I think the team wanted to free up the cap space. Which is fine, if you don't squander it. It feels like as of late the Rams have not been making the most out of the cap dollars they spend. Jonah Jackson. Allen Robinson. Colby Parkinson. Darius Williams has been meh. Same with Shelton. We used to be incredible at pro level scouting and spending, but it seems that has taken a step back lately, thankfully not sacrificing our ability to compete, because our drafting has been so good. And every team has some "misses". But there is no real use trading an aging and declining, and therefore overpaid, but still quite useful CB, when CB is a big team need, if you are just going to throw the money away anyway. We particularly could use a lengthier CBs, and one that can tackle. Our CB room is small and often whiffs. The secondary is generally young and could use some vet leadership and swagger too... in short, it could use a Jalen Ramsey.

Don't get me wrong, I am hardly crying about Ramsey being gone. I think we got his best years and moved on at the right time. He was getting burned way too often in his last year as a Ram. But when you see several contracts we have handed out since and at the same time look at what our team needs are..... eh... it would have been better to keep Ramsey and find the savings elsewhere. You cannot tell me he would not be CB1 on this roster right now. Maybe CB2 once Spoon comes back, but even then I don't think so.

I'll all for trading for CB, but not sure there are any we can realistically get. Browns have some hope now that Flacco is benched and they will only win behind their great D.

Someone should have just overruled McVay and taking Will Johnson. He's honestly perfect for us.

Kris Abrams-Draine of the Broncos, please! We need a Mizzou player now that Schrader's somewhere else, and he's an excellent nickel cornerback! :D

If it comes down to it, I'd give up our first and keep the Falcons.

Obviously I'd rather we keep those and give up a 2nd or a 3rd instead - but if it comes down to it, we MUST upgrade that position. Its bad enough that we would likely need to spend a first on it anyways.

This is made even more urgent by the fact that there are no dominant teams this season. Nobody looks unbeatable. The best team in the league is probably Detroit, and they got smacked in week one.

So not only is this Stafford's potentially last and best season - but the league is wide open. We have to strike while the iron is hot here

Merlin:
You had me at “sombishes”.:laugh4:
I’m going to steal that for future writings.

…but remember when it was pre-draft time and mocks were being posted? One thing was clear:
The Rams needed a young CB, preferably with size. Not only were DW and Witherspoon getting older, but we had several DBs in contract years and they had yet to have a convincing season.
I even joked that there was a particular player who seemed to find his way into more mocks than not. He went to another team.

The Rams seem to have a blind spot when it comes to CBs. Neither Witherspoon nor DW were drafted by the Rams, and they are currently starting another. Conversely, the players they HAVE drafted have yet to get a 2nd contract. Durant will be next up for an extension. I haven’t seen it.

It looks to me as if the Rams gambled on their pass rush compensating for the secondary. It’s not working yet, and won’t as long as teams dink and dunk us.

ROD was so sure about getting a CB in the draft or a #1 CB in FA.
annnnd then we didn't.
It's feeling a lot like that right now, lol.
I don't think the Rams realized just how important witherspoon was to that secondary.

They probably knew better than we did, hence not making any other moves (i.e. he is good enough to hold it down). Its not reasonable to have starting caliber backups everywhere

We need a corner but who's really gonna trade us a good one though? I know many people may not want to hear it but we whiffed on getting Ramsey. I know he's not the same stud we had before but he's a whole lot fuckin better than the shit we've had on the field this year.
First, I will go on record that I did NOT want to give up the necessary resources to bring back ramsey.
…but the Rams could be, and are, in worse shape. Ramsey would at least have brought hitting/tackling to the position, as well as a certain amount of cache that might have discouraged some of the all out disrespect and bravery our opponents have shown towards our secondary.

Just looked and only name I saw that I wouldn't mind trading for.....Trevon Diggs. Problem with that would be the compensation. Shit the options are start shit honestly. Think the Rams made a huge mistake not trying to improve the secondary. Everyone knew it was a weakness.
“EVERYONE”!
It was stated in a variety of ways from:
“I hate kendrick.”
“DW and Witherspoon are getting up there. When will their wheels show their age?”
“The Rams are going to have a bunch of guys coming up for a new contract.”
Or how about he really overt position of:
“Draft a CB.”

…but what do we know? With the players the Rams have on that frontline? They’re still gonna take 7 step drops and hope their OL holds up.

Yeah right. That’s EXACTLY what the 9ers did.

I just saw that PPF had Kendricks listed as the #1 CB in the NFL. I know PFF is a joke, but all the same, this is hard to see right now with the state of the Rams CB room.

PFF is a joke.

And aside from that, it was obviously a wake-up call to Kendrick. He would've never done that with us because he's an idiotic bonehead who never got it until he was cut.

The season is young. Ferguson might prove useful yet. But you are right, as of now, it seems CB or o-line would have been a better choice.

He's also not starting and only playing about 35% of Seattle's defensive snaps. So they certainly aren't treating him like he's a stud CB lol.
