I like Tom Brady and consider him the greatest QB to play the game.

He's a lousy cheater in my book. He was in on everything with Belocheat. Do you think he didn't realize it was kinda funny the way his offensive coordinator always guessed the right defense the other team employed on every play? He knew everything that was going on.

  1. the lowest point in the fortunes of a person or organization.

Never thought I'd see the day that the words "Tom Brady" would be mentioned on this site so far outside the context of feminine hygiene.

A lousy $24mil? Bah, his wife has more than that sitting outside in her car ashtray, Brady can afford to pee pee that away... Of course if it was the 49ers or Steve Young then I'd think he was getting paid under the table. But the Pats wouldn't cheat like that...

Must be nice having a hot sugar momma (that's dumb as a box of rocks) making loads of cold hard cash. Then you can afford to be nice and take big pay cuts so you can keep winning.

THEORY!

Let's set Sammy Bradford up with a smoking hot super model that's worth more than he is, marry him off to her, and get him to play for the cool league minimum!

I blame Schotty for not doing this already.

Damn, damn, damn, damn, damn.

I envy the Patriots and New England so much. Beautiful stadium, engaged ownership, winning tradition of excellence, and now this crap. It is literally everything we are not, and it makes me want to punch things.
At least we don't cheat to win Super Bowls.

I don't want Sam to take a cut in pay! I want him to redo the contract to be incentive/playing time based! Love to see Sam play 19 games in the season next year! (y)

Keeping in mind that Brady is still going got get all of his money (just dispersed differently) you still have to respect his willingness to adjust his salary downwards.
I don't know of any other "elite" quarterbacks who seem to be willing to do this, as it could be perceived as a sign of disrespect from the organization.

As much as I dislike Brady as a person (whiny douche is putting it mildly), I respect him as a player.

We definitely have the moral high ground.

Unfortunately they have two more Lombardi trophies, and any evidence of cheating to get them was destroyed by the league.
Knowing they won dishonestly is probably punishment enough anyway.

It's in his own best interests...

He can either restructure to his benefit and risk losing some key players who can help him win... or he can restructure to keep those players and maybe win another SB.

Pretty mature to understand that no amount of money will take the sting out of being on a shitty team.

All the patriots have done is make it easier for themselves to restructure and extend brady’s contract before the 2016 or 2017 seasons. Brady got a raise of $1M for each of the next 3 years, and he's not going to play next year at $9M a year no matter what anyone says. By removing his guarantee, they can now designate him a post-June 1 cut, which would give them a meager $6 million in cap charges in both 2016 and 2017. THEN they can re-sign him to a five-year deal through 2020, which would put more money in his pocket in the short term in a signing bonus, but would lower his cap number in 2016 by spreading the bonus out over five years. He did something similar in 2013 by converting his salary into signing bonuses.

It's a business decision that works for everyone. He's not giving money away.

It seems there are some who are under the impression that this somehow means he is getting LESS $$$. It's nothing but a shell game of accounting, moving money around on paper. The salary cap has plenty of loopholes built in to make these types of moves doable for organizations who can get creative enough to use it to their advantage.

Demoff has a done similar things in the past with massaging the cap, to free up $$$. Why this move by the Patriots is that his contract allows for such an enormous number. MOST contracts, including Bradford's remaining year just doesn't meet that number.

But please don't think that this is anything more than Brady "agreeing" to re-categorize how the $$$ looks on paper. He isn't giving up one dime in what he is owed.

They actually didn't change anything for cap purposes. Brady didn't take a pay-cut(I realize, this is what you're saying...I'm just repeating it).

By changing his money from guaranteed fully to guaranteed only for injury, the Patriots do not have to keep his guaranteed money in escrow this off-season which means they have more cash flow. That's the only change in terms of dollars.

The other change is that it makes it easy to cut Brady. But I doubt Brady cares. He'd make more on the open market than he is on his team friendly deal.

Yeah, I wasn't talking about exercising the right to cut him this year (I wasn't clear enough, that's my bad). Either 2016 or 2017 is what I was referring to.

Oh, look. Rational and objective posts about the Patriots and their QB!

You should all get venereal diseases.
(haven't decided on the font color yet)

True.

Brady's smoking hot wife makes 40 million a year. He doesn't need the money. He's just trying to buy championships. What a dirty, cheating, b**** he is. He may fool you guys, he's not fooling me.

And with the AFC sucking, Patriots will ascend to the top for the next few seasons, at least, with a move like this. We must get our ducks in a row to stop them because it's all up to the NFC now.

"Tom Brady blah blah blah blah blah blah"
He's a dick
I hope the article wasnt about him saving a baby or a nun or something
I'll just assume it was about him being a dick

This is in anticipation of the Garoppolo Era. Pats are always one step ahead via smart moves and/or cheating.
