Well if all the rumors are true and what we all are thinking here on the forum, Raheem Morris will be gone next year. Either as a HC or something.

So who do you think fills his shoes?

Does he not leave and stay?

Alex Grinch, Former USC Defensive Coordinator

Does Stanley come back if the Chargers release him?

Erik Chinander, former DC for Nebraska, Andrew Thatcher Georgia Tech DC?

Jim Schwartz, Browns DC?

Just curious to see what peoples thoughts are on who we should target or are hoping for.

None of the above. Especially not Grinch. He sucked at Mizzou, and Lincoln Riley just fired him.

I'd rather just promote Henderson. In my opinion, he's a rising star, and I don't want him to get away.

I do wonder what will happen with Raheem.

Seeing a defensive coordinator do so well as an HC, like with Ryan in Houston, I wonder if more doors will be open this year.

Alex Grinch? Good one. If Staley gets fired and Raheem gets a HC job, I could see Staley ending up back with McVay.

If the Rams continue to have a crappy season, Raheem will not be an attractive HC candidate. How would a new team justify the hiring?

Raheem will be back as the Rams DC next year.

Seems most likely.

But, given the amount of talent he has, I think he's doing a pretty damn good job, tbh.

But, like you say.. tough sell.

The new HC will bring his own DC and OC.

No team is going to hire Raheem. Why hire a guy who at best is a mediocre DC and at worst a poor DC? The only way is for McVay to ease him upstairs to "consultant" status as they did with Kromer then not renew his contract so he doesn't have a firing on his resume. They can then promote Pleasant to DC and Jimmy Lake to DB coach. This way there is no Rooney rule issue because it's all internal promotion. Also if Raheem does get a HC gig in 2025 the Rams should get comp pick or picks. IMO if it's going to happen that is the way it will happen. IMO that is why Jimmy Lake is simply "assistant HC". It's also IMO the only way they could have gotten Pleasant to return.

This could all change should McVay be replaced next year. We will know in February.

Raheem status is dropping with every loss. You can almost see it on his face on the sidelines. No head coaching gig in his future at this point. Maybe he takes a college job?

Again, I could see this unfolding if the season continues to spiral downward and the Rams only end up winning 5 or 6 games. Then McVay we walk away to focus on family, which every Coach does to recharge and await another gig and then the Rams will be looking for a new Head Coach.

Please no to Staley. +1 for promoting Henderson.

I'm one of Raheem Morris' biggest critics, but the defense was absolutely gutted in cost saving moves with the mindset that the offense would pick them up, eg playing with a lead, disguising the lack of talent in our young secondary, etc. I actually think in a lot of games, Raheem and his crew have greatly overachieved. With that being said, I wouldn't disagree with promoting Henderson one bit.

Raheem Morris is not the problem. No coach can do any better with what he has to work with. If he leaves it will be for a head coaching job. But assistants from bottom ten teams don't usually get hired for head coaching jobs. My guess is he will be back next year.

I think Raheem is a second tier DC but the Rams didn't exactly set him up for success this season. As things stand right now he would not get many HC interviews unless they're the obligatory type to check the box, but there is room for him to knock an interview out of the park which I think is possible. The guy is intelligent, speaks well, and players don't fuck with him.

If McVay sticks around and Raheem doesn't get a job he will be our DC in 2024. The guy took the offseason personnel hits like a man, you didn't hear one complaint from him, he was all about the team and supporting his head coach. What they'll do is aggressively add pieces in FA and/or the draft to help him bounce that unit back.

I don't want Staley anywhere near our young defense. He has the most expensive defense in the league and it is complete shit. He has Mack, Bosa, Derwin James and the unit as a whole is worse than our current group. Run the fucker all the way out of LA.

Wouldn't it be a weird world if McVay walks away or gets fired and Raheem is the new head coach? Could happen.

Second-tier is probably fair for Raheem.
Not Fangio.. but definitely not bad.

There are a number of great coordinators who weren't good HCs. Staley led us to a #1 defense in 2020 as our DC. His struggles as HC don't speak to his abilities as a DC. Very different jobs.
