Many of us were surprised by these two decisions. But after reading some tweets by Vinny B and thinking it through and watching TC, pre season, they make sense, and here's the thinking. Webster is more of a slot guy than Hodges, and keeping him would not disrupt the other WR's should something happen to Kupp, he is coming off ACL knee surgery. He also can step in at KR-PR.

Lawler is currently hurt and its unkown to what extent. Should he go on IR and lost for the season, it would create a roster spot for Allen.

Am i making any sense?

IR doesn't necessarily mean an entire season any longer, he could be designated to return after 8 games I believe.

Not if he is put on IR before week one. If that's the case he can't return.

My guess is they add a player after week one and Lawler goes to IR.

Some of my thoughts on a few of the players commented on above........

*OLB'er Justin Lawler is a very large size OLB'er being over 6-4 & between 265 & 270 pounds last season. JL is not a skilled pass rusher either. So what's up here? In addition, JL is injured to boot? Hard for me to see an OLB'er like Landis Durham cut & Justin Lawler retained if something was not planned for the future with JL. I do not see JL as a OLB'er need on this team when you have Matthews/ Fowler/ Ogoronkwo / Ebukam & Patrick.

Might be JL, who is very steady, heady & sturdy defender plus a serious Bones favorite could figure into future plans @ the current DE Brockers post with Morgan Fox next season. Snead just cut what we thought was our future 2020 starting DE in John Franklin-Myers after a very poor showing in TC & preseason.

WR's JoJo Natson & Mike Thomas will enter free agency 7 months both needing a new contracts. Kupp & Reynolds will demand the same a year later. Webster will be only a RFA in 2022. Thomas has a serious history of being unable to remain healthy. & JoJo Natson is a toothpick rolling around with massive redwoods on Sunday! Keeping Webster makes a ton of good sense.

Well, things might not be over for Dakota Allen and others...Of course the practice squad is out there for some. The joint press conference with McSnead hinted at some moves that are coming..
