I think Morris is an excellent option for them as HC. He interviewed with them last year so there is some familiarity. Also he's been with the Rams this year and culture-wise should be able to take a lot of what they do with him if he gets a job. And his background has a really nice mix of positional exposure on both sides of the ball.

Drawback is he isn't that lockdown coordinator who has a history of getting the most from a roster. Also he's not the big offensive mind many owners want for QB development. But the dude has leadership in spades. He can get in front of your roster and lead them. And it takes leadership to install culture.

I would love to see him get that Jags job.

Should've never been hired in the first place, but let's be frank: Jacksonville has more problems than just Urban Meyer.

The Jacksonville franchise is a rotting corpse in a sweltering Texan sun, with vultures plucking out the eyes, flies buzzing around for any sustenance while their newly-hatched children feast on the remaining flesh.

Dark? Yeah, but that's how I write. :p

Jags will have one of the very top draft picks next year (yet again!), along with the most cap space of anyone.

Need a experienced real pro to manage that windfall after Pope Urban nearly produced a football reformation.

I hope Jim Caldwell pulls a Vermiel and returns to coaching.

That's who I'd target. Someone who is the anti-Urban. A coach players love, has had success everywhere he's gone generally speaking, and has a history of coaching QBs successfully. They already have their QB of the future so can go all in sucking up as much raw talent as they can with their premium picks and cap dollars in the offseason. Only problem is their GM is still there who might screw over any new coach. But if they fix that part Caldwell would be a good choice. Anyone who can get a winning record out of the Lions will be a godsend for Jaguars.

My question also is what in the hell was the Poirot wannabe waiting for that he waited this long...Or better yet, what in the hell was he thinking when he hired him ?? I was never a big fan of Urban Blight, but I didn't know what a real prick he is...He's coached his last game in the NFL and might not be on the first page for a lot of college jobs...
I agree.

When Rome was a local SD - LA show he was great. Schtick got old and syndication killed it. Haven't listened in years but could be a fun listen today
Pretty sure it’s the exact same show, probably with the same dudes calling in.

I'm a big fan of Caldwell, think he got a real raw deal in Detroit, but I have to disagree on him being a fit there. I think they need to ride the wave of the "young, fresh mind" coaches. The old school types just dont seem to fit with new teams.
9 current HC are under 40, or started their current position under age 40.
Another 5 guys under 45
at 66 Caldwell would be the 4th oldest HC in the league and Im afraid a bit too out of touch with a team that will be comprised mostly of guys under 25

I agree. Caldwell's a great dude and would be a safe choice for the owner but I don't think they're going to go anywhere good with him running the show.

Thing is that Khan is kind of a dumbass as an owner. Lot of people in the media talking up Caldwell right now and I get why, so I could see him doing that just to make up for overlooking so many quality black coaches in last year's round of interviews. But if he wants to go that route there are some quality guys who could install culture there for him who happen to be black and also younger and energetic. Not that I think ethnicity should be a primary factor, I don't think that. Just observing that he's been getting some heat for going through the motions with last year's interviewees who didn't really get a fair shake. Morris was one of them too.

I will say whoever they choose needs to be a strong leader. That place needs culture in the worst way.

Local sports radio here thinks they should hire Byron Leftwich. Keep in mind that he used to play for the jags.

Khan is likely to just let his son guess at the next hire again though. That's how he decided on Liar. So... there's a very good chance that the clown show will continue. That franchise is doomed.

look at the lions with caldwell in charge and look at them as soon as they dumped him for no reason.

look at their season records this century. they have 4 winning seasons. 3 of them was when caldwell was the coach in his 4 year tenure.

he seems to be the perfect coach for a downtrodden franchise. sort of like fisher was for the rams before they hired a great, great coach except caldwell can actually produce results where fisher couldn't.

14 and 2 then 10 and 6 with the colts until the owner threw him under the bus when he got a hard on for luck and made him coach for a year with a painter as the qb. 2 and 14. then fired him. the drunk, drugged up jerk.

I would pass on Caldwell IMO he’s a little long in the tooth at 66. Pederson or Byron Leftwich would make total sense IMO.

Man - lotta' vitriol for Meyer. Was not aware he was so universally despised. Don't really care one way or another, just noticing.

Anyway, not the reason for the post: as others have alluded to, it's the franchise that's fucked up, always has been and always will be, and the reason is simple. Management
That's why, imo, the Raiders, Lions, Browns, Jags, Jets, Dolphins, Redskins, Texans, Bengals, Chargers etc. will always be losers.

Notice how Seattle has fallen off since Paul Allen died?

And this is all to say, thank whatever you believe in that Stan bought this team

AMEN.

All of them were better options.
Better options to do what? Win 4 games instead of 2? Urban Meyer is a prick but there isn’t one guy on that list that has his resume of success.

My point was that Adam makes it sound like Jacksonville passed on the next Belechick to replace Meyers-don’t see that guy on that list.

His resume of success in the NFL? College is great and all but Urban hasn't done jack nor shit in the NFL and it appears he won't either. Every one of those guys on the list still has his locker room following him and hasn't alienated the rest of his coaches the locker room the media the fans nor the owner.

Salah also has a rookie QB, a bad bad bad roster is in arguably a better division and has one more win and people weren't calling for him to be fired in the middle of season.

Arthur Smith has just as bad of a roster and an aging QB who's at the end of his run and has twice as many wins and still has an outside chance at the playoffs.

We'll see about Bienemy if he gets a chance but Morris has been bad in the NFL yet still better than what we saw from Urban. Urban's college success means jack and shit, if anything his college record is what did him in for failure in the NFL and I'd be shocked if he gets another chance. Looks like he'll retire with a 2-11 career record and had his team as the 2nd worst in the NFL.
