Nope..We played in Frisco in the last game of the year with our back ups...Earlier in the year Goff played vs the Niners in LA
You're exactly right, except backwards...

I want to see Gurley tred marks on the back of Sherman's jersey.

I want to see Jimmy G smiling and laughing on the sideline when his team is down by two scores.

I want to see Barron destroy one of their JAg RBs in the whole.

I want to see our offense methodically destroy their defense.

I want to see our defense stop the run like they did in Denver and force bad throws into coverage.

This is a rivalry game and I hope our team gets after it.

Go Rams!

I just want to see our defense step up and dominate an opponent. Stingy with points, yards and get sacks, turnovers. It's been awhile.

Robert Saleh on facing Rams
By David Fucillo

Last year you weren’t able to sack Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff. How much is that him being able to kind of slide around in the pocket and how much of that is the way the scheme, the way they protect him?

“They do a good job. He does a really nice job of getting the ball out on time. We did sack him. We had an illegal contact, if I remember right. That was [LB Elvis] Dumervil’s 100th sack that got called back. But, they do a really nice job. They do a nice job. [Los Angeles Rams QB Sean] McVay does a great job, the quarterback does a great job. They’re very efficient in how they operate. So, it’s going to be a great challenge.”

When you watch the Rams offense on film, how similar does it seem to the offense that you see every day and what unique challenges does it present?

“It’s very similar. Obviously, they’ve got their nuances, but the efficiency at which they operate, it’s the same thing as with Kyle. They’re very efficient. They’re very precise. They’re relentless in the way they attack you. Then you mix it in with the quarterback playing the way he is, their O-Line, the receivers, the back.

It’s a special group and they’ve got a great scheme to go with it. When you have a great scheme and a mixture of all of those guys, it’s pretty cool to watch because I feel like it’s the offensive version of the way we try to operate on defense. It’s very efficient, very precise and so again, it’ll be a great challenge.”

11-5 here we come
this is the game. This is where we fire on all cylinders. Shanny gonna torch Wade Phillips and Saleh is gonna get his boys to play sound fundamental. CJ is gonna stop being a nice guy and put up 49 points. TEAM OPTIMISM LETS GO

49ers - Rams

At home makes it a little closer but I have this one:

Rams - 41
49ers - 16

No turnovers again for the Niner defense and the DBs get torched again by Goff.
-----------------
Well the Rams aren't the Packers they actually know how to play defense so I don't expect a lot from this game. Likely an easy Rams victory, I think I threw up a little while typing this.

Four Downs: Keys to a 49ers Upset Win over the Rams
49ers Staff

First Down: What is the key stat of the game?

Joe Fann: Red zone efficiency

The Rams boast the No. 1 offense in total yards and the No. 3 scoring offense. Suffice to say, Los Angeles is going to move the football on Sunday. The key for San Francisco will be holding the Rams to field goals. The ability to bend but not break will keep the 49ers in the game as long as the offense can do its part and keep up. So conversely, it's imperative that C.J. Beathard and Co. turn red-zone opportunities into touchdowns.

Keiana Martin: Turnover differential

There’s not much to say here besides the fact that the 49ers cannot afford to give the ball away on Sunday. San Francisco has struggled in generating turnovers with just three takeaways through six weeks compared to 14 turnovers. Ball security is an absolute must if the 49ers want to change the narrative of their season.

First Down: What is a position group that needs to play well?

Joe Fann: Offensive line

You could easily argue that San Francisco's offensive line has been the most consistent position group all season long. They've powered the 49ers third-ranked rushing attack to a healthy 5.1 yards per carry average through six games. The Rams defense is talented, but if it has one deficiency, it's stopping the run.

Los Angeles is allowing 4.8 yards per carry, which ranks 28th in the NFL. The best defense is often a good offense. Establishing a consistent run game once again will help keep Jared Goff and the Rams offense on the sideline. It also goes without saying that the o-line will have its hands full with Aaron Donald and Ndamukong Suh in pass protection as well.

Keiana Martin: Cornerbacks

The 49ers have allowed 1,674 yards so far this season, seventh-most in the league. Of those yards, Richard Sherman has allowed just 28. It is up Ahkello Witherspoon, Greg Mabin and Tarvarius Moore to step up against the Rams talented crop of wideouts.

Last week, San Francisco allowed three 100-plus yard receivers against the Packers. With Jimmie Ward doubtful for Sunday, the 49ers aforementioned corners will need to make significant strides against the Rams high-powered offense.

Third Down: Which Rams player is the most important to contain?

Joe Fann: Brandin Cooks

The 49ers secondary has had a few costly busts in each game this season. Richard Sherman called some of the recent miscues "Day 1 mistakes." Cleaning up communication will be imperative against Los Angeles' high-octane offense. A blown assignment against a home-run hitter like Cooks will result in a Rams touchdown. Keeping up with Cooks downfield provides enough of a challenge, so the 49ers will need to make sure they don't beat themselves with self-inflicted wounds.

Keiana Martin: Todd Gurley

Gurley put on a clinic last week against the Denver Broncos. The Rams running back rushed for a career high 208 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries. The 49ers have been solid against the run, ranking 13th in total yards and 10th in yards per carry allowed.

In addition, San Francisco has allowed just a single 100-yard rusher so far this season (Melvin Gordon - 104 yards). Reuben Foster will face off against Gurley for the first time in his career and will play a key role in the 49ers efforts to slow down the superstar running back.

Fourth Down: Who will score the 49ers first touchdown?

