In the end don’t care what the owners are ok with. They hire a front office and the front office hires a coach. They build and manage the team. Those people either through negligence or by turning a blind eye allowed players to violate the Covid protocol. They were told they cannot have practices by the league and the players organized them anyways knowing they shouldn’t. In the end the player who organized them is responsible for the bigger mess that this became. The coaches front office and in the end the owners are responsible to make sure the players and organization follow the rules. They failed in this and should face consequences, I’d say the same if it was the Rams.

Coaches failed to wear masks as they were supposed to and in the end the team and coaches paid fines. This is a much bigger deal than that and I can’t see how this is any different, in fact it’s worse imo.
Well that's great that you feel that way, unfortunately the Owners and Players have a CBA to work things like this out. They have defined penalties for breaking protocol. If the game isnt played due to Covid, the Owners will likely invoke the Covid rules. Why wouldn't they? They arent earning revenue if the games arent being played.
Maybe there is a provision in the CBA that covers it, I havent read thru it to find out, and frankly Im not going to

In every single contract there's a little phrase "detrimental to the team" Same holds true for Coaches GM's and the leagues owners can absolutely allow Goodell to impose fines on one of it's other owners. Also don't worry reading thru it I think I found the applicable section.

Looks like the players lose out on paychecks if a game has to be cancelled.

I think forfeiting games is not an option!

How many people are going to be happy if Seattle plays 2 less games than us, because they had teams forfeit to them?
Teams should be able to bring up players from PS to fill out their game day roster. Forfeiture should be a last resort, but I do agree it would suck for a team to get the top seed by 1 game after having 2 teams on their schedule forfeit.

The whole thing is whacky, and not that the Pats deserve anything but why did they have to play minus their QB but teams with multiple players testing positive get rewarded with postponed games?

They can bring up players from PS, in as little as 90 minutes before a game.

Yeah, I am surprised there hasn’t been more dust up on that.

Maybe since the whole Titans situation is still open, it’s quiet.

I think just because they had no new positive tests within a time before the game took place where the Titans have been a steady stream of a player or staff every day or every other day it seems. If it had been a couple players the first time they had a positive and then had no new positives after that they would have played their game without those two players basically.

It's a game of attrition and luck at this point for the NFL. They can do everything right and it might still blow up in their face. Teams and fans need to accept that their team might get screwed over by choices that have to be made in order to have a season actually happen. There's going to be no way to make it 100% fair for everyone involved across the league.

Like I said, in no way do I want to defend the Patriots in any way, screw them. Just seems crazy that he tests positive 2 days before the game and they have to play without him but if 1 or 2 other guys also test positive, then they get to postpone the game. Wouldnt put it past Belechick to have a couple of irrelevant players test positive on purpose just so he could postpone....

In any event, this could get really messy:

The salary isnt guaranteed for the season, its based on 16 game checks. So a "fully guaranteed 16 mill salary" means if they only play 8 games, the player gets his guaranteed 8 million.
Any guaranteed bonus received is seperate.

NFL teams will forfeit games, player pay if they can’t play due to COVID-19

The NFL has finalized a COVID-19 policy for the 2021 season. It’s putting the onus on teams to get their players vaccinated.

The NFL made an important announcement on Thursday that appears designed to increase the amount of vaccinated NFL players. The league announced that teams which are unable to play games due to COVID-19 outbreaks among unvaccinated players will forfeit games that can’t be rescheduled within the 18-week regular season.

In addition, players on BOTH teams won’t be paid for games that aren’t played as well. So even if it’s the other team’s fault that a game is not being played, players on both teams will be punished. It seems a good bet that peer pressure will work to boost the vaccination rate across the league.

Some key takeaways:
“We do not anticipate adding a 19th week to accommodate games that cannot be rescheduled.”
“If a game is cancelled and cannot be rescheduled within the current 18-week schedule due to a Covid outbreak, neither team’s players will receive their weekly paragraph 5 salary.”
This appears to be Commissioner Roger Goodell pointing a gun at the 32 franchises and saying “get the vaccine, or get some problems.” This should ratchet up the peer pressure in locker rooms with teammates holding each other accountable for their status. At same time, it’s unclear how the specific part about forfeiting player pay would hold up before an arbitrator.
The Colts and the Washington Football Team are the two worst franchises in terms of vaccination rates, with both clubs under 50% as of last week. There are also a cadre of outspoken players, such as Bills wide receiver Cole Beasley, who have publicly stated their aversion to receiving the shots that have been proven safe and effective in guarding against severe COVID-19 symptoms for those vaccinated.

This past week I had to attest to an agreement to either being fully vaccinated or agreeing to wear a mask/maintain 6’ distance when I’m in the office. Failure to comply could result in my termination. Being unvaccinated, not taking the required safety precautions and being the source of an outbreak would likely result in my termination. If common workers have to do it I feel NFL players can do it.

If I were the Commish it would be simple. Two rules...

1. You're a free American, if you don't want the shot don't get it.
2. If you don't get the shot enjoy your 2021 vacation.
