No idea but it seems like it's big business now. What kills me though is that I had such a nice collection and didn't hang on to it. The thought of rebuilding it is so painful that I can't bring myself to buy a player (I could actually link it to my power soundbar I have under the TV which has crazy good sound).
And I love vinyl man. That crackle you get at the start when you put the needle down is the greatest.

The record stores that have managed to stay open due to the transition from compact discs to simply downloading music have heavied up on their vinyl. I also check book stores and thrift stores as they also have really good deals on used vinyl. You can find a steal ot two in those.
LOL my wife did the same thing. Got me a Bread album, a Michael W Smith, and (best of all) a greatest hits double album of the Bee Gees (yes!). Was gonna hook up the player to my Edifier bookshelf speakers that i bought a couple years ago for my PC, but we had a little extra dough so she got me some mid-century lookin Crossley powered speakers.
I've no idea where she got the albums (Christmas secret), but there's several options in my area, a place called Vintage Vinyl, and a hole-in-the-wall on route 66 that supposedly sells albums. With vinyl becoming a craze, I'm sure there's options near you, just gotta turn over some mossy covered rocks & find them.

When I was 9 years old, I had a friend who was a huge Beatles fan. My dead beat dad gave my older brother a huge collection of LPs (1983 ish). My brother was given a full set collector Beatle albums. The vinyl was made up of different colors (limited print). I asked my brother for an album to give my friend Roland. He was 17 and didn’t care about them (he was a Sabbath and Floyd fan). So I gave my friend two Beatles albums. Sgt. Peppers and Yellow Submarine. Both are worth a few hundred dollars now, but it broke up the collection set of colored albums. Every now and then my brother gabs me about it.

I did notice during the Christmas shopping season , Walmart was actually selling a decent amount of record players
I know our local Walmart now has more LP's then they do CD's
not that they have a whole lot , but looks like CD's are going the way of the 8-track

My advice is to not be cheap. Cheap record players wobble, causing occasional skipping, and have bad sound quality. Do not buy a cheap $60 player from Walmart or Target.
You should research top brands and see if you can find one used. Audio-Technica is a brand that makes good record players. I have an Audio-Technica LP-60 (~$99.95 new), their lowest quality player, and it's been great for me so far. Make sure you get a player that has audio output that allows you to connect to a speaker.

It’s not a discount place at all, but Rhino Records in Claremont is pretty awesome for vinyl records. Huge store.
