The Rams FO use players such as Kayvon Webster, Jamon Brown, Ethan Westbrooks, Tavon Austin, Dominique Easley and possibly Mark Barron plus round 4 draft picks or later as combinations for trades to move into the 1st and second rounds of the draft.

We seem to have a surplus of players who could potentially start for other teams and multiple late round draft picks (4th round on) to make solid trades into the first and second round. An example: trade with Baltimore Ravens - Rams trade Ethan Westbrooks or Dominique Easley, and Kayvon Webster, Tavon Austin, a 6th and a 4th rounder for their 1st (#16) pick.

Another possible trade could be with Tampa Bay for their 2nd round (#38) pick - Rams trade Mark Barron and a 4th and 6th rounder. Snead is incredibly aggressive when it comes to trading on draft day, and I really think the Rams could move into the first and second round when the draft begins at the end of this month.

Maybe I’m just thinking too much about this, but it would be a great way to pick up some possible starting linebackers and offensive lineman that we will need in the next couple of years.

Jamon Brown and Mark Barron right now aren’t really expendable with the holes that we would have from trading them.. I wouldn’t be against moving up though for sure

Umm, a backup, a player coming off of a major injury who may not be healthy until late in the season, a guy who is clinging onto a roster spot by his fingernails, and two mid to low picks for a pick in the middle of the first round? Piling a bunch of not very desirable trade items does not add up to a good pick.

Why would we want to weaken established depth in areas where we are fairly set and then have to replace them with late round picks when we have other well discussed depth issues on the OL, at LB and at Safety ? This doesn't make sense to me. jmo.

First thing that pops to mind is why? Get rid of starters so we can have a first round pick? Second thing that comes to mind is if this were possible they would have traded those players to the Patriots instead of our 1st round pick. Nothing listed there is of enough value, even as a whole, to get a 1st round pick. Even if it was trading them creates more spots we need to draft and start rookies.

I am not too concerned about it. The Rams have enough star players. They don't desperately need 1st round talent. Now they do need quality cheap labor which a 1st and 2nd gets you. So now it is up to using our multiple mid rounders, the 3rd, three 4ths, and at least the pick near the top of round 6. Those 5 picks have to yield at least 3 to 4 quality players that have a chance to play significant roles over the next 4 years.

If the Rams had a normal draft, with one pick in each round, you would still be looking at trying to get 4 guys out of your top 6 picks that can contribute.

So the Rams still have 5 or 6 picks in the top 180 or so and 4 have to help. Then maybe with a little luck they get a UDFA or a street FA, after cuts happen, that can add another player to the core, like they did with Troy Hill.

So Snead and his scouts need to earn their money now.

Nah, I think we're fine. I can see them trading down a few times to get more low rounders. But starters are all but set with the exception of an olb'er spot unless they bring back Barwin. We have enough picks that they should be able to get some quality depth at important positions. And then there's always the UDFA market that Snead loves. We should be fine. The main thing at this point is getting some players extensions done so that this team doesn't implode after one season and so we can actually be under the cap.

The Rams think they can win it all this season. They are putting all their chips in before they have to start paying the big contracts. Teams that have the best shot at a Superbowl, usually do it before their developed stars reach free agency and need to be paid. This is the perfect year to go all in, while they have he money. Maybe they can make it last a few years, but eventually the cap crunch catches up to everyone who has to pay their young QB.

The first and second round picks were turned into exactly what teams try to find in every draft; top young talent. If they used their first round pick and drafted Cooks, and Talib in round four, we would all be doing cartwheels, and praising Snead for a fantastic draft. They don't need to trade for a first or second round pick, because they already chose their players with those picks.

To put it in perspective after the Rams draft, list the picks they traded and add they names of the players that the acquired with those picks to the picks that they drafted. Then it won't feel like a draft without a first round pick. It will feel like a great draft.

Do the same next year with the second round pick and add Peters name in that slot.

The good news is that Kayvon Webster, Jamon Brown, Ethan Westbrooks, Tavon Austin, Dominique Easley and Mark Barron would definitely garner a 1st round pick!
The bad news is that it would come from a trade proposition from Vince McMahon's new XFL league....

Dominique Easley signed as an unrestricted free agent with no interest from other teams, right? Doesn't that mean he has 0 trade value?

There’s been a lot of good feedback from this thread, and it’s definitely helped me to see this from other posters views. I’m now of the mind that we are better keeping these players as backups for their respective positions.

To make me feel better about the draft, I’m going to place the recently acquired players in the draft spots we traded away:

Round 1: Brandin Cook (traded pick)
Round 2: Marcus Peters (traded pick)
Round 3: tbd
Round 4: tbd
Round 4: tbd
Round 4: tbd
Round 5: Ndamukong Suh (traded pick)
Round 6: Aquil Talib (traded pick)
Round 6: tbd
Round 6: tbd
Round 6: tbd
Round 6: tbd
Round 7: Sam Shields (traded pick)

Aaaahh, I feel much better looking at it this way .

I really feel that the biggest marked man in that list is Kayvon Webster. He's at a position now that we are stacked in with good young talent. With starter Talib and Peters and nickel cb's Shields and NRC dude is an expensive ass 5th CB with Peterson and Hill still out there. He might be used as trade bait but not prime because of the ACL injury and rehab. It will be very interesting come draft day 2. No way we get back into round 1 without giving up something major.

Pretty sure Webster had an Achilles not an ACL. He’s almost a lock to be let go.

We would save 3.1million by cutting him and he wouldn’t be ready to go until December.

.

You can't cut an injured player. If they want to let him go they have to come to some sort of injury settlement.
