I could see a scenario in which we bring him in to finish the season AND to back up Stafford next year (no, I don’t think he is retiring).

Plus, keeps the 49ers from getting him to replace JimmyG!

Hell yeah, I'm interested! He's a starting quarterback when at his best (and as much as @oldnotdead says otherwise, he's an upgrade over Perkins and especially Wolford.)

Oh, and @AvengerRam where's your Twenty Points for this week? :p ;)

I don't think he is an upgrade to Purdy, much less Jimmy Gonorrhea..

I'd like to see what McVay could get out of him though...I am plenty done with the Wolford experience...

Don't think THEY'D do it, given McVay's praise for Wolfie.

But I'd do it in a heartbeat. I'd waive Wolfie and have Mayfield start the rest of the year to see if he can be our backup of the future, and potential QB1 replacement if he flourishes in the offense and Stafford moves on.

We can't ignore the severity of Stafford's injury; it's not something one comes back from easily. We absolutely have to prepare as if he's retiring - if not this year, then definitely the following year - so having a bridge quarterback who can help win games with the talent we have - someone like Mayfield - to guide us until we find a suitable young quarterback in a draft.

I read somewhere recently that Coach Mac REALLY liked Mayfield coming out of college. I'd be willing to bet that Sean believes enough in his coaching abilities to get the most out of Baker that nobody else has to date.
I'm all in; let's go get him.

We better. Spinal Contusions take a minimum of six months to recover. Most people up to a year. Back to playing football…*shrugs*

We might not have Stafford next year regardless of retirement or not. Baker can be a decent placeholder while the Rams figure some stuff out

Hell yes I would. He has an arm, can move outside the pocket, and has ok accuracy. His main problem has always been his vision. But given that the offense McVay wants to use is one that requires a QB who can throw farther than 20 yards and we don't have one on the roster who can do that I'd say go for it. At worst, he plays decent ball, falls in love with being here, and accepts a backup QB contract to sit behind Stafford next year and we have an insurance policy in case Stafford can't go. I'm not a Mayfield fan at all and don't see him being a starter I'd want full time but he's heads and shoulders better than what we have.

Agree and who knows, maybe our system will be the perfect one for Baker and him and McVay will really mesh and he plays way better than anyone could predict

We all should just praise the good Lord that we won it all last yr. Imagine where we would all be mentally had they lost that Tampa game and now all this shit happened and we were left with possibly Baker Mayfield and a 2nd or 3rd round rookie next yr?

We would be jumping off bridges especially with Detroit's decent success with Goff this yr.

I saw on Twitter that we are 4th in the waiver wire so we should have the opportunity to get him

Yeah wasn't sure since we're tied with Broncos at the moment how we'd be sorted with them. So worst case we have Texans, Bears, and Broncos in front of us. In that scenario Texans would be only worry since I couldn't see Bears and Broncos taking him.

Yes, grab him up and see what he's got. He won't be able to start by Thursday, but he will have 10 days after that to get ready
