It’s almost like this was a Twilight Zone game. Almost everything was abnormal and with a bizarre twist.

Some things I didn’t recognize last night...

Jared Goff. Who was that guy impersonating my QB?
AD. When was the last time you saw AD virtually erased?
Staley’s first half D. 49ers were running and passing at will.
McVay’s game prep. Gawd, it seemed like they gameplanned for a different team other than the 49ers.
Who the heck was that guy wearing #10 and pretending to be Kupp?

Those were some of the things I couldn’t recognize. Here are a few other thoughts that have seeped in since last nights debacle:

Maybe the Rams aren’t as good as I had thought. It hurts to type those words but I now have reasons to doubt my previous assessments.
Both McVay and Staley got schooled last night and on a national stage, at that. Both coaches need to take a hard look at their scheming and playcalling.
Playing an NFC West team sure is different than playing an NFC East team, huh?
Shanny currently owns McVay. Three in a row is not a coincidence.
For a crippled team, the 49ers looked pretty danged good, don’t you think? Makes the loss even more excruciating.
We have a problem at edge opposite Floyd. I watched Ebu, Hollins, Lewis, and Polite rotate there last night and NONE were effective. I’m on record as saying that this was our Achilles heel and might prevent a SB run.
Sloppy tackling will kill even the best schemed D’s and the Rams tackling was sloppy last night. I don’t even want to know the yards after contact figures.
Where was the ‘want to’ on either O or on D last night? I mean, this WAS a critical division game, right? This is the most unforgivable thing about last night to me.
I’m beginning to wonder whether ILB should be a high draft or FA priority next offseason. Feast or famine with Kiser and Young, dammit!
Rapp seems to be playing out of position at deep safety. Did Burgess run over Staley’s dog? Why else not give him a chance?
Broken record, I know, but why is Sloman still on this roster? Seriously.
Webster has looked great on returns for 2 games, so WTF is McVay still using Kupp back there? Makes zero sense and is so Un-McVay like.

There were a few bright spots last night but it’s a very short list, indeed.

Hendy played well.
OL did it’s job.
TE’s did their job, too.
Floyd had a pretty good game.

Umm, sadly, that’s about it. Sorry.

Rams have a lot of work to do before the 5-1 Bears come to town. Gulp...

I hate the fact that this team has a tendency to put shit execution on national broadcasts. That is just embarrassing and I hope the players feel the egg on their faces today.

Couple of things I couldn't figure out.

1) They instituted a special bootleg defense because we smoked them with this last time. We don't run it AT ALL? We just assume they got this covered now? I mean, I bet that Warner dude flying around might have been neutralized if he was burned a few times.
2) Then again, we continually gashed them with Hendo. Why get cute? That play at the goal line was only stopped by amazing 9er defensive play. Just give it to him again take your chances (up the middle, or off-tackle). If they stop it, they have to work their way out. That pass call was Carroll-level brain fart overthinking of the highest order.
3) Why didn't they pressure more? I know they burned us on one, but that was because of poor technique by the guy right in Crap's face. Make him do that repeatedly and we win by 35.

Just confused and disappointed.

Thank God the Dodgers treated the Braves like the Falcons and came back from oblivion! Thank God we're not ATLANTA!!!

Let's be real here: this was probably Goff's worst game.

In all his other bad games, there was one constant: no time to throw. Last night he had time. He was just bad.

It was also Kupp's worst game, by far.

Everyone else just played okay. AD didn't play well, OL false starts, tackling. But if Goff and Kupp upgraded themselves from "awful" to "okay", we win that game last night. Which means that we would have beaten the Niners with everyone playing their "C" game. It just so happened that Goff and Kupp brought their "F" games and we couldn't overcome that.

And all that with the Niners playing the game of their lives because, this was quite literally their season.

So from that perspective, I was actually encouraged - I don't believe Goff or Kupp will play that bad again, AND I doubt the rest of our team will bring their "C" games again.

I'll call this game for what it is. A bad game. They just seemed to be out of sync. The offense had no identity last night, and they just seemed out of sync. The defense was the same. AD seemed slow and the rest of the team seemed to be playing on skates.
Obviously shanny and his crew saw something on film and out schemed us once again. There's no way that an average 9ers team comes in and puts it to us like last night unless they're seeing something on film. Mcvay needs to adjust his game planning because what he's doing doesn't work against the 9ers.

From the very first action it seemed we were ill prepared on both sides of the ball. Why did we not stick with the run - what was our game plan? Shanahan ate McVay's lunch period .. Kupp had the worst game I've ever seen him play. There were plenty of gaffes to go around, I singled Coop out because he's usually one of our most reliable receivers. I've been wondering about Webster as well, to me it's a no brainer - play him! Did you see his hit on special teams? He is not afraid of contact .. Sloman ?? That's a head scratcher ...

I think the team just looked exhausted. Wonder if all those east coast trips finally got to us?

Nobody wants to hear that but yes, that had to effect our team, who pulled if together to crush the WFT after a close game with the giants but by 5:20pm they were burnt out.

Funny thing is McVay is better at 10am games on the east coast than primetime on the west coast.

I guess thats fine. Primetime losses keep people thinking you suck while 10am wins fly under the radar.

Monday Night with the Bears coming in......Our Defense should be ok, but I fear we may only score 9 points total against that D.

I'm not. We're better on offense and defense, have more talent and we're at home. And second straight road game for them.

And we just played awful.

If we lose, were probably not a playoff team - but I think we win by 10+

Niners have a better D than they do statistically. And it's not like the Bears have played any juggernauts

I saw the game the exact same way. Agree with every word in your post.

I have a ton of faith in Goff and always have, but he played like dogshit.

I have a ton of faith in Kupp and always have, but he played like dogshit.

Really hard to win when your QB and one of your top WR’s both have near career-worst games.

Plenty of faith the team will bounce back.

What cracks me up is that the undefeated packers got punched in the mouth by Tampa, Aaron Roger's doing his best Bad Jared impression.
I guess Green Bay isn't a play-off team too, because apparently "this doesn't happen to good teams".
Bullshit. It can and does happen to good teams and in our case, desperate division rivals are always, ALWAYS a threat to beat up on a hot team.

The Rams, like the Packers, will be fine in the grand scheme of things.
I expect a rested and refocused bunch on Monday Night. I only hope the butt hurt will heal enough for some of you to be able to sit and watch the game.

The funny and eerie thing about that Green Bay comment, is that they are coached by a “ramlike” coach in Lefluer...
