Well, he already is guaranteed $13.7M this year. So any bonus would add to that. The purpose of the bonus is to guarantee money in case of injury. Well, he has that with the $100M guarantee starting next year.I would be surprised if that was the case

I don't believe a signing bonus for the extension will impact the Rams 2026 Salary Cap because that bonus is for a contract that begins in 2027.
Agree 100%It's a signing bonus, which means he gets it when he signed the contract.
Don't think so. Could be wrong.Which is now. So it should impact the cap this season.
Agree 100%

Think McDuffie plays in 2026 on his 5th-year-option, with a $13.6M salary. That's the '26 cap hit to the Rams.
McDuffie will ALSO get a Signing Bonus in the next week or so for signing a four-year extension that applies from 2027 through 2030. THAT Signing Bonus (paid and received in 2026) will be pro-rated (for salary cap purposes) over the life of the contract (2027-2030).
That's where we disagree. I think it's pro-rated from '27-'30 but I am not certain. But he's getting the money now, which means it will be pro rated from 26-30.
AgreeI guess we'll find out when the terms of the contract are published.
Exactly. If he receives it now, it counts now. At least a pro rated amount over the length of the contract. Thats why it's being called an extension to this year. I assume he is fine with his $13.7M now and the fact that he is inline for $100M guaranteed no matter what happens this year. It's a signing bonus, which means he gets it when he signed the contract. Which is now. So it should impact the cap this season.
.
Think about how it could be abused if you could pay a guy a bonus now that wouldn't count until next year. If he gets it now it counts now. That's where we disagree. I think it's pro-rated from '27-'30 but I am not certain.
Agree

Article 13, Section 6 | NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) | Over The Cap
NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement | Over the Capoverthecap.com
Any signing bonus given in connection with a contract extension entered into before the expiration of the player’s existing contract will be prorated over the remaining years of the unexpired contract together with its extension. The player shall receive such a signing bonus at the time that the extension is executed, unless the player expressly agrees in the contract to defer payment of the extension bonus, in which case only the present value of the deferred payment, calculated using the Discount Rate, shall be prorated (unless the extension is executed within one year of the execution of the contract being extended, in which case the gross amount of the extension bonus shall be prorated).
No problem... you can tell that I am recently retired. I have nothing better to do than to look this crap up hoping to win internet arguments.
