Did I like the loss - NO. Did I like the fight in the 2nd half - YES. Do I have faith the Defense can improve - YES - but we have to admit the problems that we have that are not going away. A few observations on the defense:

- LB tackling is consistently bad
- Joyner is playing uninspired ball - he is an emotional guy so I believe something is bugging him
- Peters needs mentoring - he's killing us on his inability to stay with receivers
- The Rams D was great in the 2nd half - as they often are - I attribute this to Phillips adjustments
- Someone on the DL - other than Donald needs to step up in pass rush
- Fowler needs to be integrated into this Defense quickly - as Longacre is a huge liability

Man, that's not cool.

Didn't mean offense X but his age needs to be discussed. He is great at making adjustments but other coordinators seem to be able to do that in game, in between drives. What would you attribute that to? If he can identify the issue, wouldn't he correct it immediately? If it's not being corrected isn't it safe to say he's not identifying the problem quick enough?

Sorry don't agree. This Ds leaks have been going on all season. It's week after week.

I defer to what I said. I'm not talking
About the saints O. I'm talking about Wades D.

It's not very good
Again I ask...what defense of the top teams are good? We did have some critical stops in the 3rd quarter, or else we never would have tied the game at 35-35. There are too many rules that hamstring defenses in today's NFL.

You can discuss his age without calling him senile.

Ok this is now off line.

Nothing wrong with his age. He has more experience and talent than any coach in the NFL.

It's not his age that I was referring to. Just how the game has evolved since Wades heyday

Sorry I started the thread

The only negative talk by anyone all year has been about the D . Today they got lit up , and if not for the fumble last week they would be 7-2 . No pass rush at all will get average DB's burned . At least put your hands up and deflect a pass against a short QB if you're not getting pressure. Brees looked at Peters everytime he needed a big 3rd down .
Better figure it out before KC comes to town .

It's certainly reasonable to question the defense after what we saw today.... Wade earns some of the blame - but Honestly don't see him as the big reason the D struggled today.

Tackled very poorly in the 1st half and our secondary is vulnerable (which they really tried to address in the off season and it's not working so far).

D line didnt get pressure and i saw multiple times the D ran around Brees. That's not on Wade. i was pretty pissed at the D this game, but if you look closely its the players not being able to make the play that is causing the problems. That and the fact Peters is obviously not on the same page. Dude was straight talking when Thomas ran right past him for the game sealing td.

Wade had a championship defense 2 seasons ago. The NFL hasnt changed at all from that time.

@EastRam you commented on the game passing coaches by, isn't that a direct reference to how long he's been in the league or his age?

My point wasn't related to scheme or X and Os because I think our personnel doesn't fit a man coverage system well. I'm just curious why all these great adjustments being made at halftime cant happen sooner?

No it's not. It's a direct reference to if the changes in the NFL has passed his skill set.

He can change and elvolve regardless is age.

Does he need to. Dunno. Can he of course he can.

Agree with you 100% inept defense !!

Yes but don't let that get in the way of some whining. We played a great team and we showed well. It's amazing how some feel only the Rams can be good and have good players. We just played the 2nd highest scoring team in the NFL in their house and took their best shot and were in the game at the end.

We showed well?

You realize the conversation is about defense?

We showed....well? On defense?

Take off the blinders. It's one thing to be a Homer, I can understand homerism. But don't lie to yourself for the sake of trying to be the voice of reason.

Having said that....I don't think Wade is out of touch but I do think our defense is underperforming and has been under performing all year.

Let's be clear.

The Saints OL is playing lights out. I was watching them and they were giving Brees just enough time. Also, Brees is a first ballot HoFer who is as good in the pocket as any QB ever.

And still we hurried some throws.

We had a new addition on D today and that surely affected Wade's calls. SEVERAL times, the CBs, not just Peters had an issue with the play call based on what they were seeing, but they'll get that ironed out. It seemed Wade was calling a DL centric game and the calls confused the secondary or they couldn't hear the adjustments.

I'm not worried about it. This team will battle.

Not beating the Saints in their house isn't a demerit. It would have been if they'd won 45-17, but they didn't.

The refs helped them get up huge in the first half and I think they just let them play the second and we outplayed them, but not by enough to overcome the first half deficit.

/shrug.

People losing their minds about the D without really paying attention to what's actually happening is tiresome.

I know there were things that were wrong. I could go into them, but I'm just not wanting to contribute to all that negative energy.

On to next week.

Either you have faith in this team or you don't. If you do, it's on to next week. If you don't, then this game is another brick on the wall of "the Rams suck".

As Reagan said to Gorbachev, "Tear down that wall."

We need to execute better, especially in the first half, no question.

That said, you look at the last two games and we had to overcome a healthy GB team after we'd just spent three weeks on road games and then go back onto the road to face maybe the hottest team in the NFL in their own house.

We have coaches to fix things that crop up be it bad angles, bad tackling or simply making sure everyone knows what's going on with a particular play call.

At the end, as Tony Romo reminds us, "you're doing it. Watching the game with your friends is all you can do."

I have faith that the Rams will be victorious in the end. That said, what is gonna happen is gonna happen and I can choose to enjoy it in any way I can or be upset it's not perfect.

Since nothing's perfect, seems like an easy decision to me, but to each their own.

I think it was pointed out that in many of the Rams games they were playing with a lead. Makes the defense job at times easier.

Are you assuming I'm upset?

I'm not really....because I already knew our defense makes pro bowlers out of other teams players.

I'd just rather be open and honest about it and not hide behind cliche's.

We'll get better on defense. We have no choice.

Of course you don't. I'm not gonna say the defense played well today, it's obvious they didn't.

This thread is some narrative (personally I think knee jerk based on the loss) on how it's going on all season and Wade somehow can't keep up. The numbers say otherwise. Prior to today they were 6th in points allowed, 8th in total yards. Of course they will drop some after today.

A mere 3 years ago (which more than qualifies as "today's NFL") Wade led a defense that single handily won Denver a Super Bowl. So no, I don't think the game as "passed him by" or whatever other narrative.
