I can't really comment because I was 11 y.o. in 2001...I watched but was far from knowledgeable enough to pretend to truly remember how good they were and give any sort of answer thatakes sense lol...but ill ask this: would this years O combined with '21 D & ST compete with the '01 team?

No.

The GSOT was otherworldly in an era where defense was still allowed to be played. Some days it seemed like the opponents weren’t even fielding a defense and the Rams were up against 11 motionless tackling dummies.

On top of that the ‘01 defense was fantastic, especially coming off a near total revamp. If we had a better head office and coaching staff back then it would have been three consecutive SB wins.

It definitely would be closer, but that ‘01 team would still win I believe. AD sure would wreck a few plans.

In fact, if he played this last weekend, it’s also a different ending…

It's a tragedy that team didn't win the superbowl. They fought so hard as well the whole game to overcome the refs and i thought they had done it when prohel scored the td. I jumped so high i almost punched a hole in the ceiling.

So devastated when the cheats strolled down the field with the refs holding their hand to kick the winning fg.

.
The FIX that was XXXVI. I can still see an unblocked London Fletcher bearing down on sissy boy, who throws the ball into the RAMS bench and, as the players along the sideline gesture for intentional grounding, the zebras, as they had for virtually the entire game, swallowed their whistles to aid Bob WITHCkraft's CHEATING SOB team get their undeserved reward.
And later, Roger Goodell, who as the then COO of the NFL had oversight of the game officials, was rewarded by kraft with his backing for the job of commissioner.
QUID PRO QUO

They said when they ran the new plays Martz drew up specifically for the title game, the Patriots DBs were anticipating the routes. Then of course the refs swallowed their whistles on top of that. And the NFL burned the tapes that proved those fuckers cheated.

A disgusting and shameful era for this league.
Refs let the Pats illegally maul our WRs. The old rule allowed defenders to maintain continuous, unbroken contact within the 5-yard zone, but it went well beyond that.

First drive set the tone as Bruce was tackled by two defenders past 5 yards.
