That's why McVay has no option but to shut Stafford down this season. They could get another 2 years from him. If they don't shut him down then the odds of him retiring go up exponentially. It's $36M if he retires in 2024. Either way his contract is structured so he's done in 2025. That's why the Rams need to get his successor or a vet bridge QB on the team next year. It's why I'm saying sell the house if Michael Penix enters the draft. You watch him play and he's a perfect fit for McVay's offense and he's very elusive buying time.

The problem with Goff is that he wasn't a scheme fit for McVay's offense. It's why Goff is doing so well in Detroit. Penix is right out of the "box" he's plug n play for McVay. With all their scouting connections at UW Snead and McVay have to know that. It wouldn't hurt Penix to play #2 for a year maybe two. But he's retirement insurance and will be an incentive for McVay to stick around.

I say this not because I dislike Stafford. Quite the contrary I love the guy despite his turnovers. But this machine is McVay driven and the key cog in McVay's machine is a QB that is a scheme fit for his system. Penix despite being a rookie would be a better fit than most vets. He's a pocket passer that can read defenses with a NFL arm and very good accuracy, especially his deep balls. But he's got excellent mobility that is enough to force defenses to play contain which slows down the pass rush.

Penix is as good or better than Justin Herbert.

Who knows? But he is 33. Hell, maybe he would have gone down in week 1. Or not at all. This reality is he's injured now. And it bears wondering, was signing him with 45 mil guaranteed a smart move? The story isn't over and eventually we'll get the answer. Sooner or later.

It's Super Bowl or broke for the Bills. The Playoffs start in roughly five to six weeks. Have him primed up and ready to go by then.

The Rams did the right thing in letting him walk. An injury like this makes you feel better about it. If I'm not mistaking, this isn't Von's first knee injury. Aging like wine and knee injuries don't go together.

As for Stafford, I comment I saw early on the first page. I think he'll keep playing. That's a ton of jack to walk away from. I'd say the Rams are officially on the market for a young gun to groom behind Stafford. I'm not sure how many years his new contract is.

I think we are being a bit premature here. Nobody knows the extent of the injury yet. It could keep Miller out for a few weeks. It could be season ending. No use in speculating. We'll just have to wait for the MRI results.

Either way, I am glad the Rams did not re-sign him. I badly wanted Miller back. I think he would take this defence to an entirely new level, just like did in 2021-22, and I think Miller was worth big money to retain. Just not the type of big money the Bills gave him, with guarantees to boot. That is the kind of contract that you give out to a player when you think he is the only missing piece you need to win a Super Bowl. The Rams were not in that situation this past off-season, and the Rams are certainly not in that position today. The Bills, by contrast, with that stacked roster, and after seeing Mahomes and Kansas City drive down the field to beat them in the final seconds of the AFC final with almost no time on the clock, were probably not unreasonable to think "if only we could have gotten to the QB...". Although I think they were two pieces away. A pass rusher that can also contain AND a running game.
