With Gilmore and Wagner, it changes how Morris can play his defense. We could be looking at a base nickel with a two-deep shell.

Gilmore and Ramsey locking down the boundary WRs in man coverage.
Fuller and Burgess playing the two-deep shell
Rapp in the mid-range zone
Wagner and Jones in the short zone
DL: Floyd, AD, Gaines, Lewis/Hollins

Rapp plays in the box before the snap giving a 7 man box look before dropping into the middle midrange zone if he reads pass. This is the way to play Rapp. It's how Wade Phillips played him and how he was played at UW. He's very good at making quick reads. Both Wagner and Jones are very good as 5th man blitzers or flowing to the POA on a run. Remember Rapp was also strong doing that under Wade Phillips as he is that hybrid ILB/SS. If it's a pass, then both Wagner and Jones are good playing the short zone to take away those quick passes that guys like Murray love.

Gilmore is a complementary piece, not a make or break. It would give them another year perhaps two to develop Rochell who got derailed by injury last season. Wagner IMO was a much more impactful signing. Morris can still play his preferred two-deep shell with Rochell as he would probably have help over the top.

If they want a true impact player they need to make a trade for Hunter. If it means including Lewis I'd do it because Hunter is proven and Lewis is potential.

Gilmore is good, no doubt. But he's not what he was. And he's missed a lot of time. Mathieu has missed 1 game since '17. Availability is a great trait.
Yeah that's the risk you take with Gilmore but he was still ranked in the top 10 of CBs last year if I'm not mistaken. I think it's smart to take a risk on a game changer like him. I gotta imagine he was using last year to get healthy because before that, he wasn't super injury prone. Same thing coulda been said about OBJ injury wise but he turned out to be awesome for us. Either way, I'd honestly be ok with either but just prefer Gilmore.

I'm in the same point. I'd take either or both, I just prefer the game breaking ability of Mathieu.

Kool-Aid better not pony up bucks for him. Rams probably have him about ready to sign that short term deal. :laugh3:

Not sure how you don't take a chance on this if the price is right considering how young our secondary is behind Ramsey

“If the price is right” is the key. The Rams will not and can not overpay or match the best offers for coveted remaining FAs. What they can offer is an opportunity to succeed, a stellar culture, proven coaching, SoFi stadium, sunny And vibrant LA, and opportunities for endorsements. For some ($$$$ on any team > $$$ + what Rams offer) but for others they will be interested in what the Rams offer.

Yes that's true but we got Wagner even though we weren't the highest bidder and he had a ring already as well. Hopefully our pitch wins out again and Gilmore recognizes his best shot at a ring is with the Rams.

With our pass rush and Ramsey on the opposite side, Gilmore will see alot of rushed passes thrown his way as he covers the other team's 2nd receiver. I like that situation.

Im iffy on Gilmore because 1) his best years are behind 2) he's a man cover corner coming to a zone coverage team 3) will command more $$$ than Honey Badger due to his position 4) I like Rochelle....

I'd rather have Clowney than Honey Badger/Hicks/Gilmore...but also, what the fuck do I know? I certainly wouldn't be upset if we end up getting any combo of Gilmore, Badger, or Hicks. I'm just praying Rams add more pass rushers...

Sounds like Jim Irsay flew his private jet to pick Gilmore up. They're a strong team and have a boat load of money to throw at him.
