Don’t get me wrong. I love Kupp and Woods. But the Wr core is missing that speed threat to blow the top off of defense. With Ross then Woods and Kupp can feast on the short passes. The last 3yrs McVay had Cooks and Watkins as the deep threats. Now defenses are not concerned about us going over the top and that’s why Goff is pushing the ball downfield like he use too. If we can trade Reynolds straight up for Ross I would pull the trigger on that trade.

I posted the very same thing twice during the game thread for those reasons. I want this to happen badly. He could.be had on the cheap. Glad you posted this. I must confess at first glance I thought it had actually happened lol.

I would pass on Ross. He's never struck me as a very good WR. Not very good at running routes, making contested catches, blocking, mediocire hands, etc. He's extremely fast. But if we want someone to stretch the field, I'd prefer we find someone that brings at least one or two other positive qualities, beyond his speed. I'd wait until the off-season to address this need, be it via free agency or the draft.

And I am not convinced Van Jefferson cannot be used as a deep threat. He seems pretty fast out there?

I hear you but he comes cheap and just his speed alone on this type of team is dangerous. Even as a decoy you have to respect his speed. He is more useful to us than Reynolds based on his speed alone. You can't really go for a will fuller to much money and also then blocking Jefferson eventually. Ross is a good cheap in season get. Love to hear if you have a couple of others you would target.

I'd simply like to see Jefferson start over Reynolds. Jefferson ran what, 4.45? He's not an explosive guy but he's sneaky fast.

We don't get Higbee and Jefferson enough targets as it is IMO why would we add another WR, one who's struggled on the field if he's even able to get on the field. Pass

More or less it's to allow us to get our guys we actually want to get open get open. Having him out there the defense must respect his speed it opens up some space elsewhere especially in the middle of the field.
Even if you just send the dude on go routes lol that alone helps open some things up.
As well having less congestion around our top guys. It allows goff to maybe get rid of the ball quicker as opposed to holding onto it to long because his guys are a bit more open. Same thing cooks did but for 1/8 of the price. I am not saying he will post cooks numbers but same idea. Even though cooks was overpaid he still allowed some of our guys to roam free for chunk plays because defense had to respect his speed.

Hopefully, Jefferson is ready to take on a larger roll.
I know it isn't easy for rookie WRs, but he'd be a blessing for this offense down the stretch.

Kupp and Woods have both looked marginal since they signed their contracts. So far, the only guys earning their money with the recent contract signings play on defense.

In the tradition of Eddie Kennison, Donnie Avery and Tavon Austin . . . yeah, not the kind of tradition I'm looking to continue.

Cooks played in that 2018 game against the Bears and also in the Bowl -- it's not simply having a speed guy running fast to open up the defense.

If a defense is comfortable in having their #3 CB cover a receiver, like Ross, with no safety help, I don't see much opening of a defense. Given what he's done so far, I don't see him warranting more than a #3 CB in man coverage. Having to respect his speed sounds nice, but if the "respect" is just having the #3 CB line up 1-2 yds deeper than normal, it's not really going to be much of a benefit imo.

from the little reading i've done, it looks like Ross might be had for a late draft choice, he's unhappy and so are his coaches. This cat is a flat out burner, as has been said, as a GO route running decoy might just work for us. Was me in control of Rams personnel I would check this out, possibly could be Goff's Tyreek Hill

One thing to note with Ross is that McVay is undoubtedly plugged in to that situation through their head coach. You know these guys talk. Bengals basically run our offense too so chances are whatever his disconnect is with it (probably his route running idk haven't watched any Bungles games) would probably apply to our offense too.

Sometimes guys just end up in the dog house, on the other hand the criticism of his route running sounds remarkably similar to Tavon Austin. I suppose the answer is somewhere in between. One thing for sure though, Cincinnati has no need for Josh Reynolds, not sure any team does.
Either way, at least the trade talk will be over soon

That's why I mentioned Tavon, he had the straight line speed but was not a crisp route runner, couldnt get by press coverage and ultimately couldnt use that speed to an advantage. Not sure what Ross issue is, 4.22 is lightning fast

I am beginning to think Jefferson may have been a mistake considering they decuded to? Xtend Kupp & Woods.

Don't get me wrong, I think he eill be very good, but he is the same guy we have in Kupp and Woods already. We needed to add a more dynamic threat to compliment Woods & Kupp.

So surprised they didn't go for more of a deep threat type even if that guy would not be as polished as Jefferson.

Now maybe they did not originally plan on extending both Woods & Kupp and it just came out that way after they held contract talks with both of those camps.

In any event they need a more dynamic down the field threat that teams fear can run by them. Right now our passing game is pressed up 20 yds or less from the line of scrimmage at best.
