I never had problems with Higbee other than he seemed to drop contested passes frequently. He caught everything else thrown to him.

I just felt the contract to him was too high since he was primarily a blocking tight end.

Good thing I was wrong about him finally becoming a pass receiving tight end as well as a blocking tight end.

With him, we will continue to have a good to very good passing offense (sometimes great).

We just need to add a key player on the offensive line (center) and we will be back in business. I would trade up to get the best center in the draft if possible. Maybe Reynolds and a second to get a first round pick? (I just wish we could trade Cooks instead but his contract makes in unfeasible.)

I am also worried that we may or may not have a left tackle on our team yet if Whitworth goes somewhere else. And Whitworth may regress even further if he does come back. I think we have capable players at all the other OL positions.

Rams need to get back to being more physical on offense. It starts with the OLine and the TE's and onto the running game.
Higbee and the young guys up front stepping up was a good sign in that direction. Everett will truck defenders too.

Put me on the list of people that didn't like the contract we gave him. But put me on the list of people that were very pleased to see how he played the second half of this season. He's no Kettle or Kelce, but he's no JAG either.

One of the bright spots going into 2020. Projected for a monster year.

I think he has a chance to crack 1000 yards.

@Mojo Ram I agree with you and I think next year the OL will be improved. I'd love to see more 2 TE sets. Especially with Higbee in the slot..........a DB can't cover him one on one because of his height and neither can a LB. He's too good of a route runner, not many LB's will be able to stick to him.

And the last game of the year, he was 16 yards shy of setting an all time NFL record For 5 straight 100 yards receiving games for a TE.

He really came on this year. His body language, and intensity went up a notch. Loved watching the guy start "feeling it".

I was mad he didn't get that last 16 yards! Sigh...

Think it was that one drop he had that cost him that record.

I agree that improving the center position would be a wise move, and trading Cooks to do it would be ideal, but I don’t want to move Reynolds. With Cooks’ concussion history, trading Reynolds would make a strength of the Rams a weakness. If Cooks gets another concussion, and Reynolds has been traded, the Rams depth at WR is gone. As long as there is uncertainty with Cooks, then Reynolds’ value to the Rams is even greater. I like the idea of getting a good center, whether through a draft choice, a trade for an NFL starter, but not at the expense of Reynolds.

I don't think we can count it as a drop - wasn't Goff's fault either - good coverage - but it was too far for Higbee to realistically be expected to catch it.

There was one that was for a damn near 5 yards or so passed the sticks that hit him in the hands that he dropped. I remember thinking when it happened that could cost him his 100 yards game. Wish I had the game to take a still.

I thought long and hard on that too. But sometimes a sacrifice is in order to make the team better and Reynolds is that sacrifice. I like Reynolds but I think a late round draft pick or UDFA can adequately replace him if Cooks goes down in order for the offensive line be dramatically improved with a kick ass center. Plus I think if Cooks goes down, McVay would use the 12 personnel more with Higbee and Everett.

Who’s closest to getting a new contract? Little or Bosa?

Kittle. He's a stupid steal right now. He was a 5th round pick in 2017 and thus they'll have to extend him or resign him this off-season as he becomes a FA after the 2020 season.

He's the best TE in the game and he's gonna wanna set records with his contract. And considering the 9ers cap situation, I'd be pushing like mad as his agent for a big resign, not extension since the 9ers will likely be under the cap next year. Hopefully, they're stupid and extend him and push a bunch of money later...

Bosa's a rookie. I got his draft year mixed up with one of his siblings.

Their cap situation is actually pretty good. They had a ton of dead money this season from Pierre Garcon and other than Matt Breida, I don't see their FA situation being tough.

Thing is that it's gonna start with Kittle and over the next few years, their rookies/2nd year players are gonna need to be paid. After a year or two, their cap is gonna look way different.

Garoppolo's cap hit jumps $7M next season.

So I guess I have to back it up a year.

The next two years look really good for them cap wise... then... the fruits of drafting well come to bear.

Right now, they don't have tons of FAs and they can either stay safe and bring in no FAs or if they do, they'll accelerate into a much tougher cap management situation like we're in now that much sooner. As it is, when you couple Kittle's new contract with Jimmy G's increase, they're already using up what they have left. They still probably want to keep Breida who's a FA and they've got some others to sign, so they're not in as good a shape as it may look on the surface.

It'll be worse for them if they try to kick the can down the road.

Kittle is about to break the bank on the whiners followed and accompanied by a few defensive players.

Niner's early exit from the playoffs will pay off big for little Kittle!

We should be comparing Kittle to Everett rather than Higbee. Like Everett, Kittle is a potential 2021 free agent, Kittle was drafted in the 5'th, Everett in the 2'nd. Both were taken in 2017.
Did our scouts and Snead miss on this one, or does Everett catch on fire for 2020 ?
Who do you think gets the bigger 2021 contract ?

I'd go the other direction. Reynolds is on a rookie contract. I'd trade Robert Woods. Obviously, we'd all prefer to move Cooks over Woods, but his contract and coming off a down year make that highly unlikely. With Higbee's breakout and increased 12 personnel, it makes sense to trade one of our top 3 WRs. Kupp is off limits for obvious reasons, and I don't see Cooks bringing back anything of worth right now. Thus, Woods is the guy most likely to get us decent compensation (I think a 3rd round pick plus something else) in a trade.
