I think Tomlin is a great coach. I just don't know if the message has become stale. I certainly believe being perpetually .500 or just above isn't fan friendly, even when you have a 10 win season from time to time but you always go 1 and done in the postseason. That's like doing just enough to say, "hey we win and we always have a chance for the Superbowl".....not realistically though.

The problem with coaches like Tomlin is that he has to hire a good OC and when he gets one, he ultimately will lose him as the guy leaves to be a HC. Then he has to find another one. Overall though he is obviously outstanding, just in an offensive league, it's tough for defensive coaches to win consistently.
He hasnt lost any OC to a HC job. Arians, Haley and Fichtner were all fired because of Roethlisberger. Canada was a bad hire and so far Arthur Smith is just meh

The Steelers are currently in 1st place in their division..... so what's the problem?
No problem. It's a discussion. About no losing seasons, annually around 8-8 to 9-8 with the 10 win season sprinkled in every so often and the one and done every time they get in the postseason. Did you have something to add?

Nah...

I'll move my attention to what the Rams need to do to beat the Lions...... Oh and finishing my Christmas list so I can get it mailed to Santa in time..... been wanting a duncan butterfly yo-yo for some reason

They haven’t won a playoff game since the 2016 season. And they probably won’t win one this year. That’s a long drought for an organization like Pittsburgh.

Honestly 90% of the Steelers and Ravens fans in my life are ready to move on from their head coaches. They just think it’s gotten stale, like it did for Andy Reid in Philly.

True in general. However I think the offensive coaches are often lesser quality leaders due to hiring preference promoting them faster.

Also Arthur Smith is a good OC, he just lacks weapons. So their biggest problem has been their drafting.

All that aside what happens if Tomlin can get that defense playing well. Because for now they do have a QB.

Yes, there comes a time, no matter the early successes, no matter the number of postseasons, at a certain point it could be said, "you've been here too long and nothing has changed in the last decade. It's the same old, same old with a different cast. We appreciate all that you've done but the house needs to be painted a different color."

I don't follow them, but I see a similar issue in Philly. Siriani isn't a defensive coach, but he does call plays and in reality diesnt see to be an offensive scheming mastermind either. So they lose OC's after good sessions, then they struggle to replace them. Harbaugh has had similar issues.

As for Tomlin, and including Harbaugh, maybe they also have a tough time identifying good offensive coaches since they themselves are not coaching on that side of the ball. Thus they tend to go through them, firing them etc...

I just recall Whisenhunt leaving Pittsburgh, but I guess that was under Cowher.

Ok. That’s pretty funny. That way when someone asks you what you’re doing, you can just tell them you’re walking the dog.
:laugh1:

When I'm in the studio recording, I have a rubiks cube or a slinky I play around with when coming up with ideas for commercial jingles... I thought by adding a yo-yo would help with that.

I have always liked little trinkets and toys.... Something I haven't grown out of yet..... This is my gig-room, and I've added more stuff since the below pic.

Here's an amusing article written back in 2015. Tomlin is the only one still standing on the sidelines. Ironically, they went off one by one almost in consecutive years.....after 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019.

The Untouchables

Particularly liked "The team has missed the playoffs just three times since he took over in 2007 but it's beginning to feel like a long time since the Steelers have won a playoff game (Jan. 23, 2011, to be exact). That will not translate to a coaching change anytime soon"

No secret to me I have been seeing him as very overrated for quiet some time.
Pittsburgh so slow to make coaching changes. guess it has worked in past
but this situation is way over due.

I don't see how getting rid of Tomlin will improve things as long as their QB situation remains a problem. I guess maybe it could fix the QB problem because the next HC won't be able to win despite the QB, so the losing will put them in position to draft a top QB. But that won't be because of superior coaching.

Maybe its the front office but i don't understand all questionable players they bring in either.
or how much say Tomlin has.
All I am looking is results. I'm also of the belief that any coach at same place for too long
can make things stale.

Maybe it'll take a coaching change to fix the QB problem. It hasn't been that long since Tomlin won a playoff game (9 years) but it has been a while since winning the SB (17 years). Since then 'only' a dozen head coaches have won it. Payton, Mike McCarthy, Tom Coughlin, John Harbaugh, Pete Carroll, Belichick, Gary Kubiak, Doug Pederson, Andy Reid, Bruce Arians, McVay and Siriani have won it. Half of them are still coaching so........why not keep him around. Never having to go through a losing season probably feels really good. Year after year after year after year.

And that my friends tells the the whole story.^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Would not doubt McVay has lost more coaches to other teams than in
Tomlins 50yr stint
