beginning of the year (Really, we're only 4 games in) it seemed like he was getting open and it's on Stafford for not throwing his way, and recently he's not getting open and dropping passes.

What's the deal. Hopefully it gets fixed.

I didn't understand the Robert Woods Trade / Pay new guy same money. Missing Robert Woods right now.
I want Robinson to be successful as a Ram. Guess I need to be patient.

I decided to look at the 1st series to see how Robinson did and it is all McVay's fault that Robinson doesn't have any receptions.

Not one play was designed to look at Robinson as a first choice.

Since the 49ers bring a hard rush, every play was designed to be quick passes and to the opposite part of the field from where Robinson was.

Basically they were using Robinson as a decoy.

A couple of times Robinson either just stood there pretending to block or was downfield ready to block without even looking for the pass since he knew that there was no way Stafford would throw to him (both were screens so okay).

But I agree with some assessments, let's throw some quick throws to Robinson early in the game so his head is more in the game. Being a decoy each time is going to get tiring.

I also noticed that on Akers runs he is not cutting like he did his first year.

He had some runs that if he cut to the left he would have gained an additional 5 yards or so.

He is running right into tackles on a lot of his runs.

That is pretty dumbfounding. What kind of decoy can Robinson - or any player - be if everyone knows he is never going to get the ball? We need more diversity in this passing attack. Kupp is incredible. He's my favorite Ram. But we are targeting him way too often. Hopefully, McVay and Stafford adjust.

Has time come for Rams to give Allen Robinson the Kenny Golladay treatment?

Would the disappointing receiver’s playing time be better spent on Tutu Atwell or Lance McCutcheon?

Those stats match the eye test for me when it comes to Allen Robinson. Disappointing, but yet open enough that he should still be seeing more targets.

Especially considering that he was never a huge separation guy to begin with, but rather, more so a contested catch specialist. Stafford is supposed to be a QB that fits that style of WR, not needing tons of separation to feel comfortable throwing a pass, so what is going on?

Robinson is almost a complete ghost out there. The targets Higbee and Benny Skow are getting completely drawf Robinson's volume. I think that is on McVay and Stafford equally as much as it is on Robinson. I know the o-line is in shambles but figure it out. It appears there are almost 0 plays designed for Robinson, or where he is the primary read. That makes no sense, and is also a perfect way to alienate, frustrate, and discourage your big free agent signing. ARob's body language definite looks like he is pressing and thinking too much right now. Not good.

As the line improves, if it does, so many things will suddenly look a ton better.

They don't need to sit Robinson to give McClutch some looks.

Kupp is hardly among the NFL's best deep threats but he is still plenty fast to get open deep, and we have seen it many times.

If he does go deep, rest assured multiple defenders will follow him.

I don't understand why we don't use Kupp as a decoy or to clear out space for other WRs more often. His body could no doubt benefit from a few less targets.

20% route success pretty much matches what I said on this thread or one of the many others about this topic. He never seems to get open or get separation. I was thinking it was because we have him running routes not made to his abilities. Maybe they're too long to develop and Stafford doesn't have time to hit him. Using him for the short fade in the endzone works well. Something fast/simple off the line, not long complex routes. I'm by far not an expert, but from what I see, it makes the most sense.
