In all it's 40 HP beauty, the 1969 VW Beetle Convertible!

My younger brother and I shared one just like this.

Turned 16 in 1975 and had it all to myself for a year, except when I had to drop him off....

Fun car, no power.

Got two German cars now with a bit more power.

Bought that at a place called Syraki Motors in Sunnyvale, CA. It was run by two brothers who spoke perfect English when I bought the car from them but not so well after the engine blew and we wanted our money back. Our dad threatened to punch one of them in the head and he said "We want no "trooblay." I guess he meant "trouble" lol. He got it anyway.

The Sprite was fun but had twin carburetors which constantly gave me trouble. Always had a spare one in the trunk.

Love the A.H., ... always wondered if that's where the 'smiley face' stickers came from. Was yours an English right side drive like the one in the picture or a conversion for the American market like my MGA ?

I did it in reverse where my second car was a 1969 Beatle purchased from a neighbor in 1974 for $900. bucks. About 5 years later I converted it to a full race 'Baja' bug with full interior cage attached to a triple shocked rear suspension on either side. That thing could corner like a slot car.

Mine was an American conversion. My mechanic told me once that I was putting his children through college because that car was in his shop so much. :sneaky:

Lucas parts ? That twin carb system on the MGA was troublesome for me, damn thing always got out of 'tune'.

I had one of those. Mine was technically a 64 1/2. It had the larger engine and no shocks so if you tried to break traction around a turn it would chatter and hop rather than slide. Mine was off white and I rolled it 5 times after hitting a deer.

My first car was a 71 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser station wagon.

It had a 455 “Rocket” engine and would beat almost every hot rod in town as long as you had a rolling start. Unfortunately you could pretty much watch the gas guage drop if you jumped on it. It was great for piling a bunch of high schoolers in the back and doing donuts in the bottom parking lot at school.

A friend of my sister’s dad owned a garbage company. Huge jack in that business. The friend Lefty, always has panteras and now has a collection. His were almost always yellow.

Loved going out topanga canyon with him.

Don't remember the name of the parts but the car always sputtering from the carbs being out of tune is exactly what happened.

He only threatened to punch one of them? :rolllaugh: I remember him popping the dad of one of my neighborhood enemies. It was after the dog chewed up said enemy! :yess::rolllaugh:

Considering your mechanical "skillset" I can imagine twin carbs being an issue. :neener:

Yeah, he only threatened to punch the guy who lost his grasp of the English language once confronted by the fact that he was trying to swindle his son. "Well now you got "trooblay." We got some but not all the money back.

We had a weird neighborhood for sure. It must have been because it was a dead-end street and it became incestuous with everyone knowing everyone else's business and sticking their noses in where it didn't belong. Every once in a while someone got punched or bitten by our dog. :sneaky:

awesome , I have the exact same car , kinda sorta , only mines a 86

I bought my first one when I was in the Navy , a 84 , just had the four banger and four speed , , never really had a chance to drive it a whole lot , because I spent alot of that time over seas , and shortly after I got out of the Navy I got married and sold it

Then about 8 years ago I stumble upon a 86 for sale locally , with only 32,000 miles on at the time , and it was just to good of a deal to pass

Even this one , I don't drive a whole lot , I'm not sure what part of the country your from , but Fieros are horrible on snow and ice , which is like 50% of the time here , so now the wife and I take it out every once in a while during the summer and cruise the lakes

my daughter drove it more then I have the last couple years

Gonna find me a Mercury and cruise it up down the road.

I got my parent's first car. Black, with a purple (yes purple) cloth interior. Threw some fuzzy dice in the mirror and I had the only pimp-mobile in high school.

250,000+ miles on this bitch...from Oklahoma, Texas, Florida, and Canada, this car saw a lot.

Just no hood scoop, tinted, and the Dual tail pipes were chrome and a bit shorter.

I'm an idiot for selling it and got many tickets in it like an idiot. I think my funnest vehicle I've ever had to drive.

Hell yea man! I live in Florida, but I spent a brief period up in PA during the winter, and bad in ice and snow is an understatement. I couldn't drive over 25 miles an hr with out it spinning out. Awesome to see another Fiero enthusiast here.
