It's 4th and 2:

You have (arguably) the greatest QB in the league

You're defense has just been gashed by the tune of 140+ yards on the last two Seahawks possessions...

ANNNNNDDDD you choose to punt; thus trusting your D more than A-Rod to get 2 yards...lolkden

Let's not forget that he'd already spunked his timeouts, so he couldn't challenge the DROP that never was.

WTF was McCarthy thinking? Dude has never been clutch.

He's fighting for his Green Bay HC life in the next few games.

If you actually pay close attention to the Packers, you'll notice that he's kind of a dick.

If you would rank the four below elite QBs below in terms of likability, I'd have them as so.

Brees
Manning
Rodgers
Brady
I agree, I've.never liked how he has exposed some of his teammates in the past: showing his disgust if some ran a bad route etc.
I think Cowherd put it well in that everyone always gives him a built in excuse if they lose.
I do believe he had pulled out many games for his team and he hasn't always had alot of help.
He has some good receivers right now, defense is playing well. He's banged up, so are alot of players...

Seahawks are better than I thought.
They do this every year. They are the mirror image of KC.

Seattle starts slow and finishes strong.

So glad we tagged them with two L’s. I can see them going 10-6 and taking the 6 seed.

Gotta kill them off when you can.

Too bad McCarthy doesn’t have as much confidence in Rodgers as all the breathless pundits that said he would have driven down and beat us a couple weeks ago.

:sneaky: I wonder who knows him better...
McCarthy is an idiot. Packer fans want him fired.

I just don't understand why some teams are allowed to mug receivers all game, every game.

9-7 seems to be the best bet on the Hawks record. They're 5-5. Of there last 6 games, 3 are Panthers, Vikings & Chiefs. Could lose 2 of those 3 easily. They do catch the Vikings & Chiefs at home though.

Rodgers threw a couple of great passes into some tight windows in the first half. But he also sucked during most of the second half, taking unnecessary sacks and making some awful throws. Yet some were positive he could have beaten the Rams if only for that pesky kickoff fumble near the end of the game.

The Aaron Rodgers Apology Machine Has Been Working Through the Night
By Jerry Thornton

And so Aaron Rodgers career rolls on as it has for the 8 years – eight – since he last won even a conference championship. The Rodgers Apology Machine is firing up its flux capacitor to 1.21 jigowatts and rolling out the excuses of how the Packers lost in spite of his heroic, metahuman efforts.

Last week he got no help from his defense. Last night it was Mike McCarthy’s fault. What’s important now is that all the blood in the water right now is coming from McCarthy and the sharks are utterly ignoring this second half performance by Captain Comeback:

Rodgers.jpg

And the fact that there was a dramatic 4th quarter comeback, but it was by Russell Wilson, the 16th of his career. Which moves him ahead of guys like Troy Aikman, Terry Bradshaw, Bob Griese and Joe Namath on the all time list. Where was Aaron Rodgers rank on that list? I’m glad you asked:

Rodgers2.jpg

Rodgers3.jpg

So yeah, the Greatest Passer Ever had a couple of cracks at breaking that tie with Ryan Tannehill in this all important category and couldn’t pull it out, but that’s all on McCarthy.

Short-hopping an open man at the sticks on a crucial 3rd & 2 is not a sign of a quarterback in decline. That’s not us witnessing someone’s career going off a cliff. Father Time isn’t defeating Aaron Rodgers. Mike McCarthy is. Got it? Good. Glad we settled that.

So the Packers, despite having the Best There Ever Was at by far the most impactful position in all of team sports, have like a 30 percent chance of even making the playoffs. And even though ARod gets the Quarterback Matchup checkmark every time he steps onto the field against a mere mortal, this is his record on the season:

View: https://twitter.com/ColinCowherd/status/1063285438788431872?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1063285438788431872&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.barstoolsports.com%2Fboston%2Fthe-aaron-rodgers-apology-machine-has-been-working-through-the-night%2F

But it’s not his fault, it’s everybody else’s. Are we clear on that?

Finally, I’m just going to leave this here:

Plenty of people were ready to see Mike McCarthy fired after Packers' loss to Seahawks

By nearly all accounts, Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy had a brutal game on Thursday against the Seattle Seahawks.

Whether it was failing to mount a challenge against Tyler Lockett’s “catch,” giving budding star Aaron Jones only six touches in the second half, some adventurous timeout management or the decision to punt 4th and 2 on Green Bay’s final possession, McCarthy’s detractors had plenty to point to as the Packers lost 27-24 and fell to 4-5-1.

Here’s the best the internet had to offer following the end of the game.

Twitter fires up the hot seat for Mike McCarthy

For many, no moment symbolized what McCarthy cost the Packers more than that decision to not go for it on 4th and 2. Armed with one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history in Aaron Rodgers and needing only two yards, McCarthy instead placed his faith in a defense that had given up 147 yards in the Seahawks’ previous two possessions.

Compounding the consequences was McCarthy only having one timeout remaining with four minutes left on the clock, meaning that only a few well-timed first downs would be enough to ice the game. Which the Seahawks quickly did.

The whole sequence of events were infuriating for many:

why is it that the packers fall short every time? are the receivers not getting open? every sack rodgers had time to throw then pulled it back and ran. something's not right with that team.

.

well, this right here explains part of it.

View: https://twitter.com/Charlu19/status/1063308727112093696

as the article posted by primetime above states, rodgers for some reason has to go for the big play when the pressure is on at the end of games. take the checkdown then go again. like i said, all his sacks were him holding onto the ball and running instead of the pass rush getting to him too quickly.

Wasn't Mike Holmgren shown in the booth during that game? He's a former Packers HC, and a very successful one at that. He would probably take the job even at 70 years old.