Joe Fann: Kyle Juszczyk

Here's the situation: The 49ers are on the goal line and in I-formation. Shanahan dials up a play-action pass, and Juszczyk releases into the right flat. C.J. Beathard rolls with him and tosses an easy touchdown pass. That's what I'm calling. Don't ask me why.

Keiana Martin: Matt Breida

Breida currently ranks fourth in the NFL with 430 rushing yards to go along with his three total scores this season. In his last meeting against the Rams, Breida put up 104 scrimmage yards as the 49ers backup ball carrier (72 rushing, 32 receiving). I foresee the 49ers calling Breida's number in the red zone against a Rams defense that’s averaging just under 100 yards per game to opposing running backs.

I heard an "expert" say today that Sherman would be covering Brandin Cooks....lol. Cooks is going to make Sherm look like an old man, imo.

People have been dogging our run defense, but as usual, the stats don't tell the full story. We had truly shitty efforts against Seattle and the Chargers. However, in our other four games, we shut down the opponent's running game, including the Broncos (who were arguably the best rushing attack in the NFL going into the last week). The 49ers might have a good day running the ball. They have an effective ground game. But our run defense is nowhere near as bad as people pretend it is.

It's also funny hearing prognosticators say we suck against the run, but ignore what happened last week (held the Broncos to 60 yards rushing)

Yeah this was my thought. I can’t see how Sherman can keep up with Cooks. Technique can only get you so far.

@Prime Time Fucillo is the worst writer on SB Nation. I'm surprised he wrote in complete sentences. He absolutely hates the Rams and can't explain why in his articles. Not exactly a winning trait as a quote, unquote writer. He's even worse than RVB and Joe3k.

I think the Rams stop the run early and make the Niners one dimensional. This isn't going to bode well for a pissed off Hill and Joyner who need to step up their games. Further, the Rams really haven't hit a multi sack game since Minny. I think this is going to be a Rams blow out kids.

We had two sacks against Denver. Joyner and AD. ;)

Yep. If there's a weakness on defense right now, it's Troy Hill. I'd be fearful of Godwin vs. Hill on an island. We'll have to give him safety help.

Seattle and San Diego pounded us pretty good.

Our other 4 games...

Oakland 20 rushes for 90 yards...4.5 per

Cardinals....I don’t think they count for any NFL stats this year. Lol. I’m kidding...sort of.

Vikings ran it all of, what, 10 times?

Broncos was the one game they made a concerted effort and performed well. Here’s to hoping it’s a trend of things to come:cheers:...

But I’m a bit concerned still. I’ll be curious to see how the next few weeks go...SF, GB, NO, SEA, KC...that run defense will be tested a bit more. I hope you’re right, jrry(y)

Raiders: 23 rushes for 95 yards (4.1 YPC)
Cardinals: 15 rushes for 54 yards (3.6 YPC)
Vikings: 17 rushes for 54 yards (3.2 YPC) (Kirk Cousins had 4 rushes for 28 yards on QB scrambles)
Broncos: 17 rushes for 60 yards (3.5 YPC)

If the Vikes get an asterisk or footnote for “QB rushes” to help your stance...then I think David Carr’s “2 carries for 1 yard” should be mentioned.:sneaky::boxing: (...lawyers)

Just having fun with ya.

And I see your point. I’m just still a tad skeptical. That’s all.

I'm not trying to sell our run defense as elite. I'm just saying that I don't think we should be defined based off of two games. The 49ers have a talented running game. They could have a big day. But then again, that's what everybody said about Denver. Wade seemed to have a plan for Denver.

Oakland - Check
Arizona - Check
LAC - Playoff team with a good offense.
Minnesota - Playoff team with a good offense.
Seattle - Divisional game, Russel Wilson, Big plays with two crucial busted coverages
Denver - Ground (check), Air - Keenum 25 of a whopping 41 attempts and playing from behind; not too bad against the pass.

I get what you're saying, I do. I believe SF will fall between LAC and Seattle somewhere IMO. They will score some points, but it will be less than 24 I believe.

Rams are at 19.7 ppg currently which is good for 7th in the league. Looks great on paper but as you elaborated on it's been trending down since week 1.

Talib out hurts a great deal IMO but the bottom line for me is the lack of forced turnovers and an opponents 44.6% 3rd down conversion rate. 5th worst in the league. A great defense has to be good in at least one of these get-em-off-the-fucking-field phases. Either force a ton of turnovers or force punts on 3rd down. Rams D is struggling with both right now.

This post is where the rubber meets the road. We started off hot, but it was against two bad teams, which you should expect good teams to do. Then we played two very good teams and got exposed is some areas. Last season the defense was indeed getting turnovers at a higher rate. But also, last season the whole team was at full strength filled with guys who had played with each other a ton of snaps aside from the safety position. There also was not a lot of tape and there never is until this point of the season to get a good feel of what the defensive scheme is going to portray.

Personally, I believe that with the new additions and the injury bug hitting us hard this early in the season, we are witnessing a defense that is still good, and loaded with talent. However, I also believe that the threshold of our ceiling is obviously lowered right now due to the reasons mentioned above. I think we will see a Patriot type defensive season as we are currently: “bend but don’t break”, until we get healthier, and guys start figuring out tendancies of their teammates. As the Patriots always seem to do, aside from last year, their defense tightenes up as the season progresses and then boom, come weeks 12-16 and into the playoffs, they are locking teams down at a higher rate. The diffeeence? The Rams should lock teams down at an astounding rate late. Having the late bye week will help immensely IMO.
