This entire season's OL saga began with the plan to move Avila to Center. But Avila to Center was a failure. So at that point the Rams said "Ok we're gonna spin this bullshit as we need Avila at LG, and we'll just play Jackson at Center. He, after all, did play it once, like in Pop Warner or something." And the media and the faithful believed the bullshit and drank much koolaid. And happiness reigned. Well, until we actually played real games.
So I think this is that game where the Rams got caught up in their own bullshit. Where they slid back into the storyline and it bit them in the ass the same way it did early on and then with injuries, when McVay had to actually lose games to wake the fuck up about reality with his OL.
Basically here we go again. And I wonder, this time around, whether it will take 3 or more losses for him to call it what it is. Not like I really give a shit at this point, as this team isn't gonna win a damn thing even if they get into the playoffs. I sort of love the idea of picking high for once (let's say 15 or better) so we can get a great wideout or LT.
What they should have done is play Limmer at Center, either Avila or Jackson at LG, and McClendon at RT. But they got two positions wrong by my estimation, starting Jackson at Center and even worse Noteboob at RT. And then after Jackson's high snaps fucked a key drive for us, they inexplicably left him in there. That, my friends, does not win my favor with the OL coach. I'm really fucking irritated by the way they made their decisions on who to play, and then not pulling both those guys for at least a series or two to see if they could get a better fight out of the line.
No matter how you slice it 3x new players on an OL means it's gonna be 5 guys doing their own thing again, which is exactly what we saw. Well that plus a couple of them getting their asses beat over and over. Stafford is too fucking old for this shit. He needs a good line. Do that and this team can play with anyone. Don't do it and this team can lose to anyone.
