Why, please tell, we’re we not doing something similar? I would be feeling pretty confident in him becoming a better player in our team. Ho hum...

Has our front office gone back packing in Asia for the spring? :)
His cap number is not cheap for an injury prone bust. $5.2M cap number now on the Falcons cap for him. And if they pick up his option I think his cap number jumps considerably in 24'.

A move for him would actually go against everything they have been telling us.

We traded the #2 overall pick for a 6th rounder (Greg Robinson).

Exactly. Why I don't give a shit about the draft anymore.

A pick by the former Patricia regime which was fired shortly thereafter.

Lions have signed three capable new defensive backs and will likely pick up another top prospect cb in the first or second round of the draft. They don't want or need Okudah who was benched in favor a 6th rounder last year.

It appears they hand off half of his $10m+ 2023 contract to the Falcons. Lions certainly weren't going to pick up his 5th year for $11m+.

Like the Rams, cutting a loss and gaining some cap.

It was really for the Rams getting a 3rd for JR but OK. Shows how overvalued every player is by fans.

Seems like good deal to me. If I was the Rams I would have done that no matter what his injury history was. He played most of last year and was doing good in the 1st half of the season.

People forget Detroit was terrible as a defense last year. How that impacts Okudah, he must have played each play longer because obviously the DLine wasnt getting enough pressure. Sure there were other factors.

We lost our entire starting secondary excluding Durant this offseason. Our secondary is the weakest by far in the NFL. They are going to get slaughtered with no Wagner, AShawn, Gaines, Floyd and no guidance from two vets in Hill and Ramsey just you all wait this will be the #1 issue we will all be complaining about next season - more than the pass rush - more than the shitty OL. Our secondary is going to get murdered. Okudah would have brought some stability and for a 5th rounder which we have 3 this draft. I highly doubt whoever we draft 8n any of the 3 5th rounders will match Okudah in terms of talent and instant jump in and get the job done.

I think you will see our roster fill out after the draft. For now, I feel like they want complete flexibility to draft anyone at any desired position and then fill in with cheaper FA's

I tend to agree with Malibu’s post above. Will Okudah outplay anyone we draft in round 5 back? I think it’s a likely yes. Going back to his college tape, a change of scenery might be the tonic but let’s wait and see

We're gonna see if Jerry Gray can get him going. I do like their new DC hire btw, but he's a DL source positional coach so this one will be all about whether Jerry can tap into his talent.
Yeah. Don’t know about that trade ? Meaning when Jerry Gray was returning punts & Kick offs for The Rams & an excellent CB .

Let’s see what he learned from Joe Barry. Something happened to Joe Barry & Herry Gray took over calling the plays as DC.

I blame Aaron Glenn on this one. Jeff Okudah has the talent and traits you want in a man coverage heavy scheme. He struggles in zone. It wouldn't surprise me if Okudah blossoms elsewhere. That said there were traits that might have surfaced in his play that turned the Lions off. He struggled to recognize more sophisticated route combinations in college so that would be an issue in the pros in man coverage. And Glenn prefers zone schemes and Okudah isn't a zone CB.

Aubrey would know that and knows Morris plays more zone than any DC in the NFL and by a wide margin. Pleasant would know that Okudah wouldn't be a scheme fit here.

I don't recall Jerry Gray returning kicks and punts. LeRoy Irvin did and was a pro bowl punt returner one year, but I don't remember Gray being a returner.

Your recollection is correct. Jerry Gray was not a punt or kick-off returner.

Well , there you go. I do a lot of free-style. He only played 1 year in Houston. My guess is I liked him as a PR guy. Might have been rookie preseason?

He only returned to punts in his career. 1 return for 9 yards & never returned kickoffs.

For some reason there is player that Comes to mind which is not Leroy Irvining. My brain though has those holes.I do remember his time though as a Ram & thought he was a nice draft pick ? - thanks for calling me out.

Imo- Jerry gray will do a nice job as dc.He’s been at it awhile.

Thanks for the fact check

Was there an ex-ram with the Oilers that did return punts ?

Must have been Mel Gray who was a solid KR guy in that era.

Aaron Glenn had the Lions playing the 2nd most man coverage schemes in the NFL last year. I just can't...

Yes, I understand that WestCoast, but if your technique is poor you are gonna get burned repeatedly. Understanding route concepts is a must if you are going to mirror a WR in man coverage. Boundary CB is exceedingly technique intensive it's why it takes a couple of years for even a good CB to develop into a shutdown CB.

I remember an interview with CB Quentin Jammer (SD Chargers) where he recounted just how different the college game was vs the NFL for a CB. He made the comment if your technique is off you've lost before the snap when you are in man coverage. Patricia is a huge proponent of man coverage and there is a greater learning curve for rookies in that scheme. The problem with Okudah is he's been plagued by injuries and hasn't been able to play and practice enough to develop the skills he needs at this level.

Okudah came in as a rookie with that issue. It was felt that with good coaching and practice, he could develop into an elite CB with his skillset. But good CBs need a good brain between the ears, and the right temperament to be successful in the NFL at CB. But his lack of availability is what destroyed his career in Detroit. IMO that injury history and his lack of development because of it, is a big part of why the trade comp was so low

Maybe you were thinking of Drew Hill.

Back-up WR with the Rams but a productive Kick-off return man.

Traded to the Houston Oilers and had Pro Bowl seasons as part of their Run-and-Shoot offense.

Sadly, Drew Hill passed-away in his 50s.

Yeah , I think your right. He was one of my favorite players.

I saw Tony Hill play QB in High School. Then Drew Pearson was also a Cowboy.
Always thought The Rams had the best of both. They were all in that same era. Sad he passed so early

Billy Waddy #50 overall or Tony Hill #62 ? I always liked Tony Hill
and Stanford grad.

What an excellent draft - some of my favorite players drafted in 1977 though.
Vince Ferragamo’s brother was a local favorite.Banning High School was another Top LA football machine.
—Going to Nebraska was a big deal.
