Really hard to believe. I can't get my mind around the idea here.

You'll likely see the Big 12 make a play for the remaining big schools like the Oregons, Washingtons, Utah and Colorado's. The rest merge with the Mountain West. Just my guess but this happened because the Pac12 schools took a dive in football recruiting power.

But haven't the big 10 schools aside from Michigan and that other OSU been sucking in recruiting over the past couple decades as well?

Penn State and Michigan have been pretty comparable in recruiting over that period, outside of PSU's sanction years. In the last 10 years, they have basically alternated as second fiddle behind Ohio State. Nationally, they've both been in at least the top 20 consistently, usually in the top 10.

The other top programs recruit in the top 30 consistently as well, without as many "splash" years, but overall, the Big 10 is a great recruiting conference, probably limited by access to California and the Southeast more than anything.

Either a new conference or they absorb the MWC
It makes me wonder how long the Rose Bowl alliance can last. Stanford, Cal, OSU, and WSU plus the best of the MWC isn't much of a football powerhouse.

I'm not a traditionalist and have no emotional ties to college football... so to me this move to fewer, bigger and stronger conferences makes sense.

It always baffled me why the big teams spent so many weeks waxing small teams 56-0 instead of playing big match ups against other powerhouses. Surely more big games is a good thing?

Aside from this year where Michigan lost a ton of recruits to State and doesn’t have a top 50 class.

2021 was a down year for both, and Michigan ended up 14th, PSU 19th according to 247's consensus rankings.

Got it. You're talking about UM's 2022 class. Yeah. It's not big, but it's decent talent wise.

But for what Michigan should have it’s terrible. That’s a class Kansas ST should have not Jim Harbaughs Michigan.

It's the 23 class. Yeah, that thing's a mess. I figured that Harbaugh would make a late push like Oklahoma did, but it doesn't look like they have many options left. That's a pretty big outlier for them though.

Oregon and Washington have already given interest in joining the Big10 and the Big10 put them on hold because Notre Dame working internally to decideif they want to join the Big10. Obviously they are a hug TV draw.

That being said the Big10 Network TV contract are the reason UCLA and USC decided to go over, Utah, Washington, Oregon, And Notre Dame will fill out the remaining two spots.

I imagine the WAC and and MAC move some teams into the Pac10-12 now which is a good thing potentially for my school NMSU which is independent right now.

This is going to be fascinating to se show this all plays out.

They are talking about in the near future of not having divisions and just having a conference playoff within the Big10 and SEC.

Everyone is talking about these super conferences , with like 20-30 teams

but I don't see it

because we're still talking about money , and TV rights

the teams that are already in a conference , are only going to want to slice the pie so many ways

the more schools they let in , the thinner the slices become

I see the BIG TEN only allowing , two more schools , if it's Notre Dame , then one more school to make it even

if not Notre Dame , they might not even bring in another school

alot of talk about Oregon and Washington , but I could also see them looking at a ACC school , like Pitt , Syracuse or even Clemson

Like I said above , Ohio St and Michigan is only going to want to share that new TV contract money with just so many schools

my guess , and thats all it is , it will be Notre Dame and one other school

The ACC have a media rights deal through 2036 that is supposedly very difficult to get out of. So whilst Clemson especially seems a good candidate to move conference it will be hard for them to do that.

Agree, only way they add another school is adding NotreDame. They have crazy TV rights and TV deal with add a following. I don’t think ND will since the dodge Michigan and Big 10 schools now.

ND and Oregon would be crazy in the Big 10! Crazy ass games every week!

Hard to imagine the conference recovering from the loss of the LA market. Which is a shame. But I suppose with all the changes we're seeing to the college game with player movement it's inevitable that we see structural shifts too in the conferences. Feels bad to me, but I've been attending Div II games with my local team so I guess I shouldn't care all that much any more.
