I hear what you're saying. It's better to keep that private if its really only a good deed, but I don't think Rashad had any ulterior motives for that.
He probably wanted to preserve the moment for prosperity and capture his mom's reaction.

Whatever his motive was, it's a phenomenally awesome gesture. I wish I could do that for my mom.
