I think Hopkins compares well with those guys athletically, but that's where it ends.
His blocking and hands were not good.
Like @Merlin , I am hopeful. Very hopeful.
I think we will find out draft day, just how much he has progressed.
Higbee would play the Hockenson roll, while Hopkins would play the Jesse James role. Besides Hockenson Detroit wasn’t deep in the TE department.

Wouldn't that be amazing. Have we even had a 1k yard TE? Can't recall what our yardage record for the position was, only that it was depressing. :ROFLMAO:
The end of the 2019 season, Higbee had a string of games that single-handedly won me my Fantasy League SB. Nobody better in the NFL during that stretch and it wasn't close.

So we KNOW it's possible.

Hockenson sure makes a good case for Stafford. Lot of respect there.
Between Hockenson and Ragnow's statements, it says so much about the player were getting.
I absolutely love the fact that he is constantly teaching, coaching.

This is why I feel we could bring in a rookie center. Stafford's another coach on the field
and will absolutely know all the line calls as well as everyone else's responsibilities.
That's just who he is. IMHO He is going to raise the level of play of everyone around him.

Man... a stud receiving threat at TE would really juice this offense. Exploit matchups, etc.

Can Higbee be that? Feels we need another in the mix here. Hopkins is a big unknown.

Yea it would. Crazy to me Kittle was a 5th round pick. Everyone thinks Hopkins isnt any good because he didn't see the field as a rookie, but he had two proven vets ahead of him. His college tape shows an impressive receiving TE, so I hope he gets a lot of playing time this year. Stafford likes throwing to his TEs. All that being said I've heard we're in the mix for Ertz as well so we'll see what happens.

It's bizarre how Detroit has handled the TE position over the years. They let Ebron walk, and Logan Thomas showed he could play too. But both sent packing

Well, Hopkins is a big unknown to us fans, but I’m sure McVay knows him, and like another poster said, if we draft a TE this year, you will have your answer about what McVay thinks.

Hopkins is nothing but a receiving TE so if McVay has confidence in him he could be a huge part of this offense. If DJack can stay healthy or we add another top burner in the draft our TEs/Kupp/Woods are going to feast this year.

I don't want to be a naysayer about Hopkins, but the dude didn't even break into the lineup. I consider our TE as middle of the NFL so why couldn't he break through. Fuller broke through and he was a 6th rounder.
I agree. It's really crazy under the circumstances. As much as I'd be happy if Hopkins plays well this season, it would at the same time raise the question of, if he was this good, why didnt he play last year??
