I'm confused on this one. Isn't there a penalty for a hit on a defenseless receiver? If this isn't, what is?
Perhaps we missed your blue font. Text book “within the play” hit. In real time was such an impactful hit their originally threw a flag but upon review 100% by the book hit.

Although the NFC Championship game against the 49ers was one of the best wins EVER by the Rams, the two Super Bowl wins were still better. I might put that NFC Championship game 3rd though. The Rams go so many monkeys off their backs after that game... losing to the niners in both regular season games, SOSAR, getting outplayed physically (supposedly), 6 straight losses, home field dis-advantage, NFC Championship on the line,, etc etc. In fact, you could say the Rams killed that little niner monkey -lol.
Worst of all, losing to the team's most hated rival in their own brand new stadium, and having to watch THEM play the SB in OUR building. That would've hung over this team for eternity.

We can talk about the journey.I don’t know though? Great hit,but the SuperBowl call against Cinncy?
There was a flag called on Nick Scott & was pissed.Glad they picked it up.
Great hit.

Eric Weedle made a play & then an announcer said Greg No Gaines makes the tackle.Just another player stepping up.
The Weddle play was second down; Gaines made the stop on 3rd.

Yep- both were game changing plays.Hiw Eric Weedle got so far into the backfield & made that tackle was impressive. He trust his reads & the Niners we’re trying to pound out the win.

No. No blue font intended. Don't get me wrong, I love the hit. But, over the years I've seen many penalties for hitting a defenseless receiver. This looks like one that's had that penalty in the past. So, I'm generally curious why this is a Text Book tackle vs. a penalty.

I hate the way Deebo was lying on the ground faking he was hurt badly when he pops up a second later and runs to the sideline and back in the game on the next play

Stop the fricking cheating
I thought the 49ers played a pretty dirty game overall. Two or three hits on OBJ (only one was called) and the head-but on Stafford were just a few examples. I think they bought into the hype that they were the tougher team and could bully the Rams. The bully got popped in the mouth, though, in the end.

Was he back in the next play? I don't remember seeing him until after the half was over, but maybe that's the many shots I did doing the thinking.

Scott squares up to the receiver, drops his helmet away from the body and hits Deeblownup in the pads. Scott didn't land on top of Deebo, didn't lead with the helmet, and timed it to try and jar the ball loose.

Ok. Thanks! Do you know what causes a hit on a defenseless player flag?

Sadly, the League didn’t address all of those after the game. Especially the Warner headbutt (I believe it was him). BS IMO

After googling the rule, I have a better understanding. It provides two conditions: 1) A player cannot create unnecessary contact, and 2) A player may not foul while making contact. Scott hit Deebo trying to dislodge the ball and hit him legally with his shoulder initiating contact into the pads.

3) Official/field judge discretion
